There is no support for 1080p component for Dell 2407WPS A04, I think. The scaler for the monitor is a little selective and does not seem to allow for it, so DVI might be your only option for 1080p resolution.

Oh btw, am assuming you are using Dell 2407WPS from your sig, so am a little puzzled how you can connect to the monitor using HDMI? Or are you using the Benq FP241WZ/ FP241VW?

What is the fuss about 1080P?  Honestly I don't think anyone can tell the difference between 1080P and 720P on monitor sizes below 50".  And if there is any differences between 1080P, it would be so small that you would really have to go so close and examine it pixel by pixel to see it. 

So it is really not justifiable to buy a 1080P monitor or Tv just for 1080P due to the steep price of 1080P set.  I would rather go for a 720P set with larger screen and still have have some more money to buy a XBOX360.  In the end its about playing games and not trying to examine closely to see a little bit of graphic improvement.
