the pups r about 2 weeks old d..
haven open their eyes yet..wonder y so long..

she doesnt wanna see the pups like its none of her business. we tried 2 tie her there a while n she was like barking the roof down..

will try putting bricks around the house. its half feet from the ground. owez put something soft near the entrance, in case the baby rolls down..

ya we did clean da genital areas and anus cos Taz will sometimes carry 1 puppy somewhere elz to hide, den bring the puppy bac 2 da house again.. sometimes it nearly stop my mom's heart after counting 1234.. n there;s the number 5 missing.. clean the areas wif a lil warm water + wet tissue for dogs. feeding them every 3hours cos they're oni taking like about 3-4ml each pup. sked dat it may not b enuf cos they cry every 2 hours when they're hungry.
*
3 to 4ml? They should take as much milk as they can... if they do not want, they will turn away. Do you let them drink till enough or just ration 3 to 4ml to each pup? A chihuahua pup which is 1 week old takes 14ml of milk a day....at 2 weeks it will take 18ml of milk a day.... so chihuahua is smaller, so I bet Taz's pups needs a bit more... Go for 5ml each time if possible. Also, what brand of milk are they taking?

Some puppies open their eyes at 10 days old, some till 17 days old.

i also got train FIFI sit and wait before makan.
Everytime i put the bowl down, she'll guai guai sit there until i touch her head, then only she'll go makan.
I forget that i read some where regarding this training, is for them to know that u r in charge of the food, means u r the leader for them.......
*
Your Fifi won't drool? Hahahah.... coz I also train my dogs to stay before eating....

All my dogs, sit first then I make hand sign for stay..... then put the bowl of food down.... my dogs will look at me then start to drool like water fall till I feel kesian then I say OK and touch their heads hahaah.... it's really funny to see my lab drool.

But what you said is right. It teaches the dog that you are in charge, you are alpha and they must obey you.

digitral, how do you brush their teeth with baking soda ?? Mind to share? tongue.gif.  I tried using a piece of cloth like wud crazymouse said .. soak with diluted baking soda .. but it didn't really work.  His teeth got a bit of tartar built up liao..  So, how do u wash them?
*
Tartar build up takes a few weeks to become hard and yellow.... You started the baking soda when? Also, did you apply pressure? Since it is not a brush, you really have to scrub the teeth and gums with the cloth. The baking soda solution cannot be too diluted.... it has to make the water creamy but don't make it into a paste lah coz if you taste baking soda, it is salty coz sodium. You do not want your Hepy to swallow baking soda cream. Since got tartar already, you will have to let Hepy chew some raw bones to clean the teeth.... also, tartar buildup is from taking soft or chewy foods. Another way of cleaning the tartar out is by using a dental fork and scrapping it out.

Dogs cannot gargle or spit... that is why you cannot use human toothpaste coz the toothpaste we use contains fluoride... a young child if swallows a small tube of tooth paste can die.... so imagine if a dog.... fluoride is poisonous, that is why we humans must gargle and spit out but dogs can't do that.

i c .. i use a piece of cloth and i started about one week ago.  I didn't rub it very hard coz I thot i might hurt his gums, etc.  I think i'll get kid's toothbrush too.  And I made the solution watery .. not creamy.  No wonder it doesn't show any effect... hehehe.  I dun give Hepy any wetfood.  I think he got the tartar from chew sticks .. hehe.  Will reduce those and get him a nylon bone instead.
*
Ahh... I see.... well, kid's toothbrush also works well and the cost is like Rm4... well, still ok for our pockets tongue.gif You no need to worry about hurting the teeth.... they can chew bones, so brushing their teeth with a little pressure is ok lah. Just make the solution a slight creamy colour but remember not into a paste ah...

Those chew sticks do cause tartar build up.... I noticed that with my Chelsea last time.... now, she only got a bit of tartar coz it was from last time but no bad breath. Will bring her for teeth cleaning at the vet if it starts to smell.... but so far her mouth is clean and nice smile.gif

My puppy doesn't want to eat his dog food instead he's been stealing my cat's food. However he especially likes tin food. Shall I switch to soft food for him?  icon_question.gif
*
Dogs will always like catfood coz catfood has more added flavourings. Dogs can taste even the mildest of flavour but cats are picky eaters and will only eat food that is great in taste. So manufacturers put in more flavourings, that is why dogs like catfood but don't feed it ah.... keep it away. The nutritions in cat food is very different from dog food.

Do not switch to soft foods... it's like digging a grave for the teeth liao hahahah..... soft foods are always tasty and palatable than dry food but then the soft food doesn't exercise the teeth and gums, it won't help with the mouth muscles. Soft foods will cause bad breath as well. The teeth can become weak and drop off before old age....

Your puppy wants tastier food lah.... switch to Orijen lah.... high protein and palatable for picky dogs since Chelsea finishes it and she is a picky dogfood eater. Science Diet taste like dry cream crackers.... Orijen taste like dry biscuits but with a strong meaty smell and has a meat aftertaste.

