as a council member, this issue is directly under my turf. there are a few things i cant comment here until we resort this thing out. but let me point a few things to clarify the issue:

i. LAM through the council of accreditation and architecture education (CAAEM) have approved UNITAR to run an architecture course.

ii. UNITAR ran it for 2-3 semesters, taking a few batches of students.

iii. UNITAR programmes came under review by their board of directors (or something), and decided some of the programmes are not feasible to run. one of it is the architecture programme.

currently CAAEM is advising the architecture school, the students and the parents on the possibilities, which i cannot discuss here yet.

Why stop it suddenly? Why not just stop new intakes, let the current students grad first even if it may take additional 2-3 years before they totally close the course down?

Kesian liao them. Money get refund ok, but time wasted nobody can replace

it's unsustainable, i guess. architecture has one of the smallest lecturer:student ratio. the board set the maximum of 1:15. compare this to most other courses that has 1:100 ratio, it's very hard to break even.

Its funny, as a student, they want to study courses that has least people go into to avoid competition in the crowded job marketplace, like IT is so crowded due to surplus of graduates and it drives the salary down.

But then courses that has little enrolment has to be shut down....

Zzz.. dont be surprise laa..
Even UM is charging an arm and a leg for their courses...
90k per pax just for engineering just to keep the course afloat...
not enough students = wont break even = No profit
*
UM? rm90k per person?

this has always been the issue with our programme. private schools struggle to start because of the high requirements set by the board. there were other schools that had such trouble before, but it didnt get much publicity. i guess this is UNITAR, i more recognized name in the private education scene.

Back when I enroll short period in Management (entrepreneurship) at the KL campus, the classes were running with only 5 students, include me. I didn't like the vibe and the environment in the class.

And the class were held in KL campus, sometimes were canceled upon on arrival. Sucks to travel there to make it in time for 9am course. I couldn't cope to continue it and decide to drop out and pursue from other Uni.

I was considered to be the 2nd batch of this newly course during that time. First batch were granted full scholarships. No idea why.
