There are no "Best free VPN". Free VPN doesn't offer premium server. Anyway even if it excellent right now doesn't mean it will continue be as good.

Most VPN service come with compromise. Pick the one that suite your budget. And most important is not to subscribe for long term before you give it a try. Most VPN offer 7 days money back guarantee so use it to test their service. If the VPN you're interested doesn't offer trial or money back guarantee just subscribe for 1 month with a more expensive price. Give it a try before you totally commit to their service.

Best regard.

I subscribed for a free VPN account from FinchVPN on 1st May.

It gave me a 3GB quota per month for as long as I do not upgrade to a paid account.

There are only 3 free VPN servers to choose from, but all of them are very slow.

Will upgrading to a paid account be entitled to connecting to fast premium VPN servers?

For me so far I tested, PureVPN, ExpressVPN, NordVPN are in the "ummmmmm" category for TM network. So far the only VPN that I am happy with is FinchVPN as I use it for gaming and normal browsing only. I don't do P2P but FinchVPN does have some Netherlands server that allow P2P. I am going to test VyprVPN later. BTW all my testing are base on 1 month subscription on premium server base on Malaysia and Singapore.

Best regard.

Yes if without 7 days money back guarantee. 1 month trial for most VPN provider usually will cost 10 USD.

Its not free, I paid for premium, their top priority is user privacy, they never logging and record any user activity.

I bought 1 year plan with 50GB quota per months.

Very interesting. Didnt know about this VPN. Will have to give them a try. I use IPVanish myself. Great iPhone and iPad apps and great speed plus no dropped connection. No complaints from me.

It is free for life with unlimited data and blazingly fast VPN speeds.

It also allows P2P without throttling. smile.gif

I dunno about setting it up on router, but it runs an OpenVPN daemon in the background.

Perhaps we can if we know how to set it up as on OpenVPN client in the router.

I think it allows portforwarding by default, otherwise my uTorrent client cannot run. smile.gif

You can try out Betternet on the iOS or Android platforms according to your smartphobe.

And yes, it works for P2P, at least on my Windows version.

Give it a try. It is free for life with unlimited data. smile.gif

So you really believe that they could provide free service while they have to fork out money themselves for the bandwidth and server? There's no free lunch in the world. You are not playing explicitly but you are paying in some other form.

an honest opinion would be to look for an alternative to Maxis instead of looking for a VPN. bus still... also, the more you read on torrent vpn the more you realize there is no "best" bet. just the "right" bet. so whatever floats your boat is the right option, one you should look for.

as a rule of thumb, ensure these things before you sign up for something

1. no of servers in that particular region you're trying to connect to, the more the better
2. encryption. this is essential because of obvious reasons
3. speed. it's okay to lose a little speed in the process of encrypting and securing your torrent. perfectly normal. but if it's too low the downloading becomes impossible, then that's a red flag.
4. most importantly, go through your provider's policies over their policy page. the last thing you want is to pay to be ratted out.

Nordvpn are often being recommended by many reviewers but this particular reviewer said it's bad.

May be I will try the Blackvpn but is rather expensive. For cheaper ones, may be I will try VPNArea.

I am not sure what is "proxy" setting.

I set mine on the AC68U router itself. Openvpn. AES256. I have also tried Singapore/Malaysia/Manila and the best result was 18 mbps on the unifi 50 mbps. That would be 35%.

Is that considered good or bad vpn?

BTW, may I ask, how much % speed reduction are you getting on your vpn?

Or which vpn service would you recommend?

Have considered those.
Finchvpn is fast because it uses less secure Blowfish instead of AES256
Bolehvpn only support 3 device, not sufficient for my usage.

Since you are in Sabah, do you get best result using Manila server or KL server or which server?

mostly sg server / malaysia server for ping and speed, cause unifi main server are still inside kl, us here route to kl already 100+ ping, so anything around there consider optimal d

i do have a cracked version of a particular vpn, i can access all of it's functions but not the servers, but it's something i will not share in pm nor here

what is the best VPN? It should be the one manage by yourself.

For me, I can get 40++Mbps speedtest results for unifi 50Mbps line with VPS in Singapore.

Many good VPN service provider only provide limited VPN services, actually you can do more than that with a VPS if you know how to manage it

Yes, I agree with that, there is no such company as best vpn, you do not know if they are logging you and selling your data, safest is to set up using a vps, amazon offer very cheap on demand vpn service via EC2 instance, other choices like linode, digital oceon or vultr also quite cheap...

Hello, KTCY, I am using ExpressVPN which is best VPN for P2P file sharing and torrenting. The unlimited speed offered to ensure your downloading speed is not capped and fully supports Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and Windows.

When choosing a vpn one should research thoroughly before investing in a service. the service should be worthy to pay an amount and get the service that is promised for, i go to all review site that deeply describes the service, one of my go-to place https://www.bestvpn.co/ where I find comprehensive guides and in-depth reviews for mostly all vpn service.

You should never use free VPNs they are a threat to your online privacy as they have access to all your data which is being transmitted using their network and you are trusting them. Using No VPN is better than using a free VPN as you do not have their background info. You can check https://switchvpn.net , they offer 3-day free trial, you dont need any credit card to sign up.

Please use above link for free 3 days trial. Nordvpn is top 3 vpn service in the world with best price. It have cybersec feature which act as a ad-blocker. Also comes with browser extension that is very easy to use.
I
Otherwise, you can setup personal vpn with vps, but more costly.

i've bought nordvpn, so far so good. the only problem i have is the windows client, where it refuses to connect every time unless i restart my pc, or i have to reset the tap adapter every time when it is in the middle of connection to vpn server so that the connection will be successful. any idea what's the problem? i've added all firewall rules related to nordvpn.

Nordvpn have live chat to solve customer problem.

For stable connection, I suggest to use openvpn udp, download openvpn configuration file and install openvpn client software to use it.

Or u can try IPSec that window already have build in software.

For normal surfing activity, chrome or Firefox extension is very handy tool.

If u need further details how to setup, then you can google ā€œhow to install openvpn/IPSec for Windows 10/7 nordvpnā€, there are many tutorials available on official website.

