I have been considering if I should be getting a Nintendo Switch, and would like to hear what can I expect from this gaming console?

A little of my gaming history. I never have been a console gamer. I never owned any playstation/xbox console in my life. The only one I ever owned probably is the NES classic from 30 years ago whistling.gif growing up playing games like super mario bros n tetris.
Ever since then, I have been a PC gamer, starting with Diablo, Starcraft, Halflife, Skyrim, Counter strike etc. Now I am only a casual gamer, occasionally playing some game like GTAV, COD, CS GO. But because my job nature requires me to work from my pc computer/laptop long hours, I found myself staying away from computer whenever I am OFF from work. Therefore I no longer do any serious gaming on computer, even though my pc hardware easily can support the latest triple As games.

My wife is currently pregnant and I am planning to spend more time with her in the living room, instead of separate myself in my home office. The idea of getting a living room gaming console cross my mind recently. Even though I may be gaming, but being physically there by her side should be better than not being there. She will be playing with her phone & swiping insta/fb/game anyway. She will nag me, if I play pc game in my office room... online competitive game like CSGO can never be played with her around. She will constantly come and kacau me until I get killed and given up totally rclxub.gif .

When considering gaming console, the only thing that comes to my mind is PS4. I think because of the more serious type of games available. I believe I am a more "visual" kind of guy, and good graphic always catch my attention first. I really wish to play games like The Last of Us, and Red Dead Redemption with amazing graphic on my tv. But after few days of careful consideration, I realised maybe that is just what I Think I want. Maybe it is not such a good idea to be so focus on such serious game, even when I am with my wife in the living room. Maybe is not a good idea to play such gore, and violent games on a big living room tv, with a pregnant lady whistling.gif . She is quite timid when comes to these sweat.gif

Yesterday my wife mentioning bout those classic super mario games, pacman (probably the only games she ever played), which she is quite fond of (which girls dont like cute characters?). She asked me if "is there any more super mario game nowadays?", which I explained to her Mario is a game/character that is Nintendo exclusive. That trigger something in me, reminding me of the latest console by Nintendo Switch released 2 years ago... with very interesting playing options. I went ahead to look for all the reviews of this console and try to understand as much as I can. I feel the concept is more family orientated (not sure bout it in actual execution)

Part of me wants to try PS4 (more serious gaming), but part of me feels Nintendo Switch could be a less "selfish" choice (more casual, wife can join and play occasionally, she may even enjoy watching all the cute graphic). I could be wrong, maybe I am at age stage where I couldnt be a serious gamer anymore.

I will to hear comments & advice if I should go for Nintendo, especially coming from people who have owned both the nintendo & ps4 or even pc. Will I be bored and regret with Nintendo limited games choices? I understand a good game doesnt necessary comes from the best graphic, but good graphic simply make people want to play the game in the first place these days. I feel games from Nintendo are those which you won't find it interesting, until you start playing it, and you are hooked. Good example like mobile CandyCrush sweat.gif , it doesn't attract me at all. I only start playing to try out why everyone is crazy about this game. Then I find myself spending long hours playing it. Maybe I find myself too old/lazy to learn new complicated games.. aiks.

What do you guys say? Should I join the Switch Community? unsure.gif

yes! that's the reason why I got switch yesterday. My wife is also interested in playing mario games and that's what I do. You can also spend more time at your living room to play mario with your wife as it's playable up to 4 players. That's one of the pros you can consider in buying the nintendo switch.

It feels assuring to hear that from someone in the similar situation 😁. How do you find? Correct decision to go for Switch?

Trust me. Get a Switch. Your wife will love you more. Nowadays i am too lazy to play stressful realistic graphics game. My PS4 seldom turn on. PC totally abandoned, eventhough still powerful enough to play current games.

Besides, with kid coming, in 5 years time you will all be playing together.

