Hi guys I've registered with Rakuten 2 years back and have minimal stocks in it.

Now that I'm planning to divert more of my portfolio to dividend stocks, I plan to apply for HLE broking - prefer a direct account vs. nominal.

Do I actually own a CDS account if I only traded with Rakuten before this, and where can I find the CDS account number in Rakuten?

Thanks.

mplusonline.com is pretty great. It is fast like rakuten but tuck ur shares under direct CDS account.

Is there anywhere saying our money deposited into trust account is insured or safe from rakutentrade/kenanga in case of insolvency? Can't seem to find it in FAQ.

Hello! Can trade ETF via rakuten?
*
Can, but only ETFs listed on KLSE, except tradeplus Gold ETF.

QUOTE(ehwee @ Jan 14 2021, 05:58 PM)
no, only local stocks in KLCE
*
There are ETFs listed on KLSE.

Also why are people liking this erroneous reply?

Etf in the klse is trading like stocks which is different from stashaway, wahed and other etf providers.

If really means proper etf, I think can opt for Stashaway instead of stocks like etf in klse, just sharing no harm, bro.
*
ETF literally means Exchange Traded Fund. It's meant to be traded like stocks, bonds, REITs on exchange.

The ETFs on KLSE are still ETFs, they just have very small assets under management, with some of them having higher expense ratio than advertised, or higher spread than usual.

You could have said "If you are looking for US ETF, then you need to use roboadvisors or foreign brokers.", instead of outright saying you can't trade ETF with Rakuten.

"sharing no harm" - If you share incorrect information, then it's harmful, period.

This is what I try to say, great you have better explanation than me.

BTW, do you trade etf in klce? How is it compared to trade etf with etoro or just invest in stashaway, would love to hear your thoughts, thanks first.

As if buy etf at klce through rakuten or other broker have to bear higher brokerage costs compared to roboadvisor like stashaway which charge much lower fee.

I hold tradeplus gold ETF and used to trade malaysia bond ETF.

Stashaway does not trade KLSE ETFs, they do use SGX ETF in SG however.

Stashaway is NOT cheap if you have an itch for very specific exposure and hold for long term, there is an ongoing 0.8% management fee on top of withholding taxes and ETF fees. It’s however easy and affordable for ikan bilis. But once your assets exceed 6 figures, maybe it’s time to DIY through IBKR, Tiger, TD Ameritrade.

I repeat again, coz you still blur:

StashAway trades ETFs listed on NYSE and NASDAQ in US, mainly for US.
Rakuten can trade ETFs listed on KLSE, mainly for exposure to Malaysia.
StashAway does not touch KLSE ETF, Rakuten does not touch US listed ETFs!!

Hi, I planning to open an account. Anything i should take note of. Any recommendation or tips?
*
Check if Rakuten's nominee CDS account is good for you. Otherwise just open a normal direct CDS brokerage account elsewhere.

Open Rakuten account and pay up the fees. They will open it at Bursa on your behalf.

I heard there is some hiccup and server down for M+ users, luckily not happen on rakuten trade.
*
Actually its the other way round usually, rakuten has quite some downtime, M+ so far so good.

Am I reading this right? I'll only get charged RM9 minimum per transaction of less than RM10k if I buy US shares through rakuten?

Isn't that a really good deal compared to say, fundsupermart? I remember they charge USD$8 for such transactions

We dunno the forex spread yet right? Also if they don't have USD wallet, everytime they pay dividend, and we reinvest the div, we double pay the commissions.

is there any global stocks ETF that is accumulating in US stock exchange? I checked that VT is a distributing ETF
*
US listed ETFs cannot be accumulating, that one you kena find their UCITS counterpart.

I rather buy VWRA then. Rakuten don't even have VXUS.