For P2P sharing internet speed matters a lot, further most of the VPN's slow down the internet speed. I have been using FastestVPN for the same purpose luckily this VPN has no such issues it works very well and its speed is better than other VPN's. I would recommend you to give it a try as they have also 7 days money back policy, so if you will have a problem you can refund your money.

Not the kinds of VPNs discussed here but I connect to my L2TP/IPSEC VPN at my house to access, for example, the CCTV DVR. Instead of port forwarding since we all know how secure DVRs are.

Their are many VPNs out there and it's not easy to compare them, but you can try this USA VPN Platform https://www.usavpn.com to find out which VPN is a perfect fit for you. The VPNs which are listed on this page which I have mentioned, also are useful for p2p.

I recently started to use BolehVPN. Cheap and currently testing them for about a week. So far I satisfied with the performance. Well, different people have different opinion. I would suggest TS to read few reviews from users and at reddit as well before opting a suitable VPN for your need.

Yah, agree to try and test it first before confirm.

But bolehvpn is not cheap, at least the price listed on official website is not cheap compare to other vpn.

Bolehvpn, 1 year, rm260
Nordvpn, 2 years, rm240

Not sure about vpngate.

Own build vpn server is good if u hardly use vpn. For long term usage, commercial vpn is much more cheaper and have thousands of servers for various purpose. We need various locations vpn for different purposes, such as P2P, home country ip, Netflix, change ip to enjoy cheaper products, and many others. Unless u are really good at networking, bypass firewall can be difficult with own build vpn. Commercial vpn also have many protocols for u to bypass firewall.

For those who use Express VPN USA server on their unifi/maxis fibre. What's the usual ping like? I'm using digi infinite. While the speed with vpn is generally acceptable at around 10mbs, ping is very high at 250ms.

If the ping with maxis/unifi is less than 100 with express vpn USA server. I am thinking of changing to maxis/unifi fibre.

Yah, it cannot be done on tp-link router.

Get a router support openvpn client for best result.

Suggest to get a new router, not to replace, but connect it to your existing router. If no need vpn, connect to old modem wireless, if need vpn, connect to new router wireless.

Pm me if u want to know more.

I use PIA, although in the last day or so it's been going off & on, but compared to ALL the other VPNs I tried, this is by far the best. I haven't had any problem with downloading torrents, with all of the options (also having 5 devices connected at the same time). It is indeed one of the fastest vpn service around. I'm pretty happy with it so far! I live in Australia and was pretty happy to see that they have a sydney and a melbourne server. I have been able to utilize almost my full 30 megabits, getting around 25-ish over torrents during peak times.

I just got Surf Shark's subscription as I found promo code in the internet. Speed is quite stable as it is quite new provider. I mainly use it for Netflix, as it is optimised for fast video content delivery so the quility is quite good tho.

Hi all, i am new to VPN.
1) Can we use 1 subscription over multiple devices (mix of IOS, Android and Microsoft) assuming the subscription allows multiple concurrent login?
2) Is multiple concurrent login a standard feature of all VPN?
3) Can in use the VPN on my router rather than individual devices?
4) Any PureVPN user here that can comment on the quality of their services (e.g. lost of connection, drop in speed etc..)
Thanks.

Hello.. I am not sure about any other vpn offering multi-login setup. But the current one I am using allows 5 simultaneous connections. But it is mediocre when it comes to speed. I am not having much speed, my experience with Nord and IPVanish was much better but I went for it because it was really cheap and features were as good as any other vpn.

Your multi-login question is answered.

Yes, you can set up a vpn on your router directly than using it on different devices, but setting up a router is a difficult task.

Yes, I am using the said vpn, overall its a good vpn with a lot of good features, but when it comes to speed its a choker sometimes. Not going to lie about it. Purevpn review list all the features, user generated comments from reddit and twitter.

Overall, I'd rate it 7/10 the only bad experience is with speed IMO.

Thanks for the info n advices.

I feel pretty good about Ivacy VPN, it is equipped with the latest functionalities and comes at a much lower price as compared to the other options out there. But I think a quick Google search would net you some great info.

Price is not the issue, I prefer a vpn to be the best vpn as long as it provides good speeds while working with it. I have used IP Vanish, Buffered, Astrill, but the best ever I used and still using is the NordVPN. It does the job for me and also is the fastest vpn service.I have ever come across.

I would rate the service 8.5/10 good servers, let me access Netflix libraries, access streaming channels like BBC iPlayer and what not. Most of the time I am working on a public wifi and with NordVPN I have a sense of security at all times.

Latest NordVPN servers update:

Total : 4922 servers across 62 countries
Malaysia: 6 servers
Singapore: 62 servers (fastest speed)

Cyber security awareness in Malaysia is still very low and not many peoples think it is necessary unless he/she is tech savvy. (what do u think?)

However, it is very useful when u access public wifi and travel to oversea.

I have friends go to UAE and Saudi, they not even can use whatapps voice call (dont ask me why, it is local government law) to communicate with friends and family. After using VPN, then they can make a voice call with whatapps and save money on VOIP (BTW, wechat out is extremely useful and cheap when travel oversea but want to call back to Malaysia or contact local persons).

Please PM me if u are willing to give Nordvpn a try, check my signature for more info.

I honestly would not use a free VPN ever. You need to ask yourself why anyone would offer a free VPN service. Running a VPN involves hundreds of high-speed servers which are extremely expensive to buy and then later on maintain. So how do these people and companies make money if they offer free services?

One possibility could be that they intercept all your data and sell them for advertising agencies and corporations. This is most likely happening with most free VPNs.

Then there is also he possibility that they use the intercepted data to hack your online accounts such as social media profiles and perhaps even online banking.

There were some free VPNs that have been found to run botnets on people's computers and devices.

And there is also a very realistic possibility that many free VPNs are funded and secretly owned by various governments such as China or Russia in order to intercept people's online communications.

This topic is further elaborated here. I would never use a free VPN no matter what. Stick to the proven to be safe premium VPNs that are not forced to intercept and sell people's data in order to make money. Paying $10 a month for a good VPN is really not that much.Price is not an excuse anymore.

You can always get a free trial with BolehVPN and see how it is. It is the oldest locally running vpn provider and operates one of the better vpn services out there.

You just can't go wrong with NordVPN since it has dedicated P2P servers. I heavily download torrents and seldom I had issues with servers or my downloading speeds go down by a big margin. I get to know about this feature from a review and made my choice instantly.

