Even my 10G hdd put into external 2.5" enclosure works like a charm.

This is one of the reason that slim PS2 sucks. The fat one has better compatibility.

Just got myself a Kingston 2Gbyte Mini Migo Data Traveller yesterday, went back at home plugged it into my PS2. Boot up my PS2 straight to uLE 4.12 (by holding R1 during powering up), bam...it detected the new thumb drive and copied GOWII save game data with no problem.

Then boot my PS2 back again straight to SMS ver2.0 rev4 (by holding R2 during powering up) and it detected also the new thumb drive and watched PB-S2 E21 until the end with no problems....

why holding R1 and R2?

It's one of the Matrix Infinity features where you can directly boot 3 elfs/homebrews directly from the memory card while holding these buttons (R1,R2 and L2) during powering up the PS2 :-

R1=BOOT.ELF
R2=BOOT2.ELF
L2=BOOT3.ELF

So in my case my uLE 4.05 is BOOT.ELF, SMS2Rev4 is BOOT2.ELF and uLE 4.12 is BOOT3.ELF.
