I'm planning to buy a digicam soon, but I have no connection with any camera shops.

Anyone can recommend me a trust worthy shop? If can, price cheaper too. tongue.gif

i've bought cameras from Fotokem and Foto Shangri-la smile.gif both serviced my purchase well.

once from Fotokem, twice from FSL. my 350D bought from a forummer who runs a camera shop in Penang (parcel delivered via DHL.)

so far so good. smile.gif

seriously i personally don't see shops as an issue. after you buy, that's it. you wouldn't even have to bother about them until something goes wrong.

I brought my camera at Boeing too.. their price is very low( not included any gift) but i can get the memory, pouch and tripod other place where i think it's cheaper and better. And their service is quite good, when i ask for a DSLR test (other time) they show me the function and let me play with it. I've been to some shop that treat me as "poor people".

I got my Sony flash from Boeing, and I think their service is quite ok too. No problem testing it for me and let me play with it too. Some more the model I asked to see they don't have stock in the shop so they asked someone to get it for me - just to see (because I haven't confirmed I wanted to buy yet). The price is quite competitive too.

No wor... I am from Kota Kinabalu leh. How to get their price list. But I can tell you I bought my HVL-F56AM Sony flash from them for RM1250nett. Someone was telling me they can get it for even lower than that (RM1199) but not sure if it was from Boeing or not. So their price is quite good. Some more service also ok. Can give them a try if you want...

Boeing is rubbish.... i went to a lot of the camera shops at Berjaya, and sg wang... the most expensive is boeing. Either you guys were there long time ago, or they've somehow turned rubbish over night

indeed. this is the same for EVERY shop.

even if you go to shops like Bintang Maju or other shops, same - you HAVE to ask. because really la, no one so free to change the price label every time there's a price change.

if the person really interested, he/she will ask.

Agreed. When I bought my flash in Boeing, the listed price was RM1650.00 because that was the price Sony set (I think...) but when I asked them about it, they said they will let me have it RM1250.00. Don't know about you guys but I think RM400.00 is a lot of difference. At least to me lah.

Hmm...maybe i am lucky, and the sales person there is very friendly to me.

They treat me nicely and let me try the D40 & D80, help me compare the pro and cons between these 2 camera. List out the all the freebies and the price patiently for me.

At the end, I end up didn't buy anything, caused she said that D40x is coming out soon, just wait for the D40x, and do a final comparison between D40, D40x and D80.

Hmm....Boe-ing.

When u wanna buy petty things like spare batteries, they dont seem to be interested in doing business.

Perhaps, that's where the difference is.

I also bought my camera from Boeing, I had good experience, but that was 4 years ago. Perhaps things had changed.

Another shop I used to visit is Selangor Photography at Pertama Complex. Many years ago I bought lens and filters from them. The price was great. And that was 5 years ago... smile.gif Perhaps someone here could verify if their (Selangor Photography) price remain to be the lowest...

Vincent, what gave you such a bad experience? I'm sure a lot of people here would like to take note on that.

I was at Boeing last two weeks looking for Sony flash. At Sg.Wang there... there are a few branches. My experience was surprisingly good. I was looking for the F56AM flash (Sony price RM1650)... and they quoted quite cheap, the problem is that no stock. But the salesperson (female) was quite friendly and she even bother to chit-chat about the recent Sony's surge of flash stock, my gears (I brought my camera that time). She even tried to contact other stores asking if they have stock for that flash. Most other shop will not bother to entertain Sony user... haih.

I went to what shop again... It wasn't Tarita nor Boeing... I was asking about Sony flash the aunty straight away said "'dont have!" ... sounds rude.

Dunno about you guys but I was in Boeing less than a month ago. Found the service ok and price is ok too. Got myself the SAL18250 for RM1850 there. Tarita quoted RM1900 for the lens.

I just said I want to see the lens and they bought it from the other shop I guess. Let me play play with it and test on my cam. The time didn't even confirm wanna buy the lens but they let me play play with it for some 15 minutes. Then I ask them what best price they can offer and they quote me RM1850. Salesperson is a guy.

I bought my D300 from Boeing. Got it for very good price. I think the service quality depend on how busy the shop is (and they normally have quite a lot of crowd).