I agree with the top comment that speed is really an essential part for measuring any vpn connection performance. I have been using surf shark vpn from last few months and to my surprise it has been performing amazingly good. It has great speed, no connection error, excellent connectivity. Cherry on top they have launched a new dale with the name surfshark vpn black friday deal, which offers monthly price of $1.99. I think its the cheapest in this year. People should check this vpn out also. wink.gif smile.gif

I have 100Mbps Unifi.

Connecting to the fastest server available, with my VPN and Asus AC68U router, I can get 90 Mbps. Is that good or bad?

It depends on how the video steaming server set their firewall and ur ISP.

Some video load slow because of the ISP have limit number of connections for ur devices. With VPN ur device only create a connection to vpn server, thus can bypass the limit and stream videos faster.

PM me if u interested with Nordvpn.

Thanks.

I spent some time googling around and found out apple tv can use smart dns to bypass region lock. There are a few providers giving free trials so I'm currently using unlocator free 7 days dns. Once expired will change to other providers. Then will decide which one being the best yet the cheapest.

Smartdns is different concept compare to vpn, vpn is more secure and serve more purposes.

Ur ISP still know what u are surfing.

Anyway, it depends on what u want to achieve, find a product that suit u is more important.

U are using shared account or legit account? For shared account, u will experience connection interruption from time to time.

If u are using legit account, try Singapore server and use udp server instead of tcp. Please talk to customer service or PM me if have question, we are nordvpn authorised reseller please check my signature for more info.

A lot of people are using VPN, I also tried free VPN but the connection was quite poor. It was always some problems, I couldn't watch the video without load downloading. Then I tried paid VPN, Nord VPN is one of the good VPNs but isn't it too expensive? I am currently using https://www.vpnunlimitedapp.com/en/downloads/ to watch the video and to work with some websites. I agree with you guys, you choose good VPN for yourself but I also pay attention at price. Good VPN provides a high speed and a big variety of different countries to connect to, mine gives me this opportunity. I also want to be secure and to keep my data private. NordVPN and ExpressVPN are also a good option but I already choose mine.
If you need it to watch Netflix, free VPN is good but it would be reloading your video several times per view. I advice paid VPN in any case, it's much better not only for watching but for your nerves.
*
Yes, bite the bullet and get a paid VPN. You can have one paid for about ~RM 10 - 12 per month and it can be used for 5 or 6 devices. Share among your friend or your family and it work out to be peanut per device per month.

Kindly support legit account as well. One month is only slightly above rm10 to have good vpn service with Nordvpn (can contact me for more info).

Expressvpn also another good vpn but too pricy.

According to online reviews, nordvpn can be use in China with obfuscated server.

Some devices need to use manual setting to access blocked pages, depends on what device u have.

Please pm if u want to purchase or know more about nordvpn.

90 Mbps on a VPN is pretty good, but remember that your speed on a VPN will depend on many factors, not just your line speed. The reason is due to the encryption that is applied to the data and other things as well.

Same, found a discount code surfdiscount on Reddit and got the same deal as you mentioned.

By the way, I read this article today https://www.bestvpn.com/awards/. The team behind it did an in-depth research of the market and gave out the best VPN awards for 2019 in different categories. Happy to see Surfshark won the best newcomer award, they deserve it.

Free VPNs are not good in general. Remember, if you don't pay money, you pay with your data. I read that often free VPN providers sell the user's activity data to 3rd parties for advertising purposes.

Also, it's important to do research before picking a provider. If the company is based in any of the 14 eyes countries, the provider is not safe. For an example, if the provider is based in the UK and the authorities asked them for your information, they would need to cooperate.

NordVPN works well for me. Just make sure you check their support page for the updated list of servers that are working and you should be fine. Here's the whole list: NordVPN support page. Other than that it's always useful to get in touch with them on the live chat, in my personal experience they can help with setup issues very effectively.

Is there any VPN good for Netflix ? I try NordVPN and it recommends server, Netflix always prompts out the message.

I install VPN's apps in Mibox S.
*
Please connect to server as per suggest above. Here

Also remember to get legit account from nordvpn as if 2 sharing account that connect to same server will not work.

Shared account might not work.

Please get legit account and contact live chat support, normally they will send u list of available server. But if more than 1 device under same account is connect to same Netflix server, only one device will work , another one will get kick out.

Here is the place u can get genuine account with good price.

*
What purpose do you use VPN? Just for watch android box (bypass georestriction)?
Don't use openvpn. Use L2TP/PPTP.

OpenVPN is the maximum security if you want to be anonymous and avoid tracing. It encrypt all your traffic. that's why make your connection slow.

L2TP/PPTP is enough to unblock georestriction. Try this and you will see your speed much improved. smile.gif
But still the max speed depends on which server you connect to. i'm connecting to US server can get max 150Mbps on my 800MBps connection. If connect to SG/MY server almost full speed.

Yeah, they do. To be honest, the download speed did surprise me when I first tried it, the drop is barely noticeable.
*
The speed is horrible for P2P for Surfshark if you connect to non US VPN. It will route your traffic to Netherland, according to Surfshark customer service when I noticed my download speed never beyond 1 Mbps and my IP show I am using Netherland IP.

For me I just change DNS and tweak a couple of advanced settings on the router to get around geo-block. No VPN needed. Works with all my devices.

How do you do that ? Please explain.

If the site detects your public IP, how can changing DNS and router settings change the IP seen by the other end.

Genuine question.

I have done some reading on this.

I think this only works for certain services. It is not able to work for all services. For example, it won't work for YouTube which has been geo blocked.

All VPNs have the same problem: the quality is depending on the bandwidth of the VPN tunnel, you won't get native speed.

I've tried both ExpressVPN and NordVPN and find that both their speeds to US servers are quite ok.

The speeds vary at times though. Usually, more than fast enough for streaming. A lot of it is also your own equipment dependent since the encryption takes up a lot of overhead. I prefer Nord as I find it's better value for money biggrin.gif

If you're travelling to Middle East or China, get Cisco Express VPN from lazada.com.my (look for Cisco Express VPN), will work well.

I don't recommend any VPN companies that are popular.

