I'm in Seoul now, all shops that I went accept AmEx without me checking in advance. I gave my card and they swiped, less than 5s, slip printed and transaction is done.

No PIN, no signature but not Wave, just swipe. A bit dangerous but I find it convenient, however being in Seoul I'm not so much worried.

Lots of the more advance countries accepts CC as a better form of payment because they don't have to be scared to be robbed.
