QUOTE
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recommends that workers should not be exposed to sound levels above 85 decibels in an eight-hour work day, and notes that noise levels of 100 decibels become damaging to the ear after just 15 minutes of exposure.
QUOTE
Riding a motorcycle is a very noisy endeavor.

Sound levels can easily reach over 90dB at only 50mph, and 90dB exceeds the levels at which hearing protection should be used.

Personally, I've tried disposable foam, cheap reusable silicone/plastic earplugs, Plugfones Motorhead and Auritech Bikers.

Disposable foam - the most silent of em all. But a bit too silent. I'm using intercom, barely can hear anything unless it is at full blast. Claimed NNR is 30 dB.
Cheap reusable silicone/plastic - just wore this once or twice, the material kinda chafes the ear.
Plugfones Motorhead - blocks most of the wind noise. But if your helmet is tight around the ears, tends to move the piece out of the ear. Claimed NNR is 25 dB.
Auritech - easy to use, but it seems not as silent as I wanted it to be. I think this could be because of it is a bit small in diameter. Claimed NNR is 24 dB.

So, who else wears earplugs and what brand/model/type do you use?

I have like 3 earplugs. Surefire EP4 and EP7 and ISOLATE from Flare Audio. I would recommend EP7 and ISOLATE really because the foam is effective more compared to flanged EP4.

my ogk ff4 protects my ears quite well even at 230. I tried those sponge earplugs once but it's too silent, quite dangerous.

if I wear open face I usually plug in my cheap in ear earphones which I cut the wires for easy storage inside the jeans coin pocket.

How did they get 90dB at 50mph?

Let me guess.... 2-stroke bike revving at redline in 3nd gear at 50mph with the rider wearing a turtle helmet.

I tried to use earplugs and i dont like it.
i think it is better to use it when your exhaust is really loud, it protect your eardrums.

but as it is toning down the sound, i find it hard to predict the rpm as my bike dont have tachometer and i only measure rpm from my ear lol.

Wind noise mainly.

Even the best of helmets only can reduce at most 10 decibels.
And those helmets would generally suck (in our weather) with less ventilation lol

I find exhaust/rpm sound no problem even with my quiet stock exhaust, maybe I'm already used to it.

nope... didnt use it.

if i ever feel like im going to go bonkers and full throttle i just tuck a bit. it'll reduce the noise coming from the ventilation holes from my helmet.