This is the one I use. It's highly regarded as they are at the forefront in terms of technical improvements. They support WIREGUARD.

Personally, while in China, ExpressVPN failed me on many occasions.

Hi, There is a lot of VPN providers and like any product, you get what you pay for. So I believe there are many factors should be taken into consideration before buying a VPN, such as security:
1- Privacy
2- Payment Methods
3- Security
4- Subscription
5- Advertisements

the following article helps me to make my decision Factors to Consider Before Buying a VPN

For streaming and NEtflix and even China access I think the newbie on the block (Surfshark) is quite good. Fast too. However, it hasn't really been on the market that long.

Do u understand what term VPN?

Do not expect you get full speed when using VPN, VPN means to encrypt and decrypt the traffic and thus speed will be affected.

It is a shared VPN service and getting 150Mbps is already pretty good.

You will need your own dedicated VPN if you need anything faster.

Done my own research before I subscribed to SurfShark VPN. Here is my sharing in case anyone is looking for a vpn.

My choice of vpn are down to SurfShark and Nord vpn. Both are good in terms of security features, no logging policy, number of servers and price. But SurfShark is cheaper (2 years for 47.76USD, ie 1.99USD per month) as compare to Nordvpn (3 years, 2.99USD per month). Expressvpn is good in these areas as well but too expensive.

In terms of speed, SurfShark is good but inconsistent. For example, if without connecting to vpn my connection speed is about 300mbps, connecting to Singapore server sometimes is as fast as 17 ping, 204mbps (down), 26 (up), sometimes it is as slow as 190 ping, 6mbps (down), 3mbps (up). This is using default settings to allow the app to choose connection protocol. After I switched to use IKEv2 protocol, the download speed are better : 217mbps for connecting to Singapore server, 106mbps for Hong Kong, 169mbps for Japan, 158mbps for London, 87mbps for Dallas USA. These are numbers from speed test that I have done. Using IKEv2 protocol are much faster than openvpn (tcp), openvpn (udp) because openvpn have more payload. Also, do not use the Automatic option as it may chooses to use openvpn.

I was thinking to cancel the subscription and get nordvpn but after reading some articles on the speed of nordvpn, I decided not to do it. What I read was nordvpn speed is a bit better than surfshark but in terms of price, it's a big difference to me . Also, surfshark has some feature that I like, like you can choose application, website or ip address to bypass vpn. This is good if you want to connect to bank's website or local website (like assteruk on the go) while still connecting to foreign server in vpn.

I do not have netflix but reviews in www.thebestvpn.com stated that netflix allow access on 6 out of 6 tests done on surfshark whereas netflix allow access on 5 of 6 tests done on nordvpn.

I do not affiliated to surfshark, just talking about my findings. Just do your own research and decide what suit you best.

And here is my research website, enjoy! thumbup.gif

No experience using PIA, all I know is from what I have read before: all articles says PIA speed is fast, if not the fastest. This is because industry standard uses 256-bit encryption whereas PIA default settings uses 128-bit encryption, which makes the payload less hence faster. It is suited for those who wants to do torrent or streaming. Netflix wise you need to double check because some article says it can't gain netflix access from some of the PIA servers. Price is more expensive than surfshark and nordvpn, i think is about 3USD++ per month for 2 years contract. The rest you need to read through those articles, like the company is in USA, hence authority can request user data.

Funny, NordVPN's 70% off sale is always stuck at 9 hours left for days now. Scam?

Might be a glitch. They recently increased their prices. Used to be $2.99 per month for 3 years plan..now up to $3.4-something sad.gif

if looking for privacy - NordVPN

+ True no log no dmca
even the deepweb recommended this

+ Private dedicated ip. Only you will have the ip and not be detected as a proxy or vpn when browsing

One of the VPN I'd recommend is TorGuard which was designed specifically for P2P file sharing users.

You can read up on a detailed review on this VPN: Pros and Cons of TorGuard

Hi all,

Hope some kind soul here can advise. I just subscribed NordVPN and tried out Netflix US region. It worked on my laptop but strangely not on my Nvidia Shield TV. I keep getting the infamous error message "unblocked/proxy used". I tried setting it on my Asus router per their instructions, same problem. Anyone faced similar issue before?

Hi,

Issue not resolved. Apparently this is a known issue with NordVPN not working on Android-based devices. So, I switched to ExpressVPN and it works flawlessly though more expensive happy.gif

I am using vpn unlimited for netflix or cbs or hulu or anything US streaming, it works flawlessly
For streaming, this is probably the cheapest vpn there is in the market. Use it on three laptops 4 mobile include both ios and Android, never failed me.

Buy a transocks router, then plug the transocks router to connect to your normal browsing router. Setup the vpn and the router. Done. Search transocks in Google.

Definitely compatible. You can also tell me if you need to arrange for delivery into Malaysia. Never use taobao official forwarder, cuz router is considered sensitive item. I can help you to arrange for other courier to ship into Malaysia safely.

I used Nord VPN before for Netflix US region on my Nvidia shield..yup sometimes it can be finicky but two locations will get tru Netflix geo block that is LA or Chicago..if you still get the proxy error message, just exit Netflix, go to setting-> apps->netflix->clear cache

Dear guys, I want to set up 2 router to link together, 1 using VPN all the time, another as normal web surfing.

I have one original Maxis router - Archer c5v, and another TP link WR841HP.

Can anyone teach me how to link together and setup the VPN on the tp link WR841HP router? I have searched online and tried for 2 days, still cannot figure out how.

Please please please.

Presently I am using one. Without VPN, speed can be as high as 500 Mbps. With VPN, it drops to below 50 Mbps.

That's normal.. If you understand how VPN work.

U cannot expect VPN will be running full speed.

For me I just want privacy protection, that why I getting half of the speed or less because I need to encrypt my traffic/data to the server, then from server need to decrypt traffic/data, then the data need to send to destination to get feedback to server, then server need to encrypt back the traffic/data to ur destination, that why its depend where the server located, the further the server is the slower traffic it will be.

I know VPN will slow down speed. But speed reduction of 90% seems excessive to me. This is on Unifi Home.

But on Unifi Biz on another location, without VPN speed is 40 mbps. With VPN is 30 Mbps. May be Biz line is better?

