Hi,

I am having backache and my spinal doctor recommended to this chiropractic place I find a bit fishy because:

Each treatment cost RM 230++, with a minimum of 12 treatments contract - otherwise it will be RM 270 per treatment. This seems to be much higher than the typical price range based on my brief online research. I am having problem with this because I feel like I am not patient but a customer getting pushed to buy amway/herbal life/facial package...

The receipt is unprofessional (basically the type of receipt anyone can issue, without header, address, etc.). I may have a hard time claiming this. Not sure if it is standard here in Malaysia.

The first treatment I had was actually okay (manual adjustment, opinions on my posture, infra-red treatment), but I had doubt on the quoted price (is my doctor getting 40% commission on this????).

I am actually heading to another clinic for a second opinion, but I thought some of you guys may have relevant experience in this to share. Thanks in advance!

It is super pricey just for one treatment. I think you should look elsewhere. I used to go chiro the pricing was around RM80 per session in Penang. But I stopped before my recommended session ended which was supposed to be 12 weeks(I didn't take up their package just paid per visit) because I just felt like it was getting repetitive and I didn't see much changes after some time. I think my first few sessions was helpful to correct some of my issues. I think you should listen to your body and get second opinions if you decide to go with chiro. Most of them will tell you, you need 12- 20 sessions or twice a week etc etc. But in my opinion I don't think it's necessary at all. Depends on how severe your condition is also, mine was considered minor because it wasn't caused by accident or anything like that just overtime misalignment.

In short, it does sound too fishy.

Rm230 per treatment is way overboard. But if you're talking about your first visit, then perhaps it's within "reasonable" range. Chiropractic treatment prices range from Rm100-Rm180 depending on where you go. Consultation fees (for the first visit) ranges anywhere from Rm60-80.

"Packages" are also very common, because business-wise, thats the only way to tie a customer down. It's just basic economics. The other reason is to encourage compliance from the patients to follow-through with their treatments till they recover. But do be aware that there are unscrupulous people out there who would convince you to keep renewing your packages just to keep themselves in business.

But fret not, you can still find places where they don't jack-up the prices of per-visit-sessions to make you feel "forced" to pay for their discounted packages.

Perhaps you should check-out this thread: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/904300/+300

I never believe in any health package. Wtf was tat supposed to mean? Unless u r going chemo, i cant think of any other health related consultation tat requires 'packages' to heal.

It depends on how you word it. The simplest idea is this: Your disease took awhile to develop, and hence it would also take awhile to recover. Chiropractic is the same, it's not a one-time off treatment. It's like a course of antibiotics, you take the full dose for a specified amount of days for full recovery.

Most ppl have the misconception on the chiropractor. It's not a one-time treatment problem solved. If you have a backpain, for example, it takes time to realign the spine. Hence the multiple sessions. Do get second (and/or third) opinion if you think nothing has changed after first few sessions.

Pls go see a spine specialist first. Not just an ortho specialist but those sub specialize in spine. Depending on yr symptom the spine specialist might recommend you to do imaging..

This is very important and true. There are very, like really very few if any, doctors that would recommend a chiropractor over a physiotherapist. That being said, I myself have had bad back issues that were able to be fixed using both chiro and remedial massage. I started with twice a week for a month and a half then gradually once a week to once every two weeks and then on maintenance, once every month. Since I started weightlifting and going back to dance my back tends to be out quicker than the month is over so I just go get it fixed when I can feel it's out. Chiropractors are a lifesaver but you do need to choose a good one. If you're in KL area I'd recommend Spineworks at Empire Soho Subang. Dr Barry is the owner and he is good but because he is busy he doesn't spend as much time on you. I always ask for Dr Jennyfer when I go there now, she's great and takes time to fix your problems. Not sure what kinds of packages they have but because I don't live in Malaysia now so i just go for single treatments, which cost around RM100, +- Rm5

Just sharing my personal experience. I used to believe that chiropractic doesn't help with my back pain, until I met my MD friend and he said go ahead and take the experience, nothing to risk as well.

So, I went.

Package or not it was fine with me. What was interesting was the during the first visit they took a picture of me standing, facing-front and sideway and stored it (I gave them permission of course); doctors then did a detailed examination and explained how my current lifestyle (long hours office worker) and poor posture could have led to current body condition.

It sounded reasonable so I went with the first treatment, it was super awkward haha, and I felt mildly constraints on my back for a couple of hours. I went back to the same clinic every alternate weeks for 3 months. At the end of three month, they did another check up and review session.

Honestly speaking, I did feel good with regular sessions of adjustments. What was really intriguing was the body posture I have compared to 3 months ago was VERY Different. No slouching, balanced shoulder and I asked myself honestly was it a placebo effect? I knew I was honest and not to kid myself, spending for placebo effect. It did help with my body aching conditions, sleep conditions, and sinus condition. (I guess all are inter-related anyway.)

I go for Mid-Valley one (KIRO Lounge) when I am in KL, and when I travel to Singapore, I go to Sinaran Drive ( http://chiropractic.sg) there.

Went to a chiropractor in Bangsar that was similarly priced. Expensive. Didn't help.

I find Osteopathy way better but the last time I went to one was many years ago (less than RM100 a session). Unfortunately, the osteopath I went to has since retired sad.gif She was excellent.

Have you tried Bowen therapy? The therapist I know (first in Malaysia) says that if the therapy doesn't work within 3 sessions then quit it. She's very confident about what she does and passionate about it too!

A friend just went to chiro for backache and he told me that the clinic tried to push a package on him for multiple treatments at a discount about 75 each session, so your 200+ quote sounds high.

Personally I don't think chiro treatments are helpful for correcting long term issues that arise from bad posture that typically also involves a lack of strength and you'll have to do some physio to build up muscle and relearn postural habits.

Where is this place?
It is super expensive, I thought mine was quite pricy.

I recently tried chiropractic at Precision chiropractic sri petaling, my doctor was Dr Deon it work wonders for me but you need to do your part. Its not like one time treatment where the pain all goes away.

What do you mean by doing your part? Do you mean to go back regularly for the treatment?

Like regular exercises, the advices the doctor tells you. Taking care your spine is like taking care any other part of your body like "you are what you eat"

Hi,

Kindly recommend a good value for money DORN therapy / gonstead method around KL area

I check and mentioned therapy around RM4k and medicine around RM3k. Its just about correcting hip alingment.

Strange part the practioner told even after the treatment may not 100% guarantee.

In addition, any good shi shi master around KL area to tackle shoulder pain? Suspect maybe "urat lari" or "angin".

Kindly advise.