To get good prices, I suggest you ask around to know what the market price is. I normally just check on Shashinki first. Then go to Boeing and quote a price slightly lower. More often than not you should be able to get a good price. Also, I think you normally can get very good prices if you speak to the lady boss and if you go there by recommendation from one of their current customers.

Added on May 28, 2008, 1:06 pmOh yeah, Fotoken prices always higher .. everywhere I go is the same. Whether in Berjaya Times Square, Sunway Pyramid, etc ...

lol, maybe they are bad in customer service, but to me they are just being straight forward. if you want the best of the best service then go to any canon shop or pro centre, there u'll get your full attention plus 200% friendly customer service with just 20% hike up of the street price. give or take, lol

lol, maybe they are bad in customer service, but to me they are just being straight forward. if you want the best of the best service then go to any canon shop or pro centre, there u'll get your full attention plus 200% friendly customer service with just 20% hike up of the street price. give or take, lol
how to say, she got the bossy look on her, definitely not those kind looking face laugh.gif

haha, just to share with u another conversation

ok fine i just walk away

another time with lady boss

me: do u have 400D kitlens
lady boss: ya RM 3xxx ( expensive than outside by RM 300, but i keep quiet)
me: wat does it come with ? any package? CF ? tripod ?
lady boss: wat do u wan? no lar, this is 400D kitlens only. Anything else you want you buy la. Where got free.
me: ok thanks bye

well this is 'too straight' forward

Got my dslr from Boeing. Not a problem. But I think it also depends on which of their shop you go to.
Try to go to the one near the magazine shop. Look for Alde.
Btw, the garang lady boss also there tongue.gif
Look garang only lah, but if are really buying something, she talks a lot also tongue.gif

I won't say they have the best prices but usually, you can ask them to throw in some other items like filter or bag, etc for the same price they quoted you.

oh u think i was joking,

well i did buy all the 3 items i requested, but not from there

there was once they threat me seriously,

when i went in with 3 guys holding 70-200 f2.8 the other 2 using canon, i'm using sigma with our big lowepro backpack, just finish shooting an event.

and i get 1st class treatment smile.gif u get wat i mean, everything also can at that time.

so it's sort of proven that she only kiss the @ss of 'potential' customer

The FotoEdar aunty is friendly. But that's not technically in Sg. Wang. Low Yat camera shops also quite layan wan.

It is said that Boeing prices follow the mood of the boss. Her son is cool though. Dunno if I'm lucky but everytime I go there she's usually smiling and friendly. But then, I don't have a credit card...

the boeing i went to is the one beside magazine shop on ground floor. ok lah, the lady boss has a wart on her nose but cannot blame nature lah. i feel quite bad when u guys call her ugly.

anyway, i think to get good pricing at boeing, u have to know the best prices around first. so when u go there, u just tell her, this shop selling how much, and see whether she can sell cheaper or not. i used that approach and got very good pricing.

but as u know lah, they are doing business what ... if customer ask for price sure they won't give u the lowest price right away. must learn to negotiate also lah.

HAHHA! did that just now. The saleperson like selling the camera to my dad. nod.gif
i asked him why he would recommend the 400D over the 450D then suddenly he start talking non-stop for about 10 minutes to my dad why.
And the best part is, not only did we not purchase the camera, after we left the shop i asked my dad if he understood anything the saleman was saying. My dad casually replied, "nope." hHHAH laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
Funny thing is, the last time i went to that shop, ask them whether i can see the camera, they said no. then when i bring my dad, everything also can. open lens box for u, open camera box for u, let u test, let u play till kaokao. then i said tq and left. icon_idea.gif

Hi ppl. Called boeing Sg. Wang up just now, thanx to their phone number posted above by crazyconsumer. Quoted me the price for Nikon D40 kit = RM1599, comes with bag/tripod/1GB card/filter..which is not bad la since I went to Fotokem Kajang and their price for the same D40 kit was RM18++, but with 2GB card and no filter, I think. But Boeing's service over the phone was a bit malas2 one, but their price ok la. The girl, when I asked what goodies comes with the camera, she said "2gb tripod filter bag" wothout any pause in between words! ahahahaha. so malas one.