Biz line is dedicated port for business use. Not much different.

Make sure you connect to nearest VPN like singapore.

Been using VPN for couple of years already so I do know how it works.

Both VPN on Unifi Home and Biz are using the same brand VPN and both connecting to the fastest server. Yet the difference is huge. The only difference is, the one giving me lower speed is a newer PC. Couldn't figure it out.

ExpressVpn have split tunneling for Android, Mac and also Windows...
For Nord i think it can be use only as a browser extension in Chrome and Firefox.

If you interested on having ExpressVpn.. i still have 2 slots available for sharing.

I'm using Express VPN. 10% bandwidth loss on speedtest. P2P I sense no throttling as I can hit as high as non VPN connection speed.

Expensive yes, I've tried Nord but they have almost 20% bandwidth loss which is not acceptable on my 100mbps line.

Not so much about censorship, but more on attempting to get a fixed IP anchored in the remote VPN server. So that I can come back into my home. I hate it that when I use remote VPN egress point, Google appears in Cyrillic, Deutsch, Arabic, ....

So is there a general consensus on the best VPN? talking bout speed/latency/privacy and of course bypassing VPN block. I'm using ProtonVPN currently, free acc with a week premium trial. Similar speed but unfortunately it can't bypass VPN block detection.

Tried the 1 mth free trial, nope definitely not for torrent heavy users. Very limited torrent capable servers. Non torrent servers you get throttled. And also the bandwidth lost is at least 10%.

Yeah, using this with 12+3 mth offer. Less than 5% speed lost. Torrent is full speed.

I have only used ZoogVPN so far. I think the most important aspect in choosing a VPN is that it must be trustworthy. So far, I haven’t heard any reports of data leaks from that VPN so I think it’s good.

Do not simply share accounts with unknown people unless you're looking for trouble.
They could use it for illegal activities, and if authorities start tracing back to your VPN which would MOST LIKELY give in due to the fact they want to keep their operation licenses, they'll reveal the account's logs and the first suspect is always the account owner.

That is why you should always buy your VPN accounts with crypto currencies or vouchers. It's highly advisable rather than using debit cards or online banking which links back to your name.

Also each account depending on its price allows 2,5 or 10 simultaneous logins(ip addresses) which some people oversell it to more than allowed. If one of your shared members shares it elsewhere, your account will be locked out and detected for misused causing unnecessary trouble for you to beg your VPN provider to release your account again.

10K Nord VPN premium accounts
Just Google it.

This so called number 1 rated VPN is now probably running a ponzi scheme and after having sold thousands of 3 years validity accounts, they all suddenly got leaked.

If suddenly the go out of business and missing overnight, GG to all their subscribers.

The library of movies and tv series in US is much more than Malaysia account. This is because of geo restriction in the contents. At first I was like you didn’t believe it, upon trying the VPN I was sold haha.

There is a lot of vpn suggestion , but some provider will be less effective time to time.
Currently , wanted to find a cheap trial vpn just to by pass region lock on youtube.
vpn support for android phone.P2p , not so important maybe some large OS iso or program trial.
Vpn can access china website which block outsider from accessing.Like register on online shopping and etc. Some youku video stream side.
Neflix , not watching so can leave it.

Can suggest which affordable vpn ?

I'm currently using TorGuard VPN Streaming Bundle - I get 2 static IPs servers (Choose between US, UK, Japan etc) - works flawlessly with Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max.

I'm getting around 100Mbps connected to VPN server, my internet speed is 300Mbps. Decent enough for 4K streaming. I'm currently paying around $30.99 for 6 months. There's a lot of promo codes offering around 50% discount so you actually pay lesser than what was advertised.

Almost a third (30%) of the world’s top virtual private network (VPN) providers are secretly owned by six Chinese companies, according to a study by privacy and security research firm VPNpro.

The study shows that the top 97 VPNs are run by just 23 parent companies, many of which are based in countries with lax privacy laws.

Six of these companies are based in China and collectively offer 29 VPN services, but in many cases, information on the parent company is hidden to consumers.

Is NordVPN a Honeypot?
https://vpnscam.com/is-nordvpn-a-honeypot/

Do you know what a honeypot is? Well, essentially a honeypot is a service or app that looks to be legitimate, but is actually isolated and monitored without knowledge of the visitors. The ā€œproxyā€ service seems to have some inherent value to the visitor, but the visitor’s information is actually being taken. Think of a honeypot as a ā€œstingā€ operation.

How can a VPN company get this big if it doesn't have big cables, connections to big brother's intelligence agencies and money?

1) Of course it needs a BIG Company to Back it Up.
You can't be a promoting freedom and at the same time a SJW walking into some big brother state owned international TIER-1 IP transit carriers company(IBM Softlayer, Level 3, HE) and say hey let's sign a deal to allow my private servers to run on your network responsibility free?

2) Tailor the service and advertise directly to dark markets they wish to gain insight on. One way would be to offer direct Tor over VPN connections through the VPN provider and accept bitcoin. NordVPN does both of these things.

3) No intelligence agency or a world class Tier-1 internet carrier company would go through the risk and hassle of partnering with a VPN without first ensuring there would be massive advertisement funding. A true honeypot would continue spending maximum about of marketing dollars to convince people it was the best and most secure.

4) The VPN just needs to coordinate with intelligence agencies on frequent disconnections and ā€œkill switchā€ features that do not work and purposely leak your IP address.

VERDICT: If any VPN provider has these 4 checkmarks/criterias MET it is already a HONEYPOT. Not GOOD.

A few more points for you to consider:

Who is London Trust Media which founded PIA?

Is PIA a "honeypot"?

BolehVPN is home grown and was a pioneer in personal vpn and is at par with most other providers in terms of services. It is currently the only one able to provide access to Astro Go, if you are overseas. It is definitely one of the oldest VPN providers around, 15 years old and still reliable as ever.

That is a dangerous idea to consider. The VPN provider could be indirectly owned with your local government having participation stakes in it. Should you come to a disagreement with your local authorities or conflict, you'd be the first to be exposed and sought after with their own infrastructures.

