Just to inform you, that I have not taken PMP or PRINCE2 in any way. But my company recently did training by EMX Consulting on the Fundamental of Project Management which explains the whole process of PMO and the difference in certificates.


1. PMP is US certified which is primary PM cert for North America, Canada, Middle East and SE Asia. PRINCE2 is UK certified only has influence across Europe and Australia.

- 7500 project hours

- 35 contact hours

3) Both are the same probably the modules differ a bit. PMP is more widely recognised which is highly recommended.

Its 4500 project hours and 36 project months. You have to have proper documentation so that you easily fill up the form to register. For project hours is not the duration of the project, it is based on working hours, so if you work on the project typically 8 hours a day, you accumulate those 8 hours per day until you get 4500 project hours. Project months is the duration of the project, a project can be done in 3 months not taking consideration to hours of work on the project. So you accumulate each project duration.

You do not have to be in a project management role to take PMP. As long as you are involve in the project in any way, though you must state your role and your involvement with the project if I am not mistaken. After submission, they will go to the process of verifying your qualification and everything. Hopefully this clarifies a few things. PMP is not a course, it is a certification.
