Hardpack, gravel, sandy, wet. With a F850GSA and 900 Rally Pro. Both highly capable off road ADVs with 21inch front wheels and more aggresive adv tyres.

The reason I also suspected engine oil is that it is the Monday after the weekend when I did the oil change that this happened, and after a couple of battery changes it is still happening (sure, could also be lousy batteries).

please check the charging voltage of your bike

my personal experiences:
- stator failure - a combination of old rectifier design (high charging voltage) and prematurely killing the gel battery
- socket failure - losing 0.2V of charging voltage, from 13.9V going to 13.7V (yes, it is that sensitive). out of the 3 phase stator to rectifier socket, 1 failed due to oxidation, leading to overheat and would've been worse if I had left it undiagnosed