Can give me the phone number for Tarita?

Update: Called tarita just now, RM1590 for the D40 kit, c/w 2gb card and bag, but no filter or tripod. if want tripod and filter, add RM100. Service over the phone quite good. Talked to Julia.

Bought my D80 from Boeing yesterday. I believe the shop it the opposite to an electrical/electronic appliances shop. And it is nearby to 'Junsaito' tailor shop.

Was attended by a specky guy. Was very nice. He explained and let me play with the cameras. As a matter of fact, I've surveyed for D80 kitlens prices from several shops and I found that Boeing quoted the lowest price.

So, I bought from there. The salesman was friendly and warm.

Sounds like some gangster that graduated from selling VCDs in Jln Petaling to selling camera equipment.

I wouldn't want to deal with him especially when I am having stomach upsets... might just follow me to the toilet cubicle.

you expensive accessories they sell to u ? interesting smile.gif

i have been there, brought flash, batteries, lenses from them all at prices cheaper than Boeing. Better service, and they do sometimes try to persuade you to buy more, but that is so typical of a salesman. You just sit down, and tell them what you want, and they'll bring it to you to test thumbup.gif

On the contrary, I got the cheapest price in Tarita.
You gotta be patient and bargain. Also, don't show that you're so eager to buy the item.
Me and my dad sat down in Tarita for a good 40 minutes slowly talking and testing the product and slowly bargaining until the salesperson finally gave in to our price. biggrin.gif
Just to prove that this method works, a fellow LYN member PM'd me and asked me where I got my DSLR, I told him Tarita. And guess what, he got it for a good RM300 more expensive than I did, with exactly the same items as me. smile.gif

Why so much different? I also dont know. The Sales person i spoke to seems cant make decision and have to ask around. But yesterday Sales person, can make decision immediately. May be he is the boss or senior staff?

Another possibility is...may be they are going to sell me demo unit or some sort? No idea.....

Lumix LX3 Ori battery?
I've ask around (MyKamera.com at Time square and Bintang Maju at LowYat).
Both shop also selling bout RM 155-RM 165....

Wonder why it is so expensive...

Well, all these sales people live on commissions. Salary alone is not enough.
At Pertama, they quoted me RM1,480.00 for the Lx3 alone, and that too with
the boss knowing me.
So i told him not now, maybe in 2 weeks time.
So this tells you to Trust No One, not even the Pretty Girls!.

Well the next time he follows, you go to that shop, pick up your H/P and pretend
to call a Balai and speak to some Sergeant with a serious tone, but make sure you look mature
enough!..hehe.. flex.gif
This will make him think twice

hey guys,

just read all the posts regarding the shops in SG Wang. Yeah was quite hesitant to buy from the stores
there when I visited yesterday, considering that I'm still a noob in bargaining.

I need some recommendation on where i can get sigma or tokina lens for canon mount. Anyone know where
I can get a good deal on the following items around KL or PJ area.

1. Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX 11-16mm F2.8 Ultra Wide Angle Lens (for Canon EOS)
or
2. Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens (Canon EOS)

3. Canon 580EX II Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash

I'm kind of stuck between the Tokina and Sigma, so feel free to give ur expert opinion.

Would appreciate any help I can get.

Roy from Tarita quoted me Tokina 12-24mm F4, RM1550 which is cheaper than International Camera Service Centre (RM1680), YL Pudu (Rm1760), Miscrosonic (RM1730).

I also asked for Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX 11-16mm F2.8 Ultra Wide Angle Lens (for Canon EOS) and Tarita quoted RM2000. Where May from Photo Selangor gave me RM2300+. This lady from Photo Selangor I think she has a fate smile always, said: ' Just swipe with your credit card la, else why you applied it?' I really want to knock her head...lol

So, Tarita is considered an good option for Tokina Lens.

Advice: Do you research on price before bargain with sales person. At least you know they're ready to chop your head down. tongue.gif

Try avoid buying accesorries in Tarita. Last time they also offered me a normal uv filter for RM160+, try to get filter at YL camera in Plaza Pudu, they got alot of stuff there. If getting normal package then can consider Tarita. I bought my a200 there.