Or you can always try feeding BARF... a raw diet.... raw meat and raw bones won't cause tartar build up and will keep the teeth clean and healthy and all dogs love raw meat and raw bones. But your pup still young.... so.... it is still better to feed a high quality dogfood product.

wanted 2 ask bout da BARF thingy Hun..
can i mix kibbles into da BARF diet b4 changing it to 100% BARF?
so far wats da best BARF diet u've tried on Chelsea?
*
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=306967&hl=BARF

Yes, you will have to slowly change. For now, introduce Raw chicken bones first to your Jack Jack and Xun Xun.... for me ah, BARF easy coz my frien'd shop Pet Epicure produce ready to use BARF diet.... 1 day 1 block.... then 1 block is 100g and 1 day only eat 1 to 2 blocks.... cheap also lah since 1 block only cost RM1 but you must have a big freezer... I stopped coz no space in freezer... You can make your own too.... Normally BARF diet contains raw bones the most.... then some raw meat, intro some of the internal parts too but a bit only. You can give liver, heart, kidney.... some people say the best internal organ is the green tripe but a bit hard to find here since all tripe are clean. Green tripe means straight from the cow, never wash or boil hahaah... sounds a bit gross I guess. Then you have to include vegetables too.... Must puree different vegies into a paste and mix with the raw foods.... you can include about 10 to 20% boiled rice too.... Read the thread I had linked, you can find useful info there.

QUOTE(hamster9 @ Jun 30 2007, 09:53 PM)
thanks. will look for Orijen.

At this moment, I'm mixing milk with dog food. She drinks all the milk and leave behind the dog food biscuits even tho it's already soft.

If Orijen doesn't works then I would have to take away her food after 10 minutes. Cruel to be kind.  flex.gif

Your puppy so young, sure wants all the milk first heheheh....

Well, teach your dear girl girl some discipline loh heheh.... must be stern abit.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Jun 30 2007, 11:53 PM)
You can get ORijen from White Palace. I bought from him too! I havent open my packet yet so I dont know if it would work for you.

Take up his bowl after 30 minutes he didnt eat. My dog has the same problem last week and this week, he's all well behaved now. Finish his food in 5 min each meal!
*
Your Casper now ok with his food? That's good to know tongue.gif

Weekends they close at 2pm... so it is better to get early lah. They are closed on Fridays. I like what they have, you can give variety also. Got chicken, lamb, duck.... I think fish too.... so far I have tried Chelsea on Chicken and lamb.... duck always no stock and the supply there quite fast finish sometimes.

I still haven't buy any chicken bone for hepy yet coz at the moment, bird's flu is so serious.  Don't wanna risk it tongue.gif.  Wait till it's over first, then i'll start getting chicken neck / claw for hepy too.

Crazymouse, do i give to him as a treat? Or how ar ?
*
True.... now got bird flu scare.... anyway, you can also use pork and lamb bones but I think too hard for Hepy since he has never chewed on raw bones before... it doesn't need to be a treat, you can feed it everyday 1 neck or 1 foot.

Im bringing my dog for a jab. she's 8 weeks old and im bringing her tomoro for her first jab.

anyone know any prefered vet that does this nicely?
*
Well, where is your location? Vaccination is one of the basic things every vet should know.... so it's pretty safe to do at any vet near your area.

Well, it is normally best for you to get advice from a vet about which vaccine.... The vet I go to does the 7 in 1 for my Chelsea but Toby and Tammy goes to another vet, which does 6 in 1.

6 in 1 vaccine is like the basic vaccination. It protects your dog from the most dangerous diseases. Doing a 6 in 1 is good enough.

7 in 1 is just the additional corona virus vaccine. It's a flu vaccine. Well, good to give this too if your dog goes to boarding often.

Now more and more dogs overseas especially are getting in contact with new viruses... so that is why got 9 in 1 and 10 in 1.... But the difference could be the amount of puppy jabs... I heard those doing 10 in 1 need to jab twice only during puppyhood and then followed by yearly.... but this I am not too sure, better check with your vet.

As far as I know, 6 in 1 is the most important and basic. The 7 in 1 is good too.... there is no need for the 9 in 1 or 10 in 1 yet but if you feel you would like to follow this, get a vet to advice first lah.

Well.... 7 in 1 is good enough... yes lah, the price will of course be higher.... the vaccine is actually injecting the killed virus into the body, it is not active to cause the disease in the dog, but it makes the body create antibodies.... this is why sometimes puppies become sick after vaccination.... but if the pup is sick before vaccination, better just do the 6 in 1 or 7 in 1... coz the higher ones means more killed virus is injected.... it may be too much for such a small body to handle when already weak.

Normally after vaccination, puppies and dogs will feel tired, sometimes unwell a bit. Some can develop fever but it is not fatal.... but if the fever last for long time, with vomiting and other weird symptoms, the pup or dog could be allergic to the vaccine but this is rare.

7 in 1 is good enough..... you see, 6 in 1 is the very basic that each dog must have to avoid the very very dangerous viruses.... if you can afford 10 in 1, then why not? But according to the vet I go to, which is Brickfield's vet, he said it is actually up to us but he feels that the 7 in 1 is good enough for it protects against major viruses.

RM20 as consultation fee is normal lah. RM20 for them is their profit to run their clinic.... RM50 is for the jab.... but if you paid RM50 for a 6 in 1 then it is over priced.

Neutered dogs won't mark but will still lift his leg to urinate if you neuter late. If neuter early like when it is 1 year old or before it lifts it's leg, then it won't really pee with the leg up in the future unless got female dog around.

Marking is by peeing with the leg up and pee a small puddle here, a small puddle there and everywhere that the dog wants to show his dominance and territory. Neutered dogs would pee in 1 place only.

My lab is spayed, my boxer is neutered.... can see difference in behaviour.
