KLCI now a bit bullish.. Or more like a calf.. 😆 Let see how the closing is like. Hopefully can breach 1600 level before new year.

what are the taxes on ADR in the US stock market??

Is it considered US-domiciled or foreign domiciled?
*
I believe its considered like a US domiciled security for WHT purpose. But u hv to check.

I see, your timing is good.

I'll likely make some changes in my portfolio, including selling defensives like gold stocks, this month.

We'll have to see who's the Democratic nominee. If it's Bloomberg or Biden, market should be bullish. The opposite if it's Warren or Sanders.
*
Sorry I just noticed this.. What gold stocks do u have? Gold mining stocks? Or gold etf?

Im also trimming down more on defensive this month, in my case, govt bonds.

how does a warrant work again? I forgot.

I got some free warrant. It has an exercise price X and a warrant price Y.
If I exercise the warrant, meaning I buy more of the stock at the exercise price X?
If I sell the warrant, they are sold at the warrant price Y?

If C is the current price, minus exercise price X, is less than the warrant price Y, then it makes no sense to exercise it right?
*
Sounds about right. You make more money by selling warrant Y.

I never bothered about exercising warrants. Warrants has always been for short term trades only. Not a buy n hold thing.

Thanks. I'll wait for another 6 months and see if the C - X will be more than Y in the future.

edit: eh, but the warrant price Y also changes, doesn't it?
*
Warrant value has time value and intrinsic value. Time value drops to 0 at maturity. The longer u hold a warrant the less valuable it will be

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 4 more trading days to go before the year ends.

2019 is another sad year for Bursa with FBMKLCI down at - 5.11% YTD at Christmas eve. Compare this with HSI which was up 7.81%, even with trade war and riots. Don't even compare with US market.

Let's hope, 2020 will be a better year for the local equity market. Remember that past performance is not a guarantee of future performance!

I also exited my silver SLV too early.  doh.gif

by the way, HKSE's 2800 tracker fund and 2833 HSI are the same right? I mean, buy whichever doesn't matter, right?
*
Same HSI index, just different fund managers. Both are OK.

Personally, I prefer HSCEI than HSI though.

ETFs of gold and silver miners. Anyway, I already exited when gold/silver rallied on Dec 23 - put the $ into several ETFs covering AI, robotics, 5G etc.
*
I normally wouldn't regard gold n silver miners as "defensive". 😆

But I'm suprised that gold is still strong now.

What's the difference between NASDAQ-100 Index and S&P Technology Select Sector Index?
for example, QQQ vs XLK.

Companies like Amazon and Facebook are in Nasdaq100 but not in S&P Tech select? How come?
thanks!
*
QQQ is the largest 100 companies on nasdaq regardless of industry sector.

Im not familiar with XLK, but I guess Amazon n Facebook are probably under Consumer Discretionary sector (Amazon) and media/communications sector (Facebook) rather than technology.

hi all sifus, not sure if this is the right place to ask. i have a stock i invest few years ago and now the stock worth 300k. i would like to know if i sell all now, do i need to pay tax ? and is there a best way (transfer the stock to other platform etc?) to sell it with minimum fees (transaction, brokerage , etc)? I'm using maybank nominee cash account.

thanks.
*
No tax, we have no capital gains for stocks.

I don't know how much is the brokerage for maybank nominee but if you want to, you can open an account with another IB and transfer the shares there. CDS Transfer fee is RM10.

Haiih.. KLCI can't even close above 1600 for the year.

This is tougher market than even 2015/16.

So sad Malaysia Baru.

It will be better in 5 to 10 years, assuming there's no change in government.

If there is, then I think it will be a dark future.

GE is in 2023. If the PH can't fix the economy by this year, they won't last past 2023. And the stock market is a reflection of the economy.

Hi guys!

I've been using Maybank trade since 2017 but now I wanted to switch to a different brokerage account with lower fee. I've shortlisted both Rakuten and M+. Rakuten minimum fee is RM9 and M+ is RM8.

Can you guys suggest which platform is good? With good customer support and good mobile apps (interactive charts and news)?

Currently Rakuten got promo with HelloGold, makes me want to open the account there. But with RM1 higher fee.
*
I thought Maybank also now offer lower brokerage for online cash upfront trades? Maybe u check with them n change your account?

Between Rakuten and M+. For cash upfront: Go M+ for lower brokerage and direct CDS. Rakuten the only advantage are online KYC and pretty fast FPX payment. The rewards are just fluff to me.

Well Rakuten also does not charge fees on corporate actions, I suppose that is a plus?
*
If u use direct CDS also no fees. Rakuten is nominee structure but they waive the normal fees. So it's not a plus, just less negative.

hi, planning to invest in stocks. can I know what's is best buy and best sell? can't understand what I found online.
*
Best buy is the highest price level that someone puts in to buy the stock, that hasn't been matched.

Best sell is the lowest price someone puts in to sell the stock, that hasn't been matched.

So, if you want buy the stock, you can put the order at the best sell and it will get matched. Trade done.

Or, you can put buy order at lower price. Here, no trade is done yet, you wait for someone to hit you/sell to you. N If your buy order is the highest price, then it will become the best buy price. N you wait.

just wanna ask, for e-ipo applications, if successful what are the charges involved?

stamp fees?
clearing fees?
platform fees?
*
No stamp and clearing fee for the IPO. Only applicable when you sell. Platform fee should be, minimal. I think Maybank charges RM1.
