No.  Every demo unit are dimmer when compared to note 5 & s7 edge. So you said every s8 demo unit is defective? That's impossible.  If you don't believe, you can go to Samsung store and see for yourself.

As bro big[1] said, auto brightness may have different result .but when it comes to manual brightness, note 5 and s7 edge are brighter.

Gotta disagree with u on the iris scanner part.. I am wearing glasses and it works like a charm, never had any issues with it..

Design I agree Samsung nailed it.. A 6.2" screen and yet so compact really good. Aesthetics 11/10.
In fact I tried both and prefer the 8+ while the 8 design & size seems better suited for the ladies (sorry not meant to be a sexist remark)

The battery life is better on recent models but had a Note 5 where not so great and that not heavy use. Quite happy with 7 plus battery life.

About camera the 8+ is much better? I'm no cam expert just been dabbling with the 7+ cam and quite like the pics but to be honest I only compared to the demo unit pics (Just asking as a discussion not as fan boy so no offence please)

Animation not smooth surprising as lots of comments on web that Nougat has surpassed iOS but as you say now better.

Yes, the Iris scanner is scarily fast for me wearing specs too.  Not even properly align my eyes into the 2 circles already unlocked....awesome.

But anyway i add my trusted bluetooth devices to bypass the security during the day time. Only need to unlocked with iris in the morning.

i use contact lenses and glasses, both works well..
actually, it even exceed my expectation..
You see when use iris scanner got the 2 circle thing pop up and ask u to "place" your eyes there, but in actual fact you dont have to align your eyes to the circles, just LOOK at the top part of your phone where all the sensors are and that will unlock the phone..

The 2 circle is a bit misleading into thinking u need to adjust your phone or eyes to the circle which takes up time and is a bit of an inconvenience.. but you dont have to, just look at top part of phone where sensors are will do the job