Recommended games to play with wife(the more the merrier, get some friends and family to join as well).
Overcooked 1 or 2
Snipper Clips
Mario Party
Mario Kart 8

You can start with these, will last a long time already.

πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» Good to hear from someone who owns both PS4 n switch (& PC). I’m hoping to get back to appreciating good gameplay, and not just focusing on Graphic.

Btw, what are the games that will make use of the controller, like wii , playing tennis etc ? Something requiring more physical movement.. trying to justify myself from not turning into a couch potato after buying the Switch πŸ˜‚

I think Mario Party is a bit physical.

Others physical like ARMS and maybe Mario Tennis (i think, not sure about this one).

I read it all. Word by word. LOL. I just got my Switch less than a week ago. I have been a Sony exclusive guy, owning all gens since original Playstation.

But I gotta say, I love it and quite enjoying the experience. My wife loves it coz Im not caved up in my room. Im outside just enjoying my game while she is watching TV or what not. However, I just started playing SSBU and no other games yet so I cant really give a better review and I do find the controls a bit awkward but thats due to I have been playing Sony controllers since 97. A positive note, my wife was shocked that I was actually playing a console game, mainly due to Im not shouting vulgar language at my screen. Lol. I mean SSBU is a fun time wasting game.

I also tried to get my wife to join me in SSBU, she looked at the game, then to me, then laughed and continued her TV drama. Guess she aint a gamer. Hahaha. But my kids doesnt like it much, as per my eldest girl, the pictures doesnt look nice and she is constanly asking why I dont play ugly dinosaur on my big TV (PS4 Monster Hunter World). Kids comparing SSBU to Monster Hunter World. Hahaha.

Haha thanks for reading my essay πŸ“–! Wasn’t aware of how long I have written until I am done writing. Is too easy to just type away with keyboard . Lol .

Look like kids nowadays get mature really fast! πŸ˜† no longer same as our old generation when we r kids , playing mario and other kiddy games

I have  introduced my 10 years old back then to the Wii U, he loves Super Mario 3D world and we completed it together. Today he prefers the Switch over the PS4. Play weird games like Delta Rune...lol.

Anyway, i recommend you to get this PDP Smashbros Controller for SSBU, it really makes a difference. I have 2 of those. You can also get a Mayflash adapter, this will allows you to hook up to almost any controllers...from PS4 to XBox360 to Wii U etc. So you can use back some of your other controllers, including wired USB type. The PS4 controller is 100% compatible and even supports gyro.

I may need to try out the switch joycon first, before investing on all the accessories. I know that reviews saying that the pro controller is like a must, but I wouldnt want to spend so much money on it before I know this is a system to keep for long term. whistling.gif

Is there any free games that comes with the Switch console? Are those classic NES games , Tetris 99 , fortnite free out from the box? or I need to subscribe for their yearly online pass or something? I just wish to have something to play with , before building up the proper game collection.

Hi Guys, just purchased my Nintendo Switch Finally. I will like to link to online and try out the "free" nec classic game... but it says eshop is not available in my country. Do I need to select US? And will there be any issue with CC payment later on?

Yeah most select US region. eShop of any region accepts our credit card just fine. There shouldn't be much of a problem.
*
Thanks! I have set my eshop region as US Alaska sweat.gif Hopefully there is not tax from there. I make payment using the Paypal

Yes. Set to US. No issue with CC. Nintendo wants your money.

You can create a few more accounts. Set one account to Mexico and Russia eshop each. Lots of indie games are cheaper there.

Will it be very confusing and hard to manage, if I have multiple eshop accounts on my switch, like will there be any issue where certain game bought only by eshop A only available for the User A in my switch, and User B cannot access it? I am still trying to understand the local users, vs Nintendo Account Vs eshop account.

What I try to achieve is having 2 users in my switch. User 1 will b myself, where i purchase all the games and have my save games. User 2 will b my wife, who only needs to play the games I bought, and have her own save games ( no need for nintendo acc or eshop acc) ... Is this possible?
