Hi guys, what happen if they detect certain health issues (high bp, etc) during medical checkup? Will they still honor the job offer? Because during that time I would've already resigned from the current company. Thanks.

They will still accept you. Don't worry.

Thanks bro. I had a Technical Assessment and SI both on the same day as they need somebody for the position urgently. Came out exhausted but overall satisfied (I've done better with Shell though).

They're kind of look warily when they see my expected salary. Anyone has any idea what to expect of Petronas' offer of a 10-year experience in geoscience? Without factoring my current salary as I know they sometimes offer lower than current as if the have their own scale to refer.

Thanks for the reply bro. My asking salary is in that range, just 33% from my current. I hope I'll get something close, if they decide to offer me the job of course. smile.gif

bro, this comes from personal experience or just hear say?I find it quite low for someone with 10 years experience in petroleum/geoscience.....

If this is true,I wonder how Petronas attract or retain their technical staff
*
Unless I'm looking at S. Aramco and such, that range is acceptable for me. A senior of mine with 15 years of experience only managed to get 25k and she's a direct hire (permanent would be much lower). So 15-20k is reasonable for me if it's a permanent position in our own NOC. I've been with service companies long enough now I'm looking to settle down.

Believe it or not last year Shell only offered me 12k and asked me to relocate to Miri. Didn't think long to reject that.

10 years experience, you'd be looking at 12-15K salary in Petronas assuming you managed to get the Staff Geologist position (E3). I believe the starting salary for E3 is around 12K for Staff geologist.

I'm still contemplating an offer from a company in Miri (have to relocate there), basic salary is a bit small (30K) but the signing on and retention package is interesting (approx. 560K) ... Miri is going to be a problem though.
*
Thanks bro. Considering having to move my family over there, I would go if the offer is attractive enough.

I guess have to expect a little lower than I asked. Actually I'm fine even with 10% increment from my current, just trying my luck. I'm quite happy just to finally be in Petronas.

The SM that interviewed me said they need to fill up this position very urgently, to an extent that they did both TA & SI in one afternoon. But HR just call me yesterday that the offer letter will only be ready a month from now, I guess HR understands the word "urgent" differently.

no.. they mentioned somethng about training in bintulu for 1 year plus first.. then will be stationed at kk?
i have no problem with these relocation thng.. i just want some opinion on these FLNG, does it have a good prospect.?

and also they already send me mail asking me to do medical checkup, am i consider in? can i tender my current job now or better i wait for the offer letter 1st?
*
Wait for the offer letter first bro. My friend resigned once he got that email, but turned out to only started working 4 months later. He was unemployed for 2 months.

I see different people were processed differently. How long you waited since the SI until you get the email for medical checkup?

Wow 4 months~ SI was on 15th and the email came in on 22nd.. ngam2 1 week after the SI.. guess I better take ur advise and play safe.. thanks bro..
*
Your case might be different, but yes better be safe. They already know your availability so it's best to wait for the offer letter.

I see they process yours very quickly. So they asked you to do medical checkup in that email on the 22nd? Or is there a separate email after that?

I attended the SI on 8th and on 16th I got an official email saying that I passed the SI and that now they're preparing my employment pack, no mention of medical checkup yet. It has been quiet since then.

I'm a geologist will be based in KLCC, to be attached to a new department under PMU. I wonder why they didn't ask me for medical checkup yet. They really handle things differently from person to person, your case proves that they can process it very quicky if they want to.

Just replied to HR's email to find out my status. Guess what, received an auto-reply, she's on long leave until Feb 4. I guess handing over tasks to colleagues is not necessary for their HR. tongue.gif

That's all I need to know. I'm fine waiting as long as I know what's going on and can schedule my travels accordingly.

Hi guys, I am new to this forum. Promised myself that I will post in this forum once I have gotten my Petronas job. Gotten the offer letter from HR about a week ago.

Just to sum up on how long the process takes from the first phone call I received to the offer letter, kindly refer below:

Technical Assessment / Phone interview = Mid of October 2012
SI call up = 20th December 2012
Medical Check up e-mail  received = 16th January 2013
Offer letter received via e-mail = 21st January 2013
Physical offer letter received = 24th January 2013

Well, that sums up folks. =)
*
Thanks bro, appreciate that. It took just 5 days from medical checkup email to offer letter email, it was very quick getting the checkup results. When did you actually do the medical checkup?

Cool.  Its just a promise I made to myself to share with you guys once I got the job. I did the medical check up on the 17th of Jan and submitted the medical report to HR on the 18th. Hahaha.. well, talk about efficiency. =)
*
No doubt they're impressed with your efficiency even before you begin working. thumbup.gif

You did the checkup at PCMC? Did it take all day long so I have to take a full day leave? By the way, you're going in as a fresh graduate or experienced?

