who the PHUCK is MacroK SMS?

i did a search on google for MacroK and nothing came up.

i have NEVER signed up for any 5-digit sms ringtone/wallpaper/toto result/weather forecast shit. EVER.

and here i am having a MAXIS bill with an item called EXTERNAL CONTENT PROVIDERS with seven RM3-4 SMSes from MacroK.

i have since called MAXIS to reverse all the charges and BARRED all external content providers.

i believe that maxis and these so-called content providers are working together to fleece their clients, hoping that they dont check their bills. CHECK YOUR BILLS!

yes they have reveresed all the charges.

the irony in all this is that i dont even have GPRS enabled on my phone. how on earth will i be downloading their ringtones and wallpapers?

its phucked up that maxis knowingly bills people for all the shit that macrok does. had i not checked my bills i would be paying for services not rendered. and who knows how long more it would have continued billing me on macrok's behalf?

if maxis is keen on improving their customer service and reputation, they should just sever their ties with macrok and deal ONLY with reputable External Service Providers.

i was rather mad that the the maxis representative was so blaise when i told them to reverse the billing. as if they have been dealing with this all the time. i was going to take the whole corp account to digi or celcom!

to be fair, i dont know what the ESP policies are on other two telcos. perhaps people on digi or celcom can chime in on their own experience with ESPs.

aint it funny how they expect that from their clients yet allow such practices to continue?

I received a lot of spam SMSes. The most recent is from FRIDAY. sweat.gif

They didn't show the 5-digit number.

i didnt get any 5-digit number on the phone either. i DIDNT EVEN GET ANY SMSs from them at all which infuriates me to find RM4 charges on the ESP section on the maxis bill.

maxis/macrok SIMPLY CHARGES people! hoping that the customers dont notice it while they line their pockets with more of YOUR MONEY.

the only advice i can give is: CHECK YOUR BILL. DO NOT TRUST YOUR TELCO.

For postpaid, you guys can still check your bills. For prepaid, it's hard to monitor.

this guy is also on the Hotlink prepaid services from maxis. he seem to have managed to have them blocked. not sure about the charges being reversed.

By default, all maxis numbers should have ECP disabled. When they want to use ECP services, they would be required to key in certain codes.

I will look through my bill again this month, IF i still get the spam sms charges from other company, I will write to MAxis and MCMC.

i do agree with you that the ESP should be disabled by default. its only logical that you arent forced to "CANCEL" or "STOP" a service that you never asked for in the first place. at which you would be charged RM3 to get done!

any ideas on the other telcos and their treatment of MSP? seriously considering moving my account to them

well thats good. i hope that they do the same here.

i dont like being forced to take up services that i didnt ask for.

its like going to a hawker center and some idiot waitress plops down a bowl of laksa and snatches the money you left on the table. even if i didnt order laksa.

i dont like laksa wink.gif

23rd of March
i was looking through the bill and came across the RM22 ECP charges.

24rd of March
i called them and told them that i've been charged for services that i didnt sign up for. the woman on the line told me its for ringtones and wallpaper. subsequently i informed them that i DO NOT have GPRS services. they reversed the charges. and told me that those ECP will be barred. i told her also that i want to have ALL ECP services to be barred from that day forward and not allow it with out MY WRITTEN consent. she told me to fax in my request, which i did as soon as i put down the phone.

10 minutes later, i received a txt from maxis with this msg: YOUR REQUEST TO BAR EXTERNAL CONTENT PROVIDER SERVICES WILL BE ACTIVATED IN24 HOURS. TO UNBAR, PLEASE CALL 123 OR 03-74922123. THANK YOU.

here i was fuming and all, thinking that lying b**** on the phone just went and did nothing, laughing her ass off at my misery.

4th of April:
i went to the maxis outlet and complained about the SMS i received over the weekend together with the FAX i sent in the week before.

the guy there told me that they "CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT" and that "LIMITATION IN THE SYSTEM PREVENTS THEM FROM BARRING ALL ECPS" i then said "WHY IS IT THAT THE SYSTEM HAS NO PROBLEM TAKING MY MONEY TOO?" after much yelling, he told me that he can bar that 36633 number too. and then suggested that i lodge a complain to MCMC cos he can't do much for me and that "I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING TO THEM ABOUT IT". i was thinking wouldn't it be in the interest of maxis to get rid of all these unscrupulous ECPs and retain some form of credibility. but NOOOO.... they will find ways to squeeze the customers for money and partner with these people and HOPE that nobody checks their bills and pay them.

anyway the 36633 sms is operated by a company called MNC wireless berhad. a KLSE listed company. was looking online and their profits has fallen 90% over a period of one year.

so maybe there is hope that these companies might go bust before anything. or perhaps for the same reason, they are resorting to such unsolicited billing to prop up their balance sheet....

your thoughts.

My reply to another forumer.

QUOTE
After my own experience with maxis earlier which i documented on the forum, my mum also encountered the exorbitant ECP charges.

This is the course of action that I took:

First go to the maxis centre and complain. Throw a tantrum. Cause a scene. Make sure everyone there can hear you. Do not be ashamed. do not let them get away with charging you anymore. More often than not, a few of the other people sitting there are also facing the same RM5 SMSes ECP Crap. Gang up.

DEMAND that all the charges are reversed or you are moving your account to another telco. And you would be forwarding this issue to the MCMC.

They at maxis will tell you that they are not responsible for charging you for those ECP SMSes, to which my response would be, "In that case, why should i pay maxis then since it is these ECPs i owe the service to." They would then ask you to contact these ECPs. I asked them to give me their contact numbers. Then and there i made a call to MacroK. It was some automatic voice answering crap. Then i complained to maxis how does one get in contact when nobody picks up. and they would give you a separate number to call. I called and one guy answered. I asked him to reverse all the charges, he said they will stop FUTURE SMSes but cannot reverse the payments. i asked for his name (i cannot remember what his name is now) and said that i would like to quote him in my report to MCMC. He gave me his email and asked me to forward scanned maxis bills to him and he would look into the matter. I NEVER heard from him.

In the end. I still owed MAXIS RM300+ worth of ECP crap. I refused to pay. Maxis terminated her phone services but CONTINUED to charge the RM30 month fees.  Do not be afraid. IGNORE it. They would then send threatening letters from supposed debt collection co. (from fancy legal sounding company names like Ibrahim & co. etc). IGNORE THESE LETTERS. They would continue sending more letters and ALSO call your home phone, other mobile phone contact etc to threaten you to pay. IGNORE. [It is at this point, that you use your discretion to abuse them verbally. I did smile.gif ]

In the end, after months of harassing letters and phone calls, Maxis gave up smile.gif

You should make a copy of your dad's bill, and send it to MCMC, CC to maxis.

ECP preys on the UN-technically savvy people. and the MCMC is useless. My advice is DON'T PAY. Maxis can threaten, but they don't go through with it. Hold your ground.

I posted it here for the benefit of those also facing the same nonchalant response from Maxis.
