Hi everyone, I have a question regarding DCA and broker fees.
Lets say I got shares for companies A,B and C.

and now every month I buy shares like this:

A - RM300
B - RM400
C - RM200

so I pay rm21 broker fees per month

***********************************

Is it better if i do like this:

this month buy A - RM850
next month buy B - RM900
third month buy C - RM870

Three months only pay RM21 fee

On one hand, in the long run I would be saving a lot on the broker fees. But then wouldnt the effect of DCA for each share would be lesser because I buy from each company less often (once every 3 months)?

But also, given how volatile share prices can be, DCA may not be impacted as much anyway I suppose?

Hi, regarding buying odd lots, is Rakuten's odd lot limit only 99 lots?

I tried buying more than 100 but it gives me "Invalid Quantity" error.

Sorry this took so long, but you can refer to this

Very interesting tool and thanks for sharing! But maybe not so suitable for stock markets since prices can fluctuate so much (like what's happening now) and it asks for an expected return rate per year?

The difference is that 99% of the market is trading on board lot. Odd lots are rare. Your chances of getting partially matched when buying Odd lots are much higher. You can almost only buy/sell what's at the queue unless someone let it go to you. If you don't care about buy/sell price, you can use market order to buy at whatever price share available then you won't get partial match issue.

In example, a share issued free units as dividend to share holder let say 7 units for every 1 lot (100 units). If shareholders get this 7 unit, either they just keep it or they sell it as Odd Lot. Hence why the number of odd units selling in the market is much lower as 99% of shareholders are holding whole numbers lot size of 100 units each. So if I got that 7 units, I can only sell look at the Odd Lot queue and see what price the sellers are selling at. If you monitor, you will see Odd lot queues jump much slower as the number of traders selling/buying odd lot are much lower.

If you sell/buy at Board Lot, chances are you get matched pretty quickly.

So if in this example, I want to sell off all my warrants, I need to make 2 separate transactions of 4 board lots + 50 odd lots?

It depends on the price and volume available. If you are OK with the Best Buy price in Odd Lot, just sell it one shot la. I'm not sure if you sell Odd and Board lot separately how's the charges going to be whether there's any additional transaction fee. Besides that, for this warrant, the value around RM30. Deduct transaction fee not much left  laugh.gif

Not all platform supports odd lot selling. Some may have to sell through remisier which may cost more.

Why not you reply that email and ask about transaction cost if you sell it on same day? Whether they charge once or twice.
