echo, was it difficult to install your new pickups? any serious risks?
*
well, i'm not echobrain, but i think i'll answer this, if he don't mind.

as long as there's no problem with fitting, it should be easy. let's just say, it's easier than soldering your own circuit board. no serious risk as long as you are careful. but if you are not experience in wiring, then things can get a little messy.

the hard part is making sure all the circuitries are correct.

^ if you're planning to change gauge, better set it up with the new gauge. otherwise you'll end up repeating the process. .10 may require a wee bit more bow for more relieve.

btw, did you measure according to gibson spec, not all neck bows the same. some may bow at the 12th fret, some may start at the 9th.

Ibanez RG350EX suitable 4 beginner o not?n how da price?
*
if you're willing to spend hours to learn how to properly set a floyd rose type bridge, then go ahead and buy it. it's a good investment if you're willing to spend the time. price around 1.5k-1.6k last i checked.

i'm trying to increase my downstroke stamina because i wanna play master of puppets with only downstrokes tongue.gif at least for the opening verse haha.

my timing always runs if i use alternate, no control over the upstroke. plan to rectify the probs one by one.

but i wanna play with downstrokes tongue.gif
*
just play the intro riff on and on. start of slow. at one point you sure gonna get it. just remember that accuracy is more important than speed.

i 'm actually playing it with alternate now biggrin.gif. too lazy to downstroke sometimes. more tone with alternate and can even go faster too. it's more into flexibility of the wrist. it's actually easier to get better downstroke by playing rhythm riff of creeping death 1st. then you'll be able to get master's riff easily. battery is another matter, since it's not really full of downstroke.

train in on the wrist, not your forearm, that way you won't get tired easily with all the downstrokes.

i play master of puppets with all downstrokes, never tried it with alternate blink.gif
sounds heavier that way

i play it with downstroke too. but i like it more with alternate since there's more tone. i play it with alternate on my acoustic guitar, so sometimes just be lazy by playing it with alternate on electric too. laugh.gif .

the first part is easier to play all downstrokes than the second part lah! at least to me laugh.gif i mean, it's not all that difficult, just that my hand tires out once I repeat that thing twice laugh.gif
the sliding part's easy, and I use alternate picking for the 'chug-chug-chug' part. makes things hell lotta less tiring laugh.gif

I guess I just have to build up stamina, haha. Master of Puppets only deserves to be played with downstrokes! tongue.gif
*
as i said. if you use only your wrist(only a little forearm movement). it will be less tiring. besides 'master of puppets' is an easy song compared to 'blackend' and 'battery'. the only hard part is actually getting a consistent downstroke, and that can only be achieved with practice, like many other things.

will a 9v 1Amp fry my DS-2 which is rated at maybe 200mA???

Because i found 1 adapter under my bed which used to power my creative speakers....but the problem with it that it is rated 9v 1A and not 200mA
*
provided it has the same polarity, i think it's ok. tempted to try this, but don't wanna destroy my MT-2 laugh.gif. got a few unused network equipment adapter (9v/1A) in the office.

@sweettooth:

mids makes a whole lot of difference in tone. IIRC, you're a hardcore metallica fan, then you'll need the mids since the 'tallica boys actually use mids in their live tone. that's why their tone is crunchier in live performance, not too scooped. as i read in a guitar world issue some years ago, hammet turns the bass up to the point where the amp can handle it, adjust his treble to balance out, and put the mids on.

MT-2 don't have enough gain? shocking.gif

with MT-2 its possible to get a zakk type sound, but slash its gonna be abit hard.
*
never really checked ZW's sound, but MT-2 can mimic slash given you're using a warm sounding guitar. just reduce the gain and play around with mid and mid-freq. i can mimic it on my tb15r, mt2 and shadow eq5. i believe it'll be easier of course to do it with a les paul type. just don't try it with single coils sweat.gif .

just remember, MT-2 is not DS-1.

i agree with rossie. at high volume, MT-2 will loose the slash's tone. but then again, if you are performing, you should be better equipped.

you mean the 80's movie?

definitely. never get tired of hearing it. old fashion rock n roll at its best. really love "dare" and "transformers theme". really cool riff.

most of the times most stores won't let you try stuff.... but try asking questions that puzzles them.... for guitar i usually asks them if the amp is all tube or not... types of tube... technical stuff u know.... as if you're a pro... especially look for those salesperson who's like really don't know anything... then just start picking up stuff and play and they'll let u... at least for a while...

but still... it sucks when u just hold a guitar neck and the guy comes saying "YESSSS... CAN I HELP YOU?"

i was in the US before and i played a gibson standard LP through a double stack JCM800 and later with a marshall heartbreaker... and i didn't buy thing... and the sales person just smiled and said 'do come again man'...
*
i think this is due to our music stores actually are selling those displayed unit. so they don't want too many hands touching it. they really should have some demo unit for people to test on. people are spending thousands, but we can't fully test the stuff. we can't even compare stuff. unless of course you're a regular.

a question:

how do you judge that your guitar needs a fret job aka refretting?

frets worn in, grooves or flat areas on the frets below the strings... and as a result you may experience fret buzz, or not smooth string bending. may just need a recrown first.
if its really worn in deep, or has already been recrowned, then you may need a refret already.
*
recrown is not the same as refret? what are the difference?

currently no apparent buzzing, still ok for >10years old guitar. the fret is a bit flat though. is that ok?

thanks

recrown is when you have grooves in the fret, but your frets are still tall enough and grooves not deep enough, that you can file those grooves away and shape the fret again.
your frets will of cos end up slightly lower, but still feel brand new.
*
ahhh...that clears things up a bit. thanks. so refret is when i can no longer recrown. in refret, they'll replace all the fret metal piece with new one right? suddenly became interested in the process. any links on it anyone?

of cos new ones la.
where can recycle used frets tongue.gif

and no, you cant DIY unless you got loads of experience.

usual rates for a recrown is RM150-180.
refret can reach up to RM300+ or more for a real good job.
*
of cause la new one sweat.gif .

and i'm not that crazy to try this kind of things. just curiousity of how it's done, when the time comes for me to have it done, i know what to expect. i like to figure out how a guitar works than figure out how to play it laugh.gif.

so what about finger board, it can be replace too right? they'd just replace the freboard over the neck.

ps: yes i'm board at work and waiting for 1730 biggrin.gif.