My earlier article highlighted and brought up conditions and hints to look out for in shady VPN providers. They were created by corrupt to conceal their own crypto activities for their own privacy needs. What if they were involved in your country's politics and rule? Then you stepped on the wrong foot accidentally with your comments. Won't you be playing with fire on dangerous grounds? icon_idea.gif

Bolehvpn is owned and operates by company with no political affiliations nor are they funded by any large organisation. You can't take those words and promises for granted bro. The requirements for VPN provider to gain access and rent rackspaces for their VPN servers with a data centre or teaming up with Tier-1 transit ISPs requires more than just money to make the deal. These major transit carriers and data centres are owned by powerful corporations having ties big brother/governments/intels.Just as how PIA once claimed that they only deal with bigtime Tier-1 carriers for hosting their serves to ensure that their servers are up to speed with enough capacity to handle their large customer base.

Then again you might still run a small time VPN company with limited capacity off shared VPS servers. Many will still have doubts about your ability to keep up with your customers needs and if it falls short you'll receive lots of complains about slow speeds with your VPN servers. Also your routing paths and latency might not be able to match that of the big players.

The best way is still to rent your own VPS and set up your own VPN service for personal use. You will have better control and privacy over it. My reason for using a VPN is to optimize my routing so that I can get the best latency results across all major continents to where I want to access. Of course I also want to max out my speed to wherever I connect to including major cities in Europe/West Coast USA and East Asia.

It's owned by Kape Technologies whose owner was an ex-staff/member of Unit 8200, Israel’s version of the NSA.

The group also owns CyberGhost and ZenMate VPN.

Can be trusted? I have used PIA before.

Many of their servers have very high traffic, many of them are blocked by Google due to suspicious activities and blacklisted by Spamhaus.

Some of the European and East Asian vpn servers when you surf to Google, they will load the Arabic and Indian version instead.

So far had no issue for me. For google, there is captcha, after verified then can be accessed.

If you connected to East Asian, if the IP is Saudi Arab, of cos google will be show in Arabic because the computer thought you are in Saudi, but then you can change the language in google setting.

And I still trust PIA for now, and black friday I just upgraded to 3 years plan. And I'm PIA subscriber since 2016 and all my devices connected 24/7, and subscribe until today.

Nope, the server is Softlayer SG, HK and Japan. Why the IP is Saudi Arab/Hindi based?

What's the point then if if you want to be geolocation based in the country you chose but the server points elsewhere, the local services there will ban you from using them.

No la, I think the administrator who configured the servers logged into his own Google account in the server caused a bad misconfiguration. laugh.gif Also he could have remotely access the servers from his own country and forgotten to clear his own personal Google credentials while configuring them.

There's a reason why the server ISP is locally based but somehow it got identified as some other country when you load Google/FB. Most of its users logging into them aren't locals?? icon_idea.gif

Bolehvpn is owned and operates by company with no political affiliations nor are they funded by any large organisation. As you wrote earlier about others, bolehvpn lose out to them in terms of funding when it comes to marketing. Bolehvpn survives mostly from word of mouth and loyal users who stayed on after all this while.

A word of advise.

Don't waste your money on cheap VPNs. They can't afford to maintain and provide high capacity servers with good hosting providers in a long marathon.

It used to work well during the days when we were on slow DSL connections with just few Mbps plans but nowadays if you've got FTTH lines with over 100M, you'll not get speeds anything near to your ISP subscribed speed.

That was years ago when I'm still on 20 Mbps. Used for only 2-3 months.

For M247, still can get decent speed but the ping is very high. Before this, I remember that M247 when speedtest to VIEWQWEST SG only 50ms. Now it go to 137ms.

Didn't knew that even with peering agreement with M247 with TM and TIME the latency to Singapore is still this bad (>130ms).

I'm guessing something is very weird going on with these European providers who have PoPs in Asia playing tricks with their customers or our own local ISPs are intentionally throttling their customers.

Not just M247 Infra Singapore suffers from high latency from Malaysia. Even Telia Singapore Carrier nodes are also affected very badly. When you have ping times >100ms to even Singapore Tier-1 carriers it's not something normal.

Few possibilities:

1) These European ISPs are only PRIORITIZING traffic coming from Europe to access Asia's while the play dirty of blocking the OPPOSITE direction traffic heavily throttling traffic from Asia side going out to Europe the other WAY around. Thus you see pinging from Europe to Asia everything looks fine but from Asia side you trace back to Europe the latency becomes very high with packet losses.

2) Our local ISPs are INTENTIONALLY throttling consumers bandwidth/popular routing paths even when there's no known breakdown issue involved. This what we call "DOMESTIC TERRORISM". They do it to upsell their own premium services/business plans which promises solution to business users which desperately need the good routing paths back to their world HQs based in other continents. We've seen how cable cuts were mostly acts of vandalism in our country just to create extra jobs/opportunities for some people to gain from it. I've seen enough of these sort of dirty backstabbing games played in Malaysia. It's toxic!

3) So happen many are actually reading this forum and when they read that others recommend a certain server route to use, EVERYONE jumps on the same ship SINKING it! Which I doubt is this reason because M247 was all fine last year back in 2020 as well as 2019. It is one of the TOP EGRESS points and VPN server hosting provider in the world even before CDN77 took over them. Got moles from our local ISPs reading this forum wants to discourage Malaysians from using VPNs intentionally DDoS popular networks which are frequently mentioned?

NordVPN, SurfShark, Windscribe, PIA, and AirVPN, most of their servers are on M247 and CDN77 networks with over 10G capacity ports. It's almost IMPOSSIBLE for them to get congested.

GSL Networks have peering with TM, TIME and Maxis. It's an Australian company so many use it to achieve optimized route back to Australian servers even for gaming.

Not just with M247 which is a member of Equinix SG.

Other members which have exchange agreements with Equinix SG are also deprioritizing Maxis/TM routes with high latency.

Another example is Telia Carrier Singapore which has a PoP via Equinix SG.
snge-b1.telia.net

I'm getting over 100ms too via Maxis.

It's impossible like what the other forumer, Asellus said last time for Maxis to have congestion with Equinix SG.

Maxis has the most available port capacity to Equinix SG among all the ISPs in Malaysia considering its size as an eyeball type ISP:

Maxis and TM both has 200Gbps port @ Equinix SG
TIME has only 100Gbps
Global Transit(TIME's carrier company) only has 20Gbps

Yet these European major carriers are denying access and de-prioritizing packets causing major spike in latency across the day.

