Hi all,

Our cafe is going to organize a Dota league very soon, so we need some suggestions and opinions on how to make this event successful. This Dota league is going to be very big and i do hope everyone can help us by giving some useful ideas. icon_question.gif

I got few question here:

1. Map version- 6.41?
since 6.43b is out now..do you guys think is it advisable to use 6.43b?(our league is scheduled start on early June, so there is many time to determine that this version buggy o not, or maybe there will be latest version again by that time)

2.Time limit- no limit?
some of our local tourney got time limit.

3.games rules- i think most of the game rules can copy and paste, but i need opinion from you guys.
*backdoor allowed? izzit mean can attack throne directly?
*item restriction-arcane ring limit to 1? others? Mekansm and Necronomicon also 1?
euls/guinsoos?
*i like the old 584 rules, cannot lure creep, u you guys like this rules?
*ward restriction?

4.game mode- ap? (since most of the tourney is using -ap, normal pick outdated?)

5.if fatal error did occur, how to settle? save game every 30min?

for those who had organize tourney before, can you guys tell us what is the most problem that always encounter.

anyway, suggestion and ideas regarding to succeed this league is welcome. rclxms.gif

Thanks in advanced.

Game Rules

Teams will be divided into two (2) brackets upon picking a number from a box. If ever there are 2 teams joining from the same group or clan, both of them may request to have different brackets.

All matches will be on alternate All Pick mode (-AP Draft)

The team who wins the coin toss will choose only one of the following:
(1) Host the game and gets to choose either Sentinel or Scourge side of the map to start
(2) Be the team that chooses the first hero.

The version that will be used for the duration of the tournament will be DotA Allstars v6.41

Each team will have five (5) up to seven (7) members. Each time can have one (1) or two (2) reserve players.

No pooling, no sharing, no borrowing, no ally control

You cannot transfer healing pot to ally but can heal your ally using your own healing pot

Backdoor is allowed

All items are allowed, however Arcane Ring is only allowed to one hero.

All heroes are allowed

No Exploitation of any known old or new bug discovered during play. Explanations like "exploiting/activating the bug unknowingly", "we had no idea this bug existed" or similar excuses will not be entertained. Participants/Teams are expected to know what these are.

Hope this will help.

the basic rules are almost accpeted by all except maybe some disagreement over the numbers of some items that can be bought by 1 team like necromicon, eul, refresher n so on....

as for 1 of your proposal to not allow creep pulling, i think all teams do it nowadays in matches n therefore oredi accepted as fair gameplay by everyone in community, so therefore no need to implement this rule anymore...

the only big question for your DOTA league is the prize money involved, i think that is the only questions for dota teams nowadays, if ur prize money attractive enuff, watever rules u decide to use will be fine, if ur prize money is little, i dun think they even bother to read ur rules..... just my 2 cents, icon_rolleyes.gif

Organizing a Dota league is never easy. Since it takes quite some time and commitment from participating teams and also the organizer, the prize will be a big consideration whether it will be attractive enough to lure teams around to participate.

I dont think the league can be done in 1 or 2 days, I heard before there's a cc that planned to do a league tournament and the duration is between 2 to 3 months. Not all teams can dedicate their time into long term tournament.

I believe that if your prizes is attractive enough, then anything regarding the rules of the tournament is no big deal. Teams participating can either take it or leave it, if you can't agree with the organizer rules, just dont join and wait until there's some tournament that suits you. tongue.gif

Well...its true..organizing a Dota league is never easy, had to think from many view and aspect.

regarding the league length, we hope can complete in one and half month time, so that other branches can start as well.. about the league format, our initial planning is to divide all team into few groups(depend on participant team, each group about 9 teams), each team will face 2-3 matches every week, detail will be covered up once everything is confirm.

Btw, izzit if prize attractive enough, many team will participate? I dont think so, guess time always come 1st.

Well..it just my opinion, please voice out if you disagree..

You cant really put it that way. You see, if you put any rules you want, it can't sync with other tourneys. and teams will have tough time training to different set of rules. i'm sure everyone knows the difference of pumping and non-pump, backdoor or non-backdoor, no limit to certain items, normal pick/-apdraft, 60minutes/90minutes/fullgame(make loadsa difference in hero picking too), et cetera.

Better have a standardize set of rules for all tourney rather than having 10 set of rules for 10 tourneys.

But then again, if you're organizing a bigass tourney will five figures prizemoney, you can always be the one to set the standard rules for all tourney. Get what i mean?

Cheers. thumbup.gif

Last year GxLeague succeed, but its based in SG. Few Malaysia participated and went there for the grand final held in Sentosa. You can refer to their league system though. But GxLeague already removed Dota from their game list for this season. cry.gif

GxLeague is partial online and partial LAN. The teams played online and the top 16 teams will qualify for the play off in SG.
