Is it using in high rise apartment can cause the signal not stable? I live at floor 17.lol

my signal

RSSI (dBm): -73
RSRP (dBm): -97
RSRQ (dB): -11

Using e5172 and external antenna some more.

I also use the same model. More specifically E5172s-515 which only supports LTE band 2, 5 and 7. Maxis/Celcom/Digi have LTE on band 3 and 7 (correct me if I'm wrong). Webe uses band 5.

And yup digi on this router sucks. Maximum speed would be 3-4 mbps, but it's very unstable. Frequent disconnection. And usually at night, like less than 1mbps. It's not a problem with digi line as when I try putting the sim in my phone which supports both band 3 and 7, the speed is consistently between 10mbps to 20mbps, not the fastest but still pretty decent.

I guess in some areas, digi LTE using band 7 is quite bad. I can't wait for my E5176s-22a to arrive. The weird thing is celcom sim in my E5162 router is very fast. Like at least 15mbps.

e5186s-22a
e5186s-61a

what the different btw these 2?
how to choose?
*
Go for 22a, more support carrier aggregation. ie B3 + B7, B3 + B3, B7 + B7. Can't remember the exact combinations. 61a has more limited carrier aggregation pairs.

Huawei E5186s-22a: Band 1/3/7/8/20/38
Huawei E5186s-61a: Band 3/7/28/40

Both support band 3 and 7 which are the LTE bands utilised by Maxis/Digi/Celcom/U Mobile. Yes 4G uses band 38 and 40, while Webe uses band 5, 38 and 40. So I guess, 22a is more future-proof that 61-a. Other than that, I don't think the two of them have much differences.

The info from E5186s-61a is different and says CA mode is No.
I am getting ~ 10 to 15 mbps max with 4 bars.
Thinking of changing it with 22a. Thanks.

Why don't u try locking it to band 3 first? In my place, band 3 is faster than band 7.

Just got my E5186s-22a from Taobao, I think LTE-A is overated. Carrier aggregation (Band 3 + Band 7) is slower than just band 3.

1. Band 3, Download: 32Mbps, Upload: 17Mbps, ping: 42ms
2. Band 7, Download: 2Mbps, Upload: 1Kbs, ping: 218ms
3. Band 3+7, Download: 3Mbps, Upload: 350Kbs, ping: 124ms

I honestly quite regret buying this modem. It cost RM550 at Taobao. I don't think we really need LTE CAT 6 router. LTE CAT 4 with ability to lock band 3 would be sufficient. And that too would be cheaper than CAT 6 router. Just my 2 cents. No need to buy E5186s-22a guys. It's future proof, but it would always be cheaper in the future, right?

May I know how long it takes for the goods to reach you from TaoBao?

Thank you.

Ordered on 13 may, got it on 25 may. Ie about 7 working days. Usually it only takes about 4-5 working days but there were some mistakes with my shipping. Took a while for me to rectify it, purely using Google Translate. smile.gif

Hey guys, I've just got my Huawei E5186s-22a just now. Anything I should know about ? Any settings, tips ? Thanks guys biggrin.gif

Install E5186 toolbox here http://www.mediafire.com/file/1yz26m6u8gfl...latest_v0.9.zip

Then after that, you can to try to experiment between B3, B7 or B3+B7 (LTE-A). See which one is fastest. At my place, and I think some other people on this forum as well, B3 is faster and more stable, so I just lock my router to B3. biggrin.gif

hi all, I have a few questions hopefully someone can clear me out.

I see a lot of people sharing huawei router in this thread, do I really need one? or can I just grab a tp-link from nearby store? or jus terther using my spare handphone? Is there any significant difference between them? only me and my wife will be using the internet. she most likely only scrolling facebook and watching drama from youtube and such. And i'm mostly for gaming at night.

Thanks a lot.

I think you'd better buy a prepaid sim and test on your phone first. I'm using Huawei e5186 (CAT 6), but I don't think it's necessary as in some areas, a decent CAT 4 router would be sufficient. Unless your area has super fast Digi LTE-A, just get TP Link MR 6400/MR3220, Huawei B310 or Dlink DWR-921 . In many areas, including mine, single band B3 is faster than LTE-A. So Tethering using phone is not stable, with frequent disconnection and weak WiFi.

*
Don't bother with this free two months iflix. Just subscribe iflix directly for one year at only RM 29, it's promotion during this ramadhan. That's like RM 2 per month, no brainer choice really. smile.gif

Was browsing iflix and looks like they got complete X-Files remastered in HD
I might subscribe a year directly to marathon all episodes
Only annoying thing is the big ass iflix logo on the top right
How to know if you're watching in HD?
With netflix you got these shortcut keys to see bitrate stream quality, I don't see any quality selection on iflix

Terraium hd quality is acceptable I guess, might need to install this too on my amazon firestick
Thanks for the suggestion
*
I don't know if it's possible to choose the video quality on iflix or netflix. I watch all of them on my TV via chromecast, so no logo etc. The quality just auto-adjusts, depending on the network speed. By the way, even the SD videos on iFlix are pretty decent IMHO. Terrarium has many selections, 1080p, 720p, 420p. The only drawback is the app is not as smooth. Netflix is the best in that sense, followed by iFlix.

Just use eBay if taobao is too difficult for you to navigate with Google translate.

Ditto, Google translate is your best friend. I can't read a single Chinese word as well but has bought from Taobao three times now. Worth the effort. IMHO, Howtotao.com is a good guide to follow. There's even a thread in lowyat kopitiam for taobao related stuff. Go experiment. smile.gif

Plan to use i150. But my area only normal 4G which is around 10mbps. Sometimes 20mbps. Which modem router to use?

Edited: D-Link DWR-921 (Internet Only) - CAT4 150mbps - 2.4ghz wifi

Saw this modem in local pc shop going for RM4xx. Worth it?
*
That's a perfectly decent router. Or Huawei B310 or TP Link MR6400. Any cat 4 routers which support band 3 and 7 LTE would be sufficient.

U don't have to buy E5186. I'm using it but I reckon it's overkill and way too expensive. Hard to buy anyway

Whoa. Digi is superb in some rural areas, I suppose. My kampung in the east coast is very hulu, and far from the cities. But the speed is still consistently between 30-40mbs and the LTE coverage is robust. Maxis/Celcom only have HSDPA with less than 1mbps speed. And u mobile even slower. This is better than my home in KL which is a stone throw away from midvalley, as typically the speed is less than 5mbps. T_T

You can't even spell tethering and you don't even understand the expression "no brainer". Means your education is not too high and you didn't learn much etiquette. That's why I say data abuser by way of huge data usage should be banned.
*
You don't have to put your superiority complex hat on. Just because of some typos, so you think you're better than @kmcheah?

There's no black and white T&C limiting the usage on Infinite 150. So for those using terabytes of Internet, how can you say you abide by the rules but they don't?

I only use 40GB per month. But I think it's the rights for those who want to use whatever amount of data that they want, sharing with family or whatever, so long as it is allowed by the network?

Who do you think you are? CEO of Digi? They come out with this infinite plan, they must have thought of all the repercussions that could come of it. If their network is congested, it's partially their fault. Nobody forced them to offer unlimited quota, but they did.
