Hello everyone. I have a few questions regarding my 06 Myvi. Recently the battery indicator is on constantly by the instrument panel. Idle with AC off is normal but when the AC is on, the idle seems to be erratic. The RPM just drops and suddenly climbs back up erratically. Is this an issue with the alternator as it is slowly breaking down? Starting it is fine because the battery is new. I also think the car is still on its original alternator at mileage is currently at over 178,000 KMs. So if it is the alternator, how much am I expected to pay for a replacement. Thanks in advance.

the easiest way to check the alternator is you start the engine and then unplug the battery cable from the battery, if the engine is still running, it means your alternator is still holding charges.
if the engine dies, then your alternator needs replacing.

Agree with the above.
Or just bring to car electrical workshop to be inspected. Possibly they'd check with multimeter on the fuse/relays, battery and alternator.
Price wouldn't be an issue, most overkill RM500 for a new one. Or if you wanna gamble, used unit should be below RM300.

Start the car and pull out the cable connectin got the battery
if it dies....then is alternator
not to forget to check the belt altogether
it wont be expensive for a new unit.....but a used 1 should do the job fine

Thanks for the replies everyone. Today I went to a electrical specialist and he diagnosed that my alternator is not charging at all. Decided to change to a recond unit.