That's why I'm wondering where did it went wrong? Could it be either the 3 reasons mentioned in my previous post?

i think m247 routing got issue.. between SG ping also 100ms via NewMedia Express and CDN77. another thing is their route to EU/US west coast the ping latency are top notch!

so nothing to do with your maxis as before you mention got issue.

How do I know even TM who has peering with M247 also getting pings above 130ms??
I thought initially they don't want to layan Maxis because of not being one of their peering partner.

Seems they're de-prioritizing packets from Asia origin ISPs, only to serve packets coming from Europe side entering Asia like I mentioned point 1 above.

Which means they aim to help their European customers to gain access into Asia but not traffic from Asia going outwards to Europe.

You say their latency to EU/US is top notch these last few days were terrible! I just connected to M247 just now. Pings to Europe like Init 7 as high as over 400ms! Speedtest back to Malaysia to Allo server 2-3Mbps only!

Very obvious their server is de-prioritizing incoming traffic from Asia side.

How is your latency to TELIA Carrier Singapore node?

as previous thread mentioned, before the cable cut average ping was 45ms to 50ms via PCCW HK back to SG. Now their routing are rerouted to HK > JP > SG that why the ping latency are quite high.

snge-b1.telia.net >> 60ms average via HK back to SG also.

currently TM traffic for He.net / Telia are divert to HK back to SG then to EU.

Pinging from Maxis to Telia via Equinix SG directly latency is also over 100ms+!

Maxis don't even need to re-route via HK and back to SG also need over 100ms which is even worser.

What is wrong? Peering with Equinix SG is not everything, members who are not your peer list(in this case referring to Maxis) will also deprioritize your packets.

It's like having a key to a house(Equinix) but family members of the house are not obligated to allow you into their individual rooms because you've no peering arrangements with them directly?

i believe Maxis has rereoute the traffic to via HK > JP > back to Equinix or something similarity. Even the congestion the ping wouldn't reach 100ms as per SLA

Upon rechecking yeah I think you're right.

It's now rerouted from MY -> SG -> JP -> San Jose, CA - > SG just to reach Telia's server hosted within Equinix SG.

Maxis's routing must have went crazy! shocking.gif

Just to add, I'm pretty much done with M247.

If you look at most VPN providers out there they always have a set of at least 2 servers in their list for Singapore and many other major Asian destinations.

2 or more because of different needs. One is optimize for incoming traffic from other region such as Europe trying to access content in Asia and the other is the outgoing route for Asian side to other regions such as Europe/US.

I believe M247 is to serve customers which are from Europe trying to access Asian servers and contents not the other way around.

For those in Asia wanting to use Singapore as transit to connect to Europe/US there's always an alternative server which is non M247. Maybe CDN77, GSL Networks, Digital Ocean or SG.gs?

For me Maxis has peering with GSL Networks, and DO. It seems to connect well with CDN77 too via NTT America.
So yeah M247 is not favorable to Maxis but there're lots of alternatives out there.

just forget on m247. i believe your m247 also get from reseller.

is time to change provider.

cdn77 are far better then m247 but cdn77 doesn't sell VM.

Been thinking of switching from Mullvad to IVPN (mainly because they have a better interface and DNS level ad/tracker blocking on their iOS/iPadOS app), but this peering issue with M247 makes me hesitant.

At least on Mullvad, I can switch to one of the HKG/JPN (Leaseweb) or AU (Integrid) servers, or just use one of their owned 31173 servers in UK/EU region, but with IVPN, it seems to be just M247 servers for the Asian nodes. It's better this week, but between February to early March this year, SG-M247 was so bad it was unusable.

unifi (500). Will stick with Mullvad for now. At the moment I'm getting 50ms ping connected to Mullvad's owned 31173 servers in London, which is very low considering the distance, and the performance in terms of site loading times is so much better (probably cdn-peering related) compared to SG-M247. Overall, I think Mullvad performance was better before they inked the deal for Mozilla VPN to use their backend.

The latency issue has recovered for now only to be replaced by another problem. High random disconnections.
It's not coincidental for a large network like M247 which claims to be one of the world's largest hosting infrastructure service provider with presence in almost every region to be taken down for months until now yet to be recovered.

I've been tipped by an industry insider about this issue and the real reason behind it.
Like you said the problem started in early February and it's not entirely due to content access restrictions but an ongoing clampdown of information due to military coup in one of the ASEAN member country.

As you know M247 is a major Western based egress provider into Europe. Its headquartered in Manchester, UK and is used by many journalists, reporters and undercover individuals are equipped with VPN accounts using their server to correspond back to their European bases/press HQ offices.

To recall, do you remember any events which coincided with the breakdown of M247-SG/HK/JP in the month of Feb 2021? It's not just them solely. Many ISPs are still disrupted with ping spike issues, bad routing paths into other regions and occasional random disconnections.

It could happen to any popular VPS infra ISP network out there so thread this with caution. Try contacting your VPN provider to see if they have any workaround solution to this. I'm convinced now that some of our ISPs are secretly throttling our VPN connections from behind after trying out the solution suggested by the industry insider.

Not asking to name your industry insider, but it would help if you could share or link me to some resource/study/whitepaper that gives an idea of what "this" is, so that I can include it in my email to my VPN provider. If not, can you at least explain to me what kind of terms/nomenclature I should use when communicating with them? If I simply email them saying "M247 poor peering, please fix" I don't think they'll have much to work on.

Fwiw, back when the performance was bad, it was only on my home UniFi network. It seemed to be better on my cellular data (Celcom) network, so it was definitely a M247-to-TM issue for my case. Currently connected to SG-m247 at home again and performance seems stable (low ping, decent download speeds, no disconnections), although peering to certain CDNs still seems slow/throttled sometimes.

From what I've heard, the reason many of these commercial VPN providers employ M247 is because;
1. Large network, so less hassle. Sign contract/paperwork with one provider and have access to many locations, as opposed to individually hunting for best providers in individual countries.
2. M247 (supposedly) don't do logging at hypervisor level if requested by customers.

