i also got charged RM4 bucks for it. Called maxis , they reverted back the charges to me.

I am a bit irritated by maxis lately, they got lots of ECP charges.. 3 months in a row i got some erroneous charges liau.

what amazes me is when Maxis told me that Macro send out their sms RANDOMLY to some maxis numbers.

what do u mean it's not maxis problem?

perhaps you do not know what ECP actually is. Company such as Makro and Maxis will enter an agreement whereby Maxis will collect the fees on Makro's behalf. The profit is normally shared on 50-50 % basis.( if no profit sharing , you think maxis will do charity for collecting money for makro? )

Makro informs maxis of the usage of their services from a particular Maxis user, Maxis will charge that user in their bills.

These charges will then be shared between Maxis and Makro.

Of course, what Makro does is not within maxis control, maxis justs bill us according to the notification given by Makro. IN the event there is a complaint by the user, Maxis will revert back the money to the user.

what irritates me is that I (and i believe many others) have been unscrupulously and unwittingly charged for services we NEVER subscribe. Makro will just send random 'inbox services' to maxis users and charge them.

do u see the problem here?

It's not my problem if Maxis does not collect the MONEY from me on Makro behalf. but in my case, Maxis bills me... and they collect money from ME. and this IS maxis problem, got it? maxis should exercise more discretion in selecting company for their ECP services..

I read in the newspaper last week that these SMS scams are apparently very widespread in malaysia.

MCMC has issued a statement last week asking affected users to submit a report to them for proper action. To date, according to MCMC, they have yet to receive any formal complaints from users.. perhaps BOLA can write to MCMC and see their response on this.

yes, I am pissed with MAxis as well because I do not expect this level of service from MAxis. They should have terminated their sms gateway with Makro when they find out Makro has been cheating lots of maxis customers.. it reflects badly on maxis.

My bills with maxis is around RM300 a month, and I am seriously considering switching to Digi if I still get these nonsense charges from maxis.

There is however, another sensible solution to this sms SPam, one being offering users the chance to block ALL ECP services by keying in a special code. ( not calling maxis end of every month to block every single d*** and harry sms gateway )

By default, all maxis numbers should have ECP disabled. When they want to use ECP services, they would be required to key in certain codes.

I will look through my bill again this month, IF i still get the spam sms charges from other company, I will write to MAxis and MCMC.

I heard Celcom has lots of issues with ECP also, worse, it's not easy to get rebates from celcom.

So far, I have yet to hear from DIgi subsribers complaining of erroneous ECP charges.

AFAIK, maxis at least revert back all the charges to us.

I remember 2 years ago when Citibank starts sending Credit cards to malaysians under the T&C that if you do not write to them to inform of your unwillingness to subcribe their cards, you will be deemed to agree holding the cards!! Bank Negara torpedoed Citibank after it receives complaints from some customers.

I am waiting for my next month's bill. i will write to Thestar, CAP, MCMC, maxis if i still get the charges.

here i was fuming and all, thinking that lying b**** on the phone just went and did nothing, laughing her ass off at my misery.

4th of April:
i went to the maxis outlet and complained about the SMS i received over the weekend together with the FAX i sent in the week before.

the guy there told me that they "CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT" and that "LIMITATION IN THE SYSTEM PREVENTS THEM FROM BARRING ALL ECPS" i then said "WHY IS IT THAT THE SYSTEM HAS NO PROBLEM TAKING MY MONEY TOO?" after much yelling, he told me that he can bar that 36633 number too. and then suggested that i lodge a complain to MCMC cos he can't do much for me and that "I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING TO THEM ABOUT IT". i was thinking wouldn't it be in the interest of maxis to get rid of all these unscrupulous ECPs and retain some form of credibility. but NOOOO.... they will find ways to squeeze the customers for money and partner with these people and HOPE that nobody checks their bills and pay them.
anyway the 36633 sms is operated by a company called MNC wireless berhad. a KLSE listed company. was looking online and their profits has fallen 90% over a period of one year.

so maybe there is hope that these companies might go bust before anything. or perhaps for the same reason, they are resorting to such unsolicited billing to prop up their balance sheet....

Bola, try to write to MCMC, and forward your complaints to Maxis too, and also to Makro.

As I said before, Maxis does gain from this unsolicited charges too because they share part of the bounty.

I have also been charged for ECP (makro) and it appears to be widespread among maxis postpaid users. It will be maxis undoing if customers start to defect from maxis to other operators. Postpaid is maxis core income generator in malaysia, if they dont do something about it fast, I am afraid sooner or later they will have lots of churn rates.

I have looked at my bill this month, I dont see any ECP charges.

BTW, if you want to ask for rebates, just call 123, press 1 and then 6, speak with their customer care in the billing department. They are very helpful and they give out rebates without asking much questions.

I find the maxis staffs at their service centre very unreliable nowadays. I went to Kuching Maxis 2 months ago to complain about the ECP charges (because I thought talking face to face with them will offer me more explaination). I was told by them that

1. I am not the only one receiving the these erroneous ECP charges.
2. She also receives the charges and she just blocked them
3. She could block the sms gateway for makro for me if requested
4 She cannot block all ECP because there are hundreds of ECPs gateway to block
5. She could not reverse the charge
6. There is nothing she could do to stop ECP from charging maxis customers.


MAXIS SUCKS. I do not expect this kind of service by paying RM250 a month.

Maxis better do some damage control. It's kind of tiring that we need to constantly check our bills every month to see whether we had been unwittingly charged for unsolicted services.

I am considering to switch to digi also

call 123 maxis for rebate, they will rebate back for you.

write in to MCMC and cc the letter to maxis and also Macrokiosk.

I know the internal story of this scam. Digi is not affected because they are very strict, once a company is found to spam their customers, their entire line of shortcode will be banned indefinitely.

maxis has their hands on this too. they profit from it indirectly.

I called up 123 in 3 occasions for bill discrepancy and dispute, and in all these occasions maxis rebated back the amount to me, sometimes RM5 or RM10 more just to make me happy. Maybe I am their Tier-1 Customer tongue.gif (auto-debit and amount more than RM200 every month)?

It's useless to get the refund from their customer service centres. I happened to overhear the conversation between maxis CCC with another chinese auntie. THat maxis CCC was basically bluffing all the way. vmad.gif (maxis centre Ipoh) and so lansi lanyong to the auntie. SHe told her the same story - not maxis fault lar ,etc , etc RUBBISH

If I were her, I would have screamed at that CCC and put her at her place. I am very good at making scenes tongue.gif If cannot get rebate at least song. but too bad the auntie dutily paid the amount to Maxis. I still remembered that LCLY maxis CCC.

THis is the weirdest thing I ever encountered with maxis. Spoofing is a well known issues among the telco circles and maxis colluded with other ECP to reap as much profit as possible from customers BEFORE the issues got highlighted by the Customers. How can you tell me Maxis has no hand in this? it's profit sharing between Maxis and ECP. Maxis is collecting the money on ECP behalf. how can maxis not be involved in any of these scams??

THe another sick insider-story is these ECP has multiple codes registered under different companies, but basically owned by same tycoon.

THis is when DIgi ethics is superior to maxis.

Whenever Maxis got a complaint on spoofing, Maxis will only block that ECP code to that particular customer.
Digi , on the other hand, will ban the ECP to its ENTIRE network, not only that, DIgi will also ban the ENTIRE lines of shortcodes owned by te company.

because of stringent enforcement by Digi, there are tycoons who are very pissed with the people in charge in Digi, some of them even giving threats to bash up these people who are just doing their job.

LIke I suspect, this entire spoofing thing is a conspiracy among the telcos.
