I'd want to borrow and invest., Do you guys have any brokerage you recommend?
*
U have to shop around for the best share margin financing package. Usually banks offer better package than brokers. You can get a facility from a different bank and trade with another broker (as long it's on their panel).

sorry. Need to drag you to another thread as the discussion was moving away from SREITs.

back to what you were saying, so basically it's not so nice to hold SGD since MAS could easily devalue it?? If they do, my current position in SGD would lose value. sad.gif
and MAS is reason why SGD has strengthen against MYR?
*
If u compare SGD n HKD.

HKD is fixed vs the USD within a narrow fixed band of HKD7. 75 to HKD7. 85. The HKMA defends this band come what may (so far).

SGD is similar in a way that there is a band that they defend, but this band is based on a basket of currencies (n not just USD) and they are more flexible in adjusting the band upwards or downwards based on economic conditions. This review is every 6 months. Since they don't intervene in interest rate, this is their main monetary policy.

However, so far they are pretty cautious in weakening the currency too much due to being the regional financial center and worry about imported inflation. But u can see the impact, their economy is pretty sluggish more so than Malaysia in fact.

so, we can safely say that SGD will not devalue too much against USD due to them being a financial centre?
*
Reasonable assumption I think. SGD strenght and stability is very important to Singapore.

Think of the impact of of a big devaluation on the rich Chinese, Indonesians and Malaysians who have bank accounts in Singapore. And the Lowyat Reit holders.. 😆

Plus Singapore import nearly all their basic stuff. A big devaluation will result in high inflation for the populace.

Online cash account mean saving account like Maybank2U?
*
No, I mean the trading account is a cash upfront account. When u open a CDS account u get a trading account. The CDS account is where your shares are kept. The trading account allows u to trade. Make sure the trading account is online and cash upfront, meaning u trade with money already deposited. This is the cheapest brokerage. Unless of course u are active trader than can consider other trading accounts.

anybody using m+ cash account? just wondering why is there a discrepancy betweentrust account amount and available trading amount although no transaction pending.
*
Is it big difference? For cash accounts, Trading limit will always be a bit less than trust account amount to take into account trading fees.

and also I'm still learning, hope to learn from the sifu here icon_rolleyes.gif

So I've set aside a small amount of funds for trading, since the FD rate are pretty shitty now, so I was thinking why not invest in stock market since some of the stocks are at their all time low now due to certain factors like scandals & disasters.  If stock price increase after the crisis then good la, better return than FD, if drop further, nvm then, will treat it as just bad luck, some unexpected expenses like expensive car repairs tongue.gif and hold it until it rebound, hopefully.

Also about pennyshares, will a hit & run tactic sustainable for long term?
example I targeted a high vol pennyshare, then just let go when price increases just by 0.005, to make a tiny profit, and rinse & repeat
since it's pennyshare, it won't drop too much or too drastically, and if got burned, also won't be too hurtful... this tactic ok? hmm.gif

There are many ways to trade/invest.

My suggestion is not to follow the herd.

Under current market, find a good company with decent management which stock price has been battered/not appreciated in the current cycle and wait it out. 1-2 years horizon.

Avoid companies run by crooks or dubious characters.

well, I've tried, yes it's long queue and hard to buy or sell, but still possible if you're persistent
managed to buy/sell one this week at 1 sen profit icon_rolleyes.gif

anyway, am still learning and getting a feel on how's the market moving, especially on penny shares
since my investment is small, i don't expect a huge return, or will get hurt badly as well

don't dare to touch those big stocks yet, first budget doesn't allow, second doesn't have the experience yet tongue.gif

It's your money and your time. U can do whatever u like and figure out the best way to maximize that. After one year, u can tell us back if u manage to beat FD rates.

Watch out also for transaction costs though.

Hi all, why maybank need bank statement for opening CDS account? i have been using other bank and my maybank saving account has been inactive and very little money with this account. this will affect my application or not ?

what is e-dividen form and 2 specimen signature card ?

Individual account

    CDS account opening form
    E-dividend form
    2 specimen signature card
    3 copies of NRIC
2 copies of savings account passbook (The first page with name)/ original bank statement (if printed from website, please get bank officer to certify true copy)
*
I think when you open any broking account you need to give bank account statement. But I think you don't need a Maybank bank statement to open a Maybank broking account.

E-dividend is good. Dividends from companies get paid direct to your bank account.

Specimen signature is for your CDS account with Bursa Depository. So, say one day, u want to transfer your shares out from Maybank to another broker or to pass to your children, u need to sign a transfer form n they will check that.

so basically, forced to let go. Don't really have a choice right?

that's why I don't understand how the other guy still holds some shares of a privatised company.
*
It will depend on the type of delisting. If it's an acquisition and privatisation, there is usually a mandatory acquisition. However, if the delisting say because of say PN17 then there is no force acquisition and the investor ends up with unlisted shares (which are usually of no value).