I fired up a WireGuard VPN instance (via Algo) on a DigitalOcean droplet (SG) today and performance is stellar. Easily saturates my connection speed, but that's only useful for basic privacy (hide my history from TM and protecting me on public wifi) and not really a wise option for anonymous P2P "Linux ISO" torrenting and whatnot. sad.gif

Forget about those large commercial VPN providers who are just trying to make a profit out of mainstream subscribers out there which is kept being promoted through paid reviews and ads. They'll just brush you off with standard script replies, one customer lost doesn't make a dent to their revenues especially the "Western" ones.

To avoid getting noticed, many underdogs have already kept their next generation servers from bring published openly on their public sites. They'll only offer access to these servers only by invitation or trusted customers complaining repeatedly about getting throttled if they're from some blacklisted country. Malaysia is somehow already in that list.Maybe you should ask politely for alternative routes with your VPN provider if they have any trial solutions?

At first I thought they were just brushing off my complaints with standard excuses but after taking up their suggestion it turned out to be true.

Connecting with PPTP/L2TP, my speeds with Maxis despite with SG servers close by my speed somehow was only capped to 4Mbps with extremely high ping rates. Using their new stealth customized solution, immediately like applied lubricant full speed even to servers as far away as Iceland and South Africa. Everything just pushes through without any slowdowns felt.

I believe there's a silent war going on within our ISPs and datacentres now.

M247 is only good in EU to use. not recommended for using in ASIA or USA due their routing path are not so working well and certain network you get high latency due to their routing path.

mullvad only have M247 for their SG location which is too bad no other choice to choose others provider.

unifi down speed for M247-SG hardly get full speed and i always avoid using them.

I just sent them traceroute dumps of my IP (while disconnected from their VPN) to their SG WireGuard (the protocol I use) servers. It seems a couple of other users in the region have had similar complaints.

They said they'll get M247 to switch transit/peering providers on 2 of their SG WireGuard servers (out of total 4) to my ISP and told me to see if there's any improvement. They said they've done so in the past as well for SG. Current transit and peering capabilities for M247-SG servers are Telia, PCCW, China Mobile International & Tata Communications.

Problem is, those traceroutes were done when performance recovered. I'll need to send another dump if/when performance degrades again.

At the moment they can only offer M247 for SG. They (Mullvad) claim Leaseweb used to give headaches because of their (Leaseweb's) abuse system and nullrouting exit IPs due to DMCA issues, etc.

Will wait and see how it goes.

The problem is TM upload the packet thru PCCW HK then to PCCW SG back to M247. But download packet from M247 are from Equinix SG back to TM which is not a balancing path.

hope to see some improvement on M247, today i check that M247have added 10Gbps port to Equinix SG.

is good for them use IP-transit other then Equinix peering due to M247 only having in total 20Gbps which previously only 10Gbps with Equinix which is insufficient at all.

but still Leaseweb are better then M247 in my opinion in terms of routing if using around US and ASIA.

I've moved away from M247 to another provider since. No more issues until now so far.
There are so many other SG based ISPs that are far more dependable.

CDN77, Stackpath (Highwinds) and 8 to Infinity SG (Telin International Group)

IPVanish and Golden Frog VyperVPN uses Stackpath servers.

hi guys,
need your advice, i have a very basic understanding of VPN.
I am using u-m@bile unlimited plan and recently i got asked to work from home. I do not have un1fi because i live alone/seldom at home previously.
Dont intend to suscribe back un1fi again, thinking of cutting cost during this difficult period.

I am downloading like 1kb/s per torrent only. If i can hit like 500kb/sec for overall throttling will be awesome enough for me.

Which vpn should i use to avoid the trottling from u-m@bile?

10mb.
I am using sim router to broadcast to my own phone (i usually use whatsapp only) and my pc for work & some dls.
I know not too ideal to use mobile data to use vpn but it will be overkill for me to sign up for un1fi again with contract, then when mco ends, that un1fi will be white elephant once more, waste of money.
I dont mind shitting speed like 500kb for t@rrenting

Is that remote desktop?
It is impossible for normal user to hit more than 1gbps,as your pc and your router and the btu does not support more than 1gbps... (Of course newer pc got 2.5g port, but still the same theory BTU does not support 2.5G port)

Could it be the VPN has certain encryption that makes the bandwidth reading invalid?

One way to test it is to perform download a big file with and without vpn to compare, if indeed with vpn the download speed is faster?

Just suggesting la...

For a more accurate reading, run another network monitoring app at the same time you run the speedtest. Since it's a company issued device you're probably restricted when it comes to installing applications, but I think your OS should have it's own. I assume yours is a Windows laptop, so probably somewhere in the task manager or system monitor (sorry, I don't use Windows) there should be a wifi/network tab. Get the reading for the interface your company VPN uses.

NordVPN is the current best vpn selection for me.
It had more server than most vpn provider at a specific location.
Example singapore had 40+ server, but most other vpn provider only have 1-4 server at singapore.

you should time it and/or use network monitor to monitor the speed.

say a 10G file or something and time it with vpn and without.

Is SurfShark any good? I am looking for a VPN that

1- allows torrenting (and with no loss in speed)
2- allows me to set the 'Country' for the IP address
3- support multiple device (for the same package i.e. no need to buy diff package)

I use NordVPN but when my free trial is up I am planning on trying out some other ones on this list which might be better for streaming. I thought it could be useful for you too thumbsup.gif

I use Surfshark as my main VPN..been using it for around three years now. Can torrent (but at speeds slower than without VPN), can choose country, can run on almost all devices with unlimited simultaneous connections.

So far, streaming Netflix is also ok, haven't encountered a region it cannot unblock yet.

I prefer NordVPN, but it's more expensive than Surfshark, and the performance is the same..just that I feel NordVPN's app quality is a bit better.

If you subscribe to the original from Surfshark, you won't face this problem. I can connect to any region of Netflix at full speed on WireGuard.

I've some worries now using VPN. Even with NordVPN calling itself the best VPN out there, the most reliable number 1 rated VPN charging a premium.
I checked their Tier-1 server hosting providers such as GSL Networks and Gigabit Hosting Sdn. Bhd. which are peering with surveillance companies such as Defense Australia.

How do you claim privacy when you have police agencies peering with your VPN provider servers?

https://bgp.he.net/AS55720#_peers

It seems Australia is attempting to play police again with Asia.