Sorry to bombard you with all these questions, I just have to get myself prepared, really that's me. smile.gif

I did the medical check up in Pusrawi. Took them about 4 to 5 hours to do the full medical examination together with the doctor's conclusion on my overall health. So, I guess a half day leave would suffice if you are planning to do your medical check up. I am an experienced hire by the way.  nod.gif

Thanks a lot bro! I'm going in as an experienced too. Hopefully they'll call for medical checkup soon.

Finally received an email for medical checkup at PCMC. But I just noticed that strangely, in the letter it says "Work Environment: Office & Offshore Platform".

My job description as told during interview doesn't require me to go offshore. I know the team that I will be placed in, the type of work they're doing, it's office based and definitely non of them ever gone offshore since 10 years that I've known them.

So is this normal? Because of my geoscience background? If yes then it's okay. I'm just worried that they misplaced me with other department. I was hand picked by the Senior Manager for this job so they did not call me for interview for a random position. The appointment at PCMC is tomorrow morning I can't call them to confirm, just noticed this just now.

As a Geoscientist, you will be required to go offshore once in a while to observe drilling. You expect servicing company to do that?? Go and analyze data yourself lerrr
*
Bro, did you read my post? With all due respect, I'm a geologist and I have been in the industry for more than 10 years, I know how it works. I've been going offshore in my early years. But I'm not going in as a geoscientist, the more senior you get, the wider your scope to be in. I've done various works, geophysicist, geomodeler, consultant, even a system engineer. I don't want to go into details, but I can assure you that I won't ever go offshore with this position. The oil & gas industry is big, really big.

I'm familiar with Petronas, just not with their HR.

Thanks for your kind reply.

Really strange, done the medical checkup 2 weeks ago and then everything's quiet, our forum member here recently mentioned he received the offer letter the next business day after the medical result was submitted. I was never contacted for any discussion about the details of employment, salary, etc.

In your experience guys, how long did you have to wait after medical checkup to get your offer letter?

It's really difficult for me, this time of the year my current company keep giving me tasks and travel schedules, but I have no choice but to accept. It will give them a lot of troubles the longer I wait to tender my resignation. As soon as I resigned they can plan it around my notice period.

oh, I would like to share my experience here.

around mid of december 2012, I went for SI (I'm a PETRONAS scholar)
SI result was out around 31st January 2013 (Gotta wait till our final examination result came out)
a week later, 7th February (if Im not mistaken) received a phone call for placement from PETRONAS. (like chitchat session or something)
I was told that the medical check up letter will be emailed after chinese new year.
Due to some graduation problem I received the medical check up letter a bit late than as told. But not that late la. I received it last Monday. (On previous Friday they called me to inform on the kelewatan)

And yesterday I went to PUSRAWI, do all the medical checkup and stuff. At around 3 I sent the result to HRM at KLCC.
And early this morning, I received the offer letter through email (so fast meh! I was so surprised, (iyalah, after reading through this thread))

Oh the conclusion is, I guess HR PETRONAS is not that slow.
Plus if I'm not mistaken, different OPU has their own different HR.

I'll be reporting for duty this coming 1st, March.

and my PIPE will start on 18th March. biggrin.gif

p/s:  drool.gif pretty excited to start working at PETRONAS. I'm looking for any kind of guidances and experiences from all of you here.  icon_idea.gif  Thank you!

Can I know who from HR handled your employment? Kindly PM me. Thanks.

I'm sure all of us contacted them to follow up, but always they will tell you to wait. Otherwise we wouldn't be so anxious.

See, it's not that they're slow, but how inconsistent their process is. For some the whole process takes less than 2 weeks, with some even getting the offer letter the next day after submitting the medical result. While in my case, which my future boss told me that is very urgent (to the extent that he arranged to have both technical assessment & SI in one afternoon), took months, now it has been two weeks since my medical result submitted still told to wait. Given the very long time taken for them to send me for medical, I thought they already have the offer letter ready (which I guess is the case to our member bananapotato above).

Congrats bro. Medical checkup means you can consider yourself hired already (unless there is medical issues of course).

I'm delaying my join date to June/July, I can only tender my resignation notice in April because of personal issues. One thing for sure, their HR (at least the one I'm dealing with) is very arrogant and very hard to discuss with. Always cut of my questions and what I was trying to say. She has no respect, almost rude. It doesn't hurt to be polite, I congratulated her that she just came back from marriage but she just ignores it. Young people now just makes me sad. shakehead.gif

that bold part really take my interest, since the HR who was dealing with with also just come back from marriage...so i assume we deal with the same HR personnel...i'm going to do my medical check up tomorrow, and hopefully can submit my result on the same date...

Should be the same person. You'll find talking on the phone with her would be like talking to a boss, but if you don't have any issue and follows every procedure then I think it would be okay. My case was a little unusual because of the delay so a lot more discussions and negotiations involved.

Yes, no names. If anybody can figure out who then just keep it to heart. smile.gif
