Hi Guys,

I am looking for new tire, went to the tyre shop and they recommended the new continental ultracontact 6, the thread looks beautiful. The sales person claims that this new tyre is excellent in both wet and dry road condition, grip is good, and very quiet but no mention about handling i am afraid it will be too soft.

my tyre size is 225/55/R17, mitsubishi ASX.  They quote me RM428/pcs, is the price ok?

So all sifu-sifu here, anyone of you have ever tried this tyre? how is the performance? wet/dry grip, handling and noise level ok or not?

also, anyone can share what is the threadwear of this tyre?

I am currently using Toyo T1sport, but the performance was so-so only did not suprise me in anyway. Not very quiet or comfort and not very sporty. Previous used bridgestone re002 and gr100, t1sport's performance is somewhere in between these 2 model but the price is way above them.

FYI UC6 is only the 2nd LOWEST model from Continental, only above the shitty CC6! T1 Sport is actually not so good also but it will still be better performance than UC6 coz T1 Sport is at least already in the UHP category while UC6 is still just low end econo tire category. So yeah from there you can conclude yourself how is the performance of UC6. laugh.gif You want good performance tires from Continental then go for the CSC5, now that is a damn good tire but just be prepared to spend a lot more coz it's still made in Europe. If cannot afford that, then at least maybe get the newest MC6 which is a mid range model/entry level UHP or 1 level above the UC6.

Other choice I would recommend Goodyear F1D5, it's available for your size and it's a pretty good tire. I have used this tire before and pretty happy with them. The performance should be better than all your previous tires. The downsides of it are just a bit more noise especially as the tires get worn off, and it can have chipping quite a lot if you drive hard/aggressively but not detrimental to the performance or durability. This tire lasted about 50k km for me with occasional hard driving.

Yeah, I'm also still a bit skeptical that this new MC6 is really that good coz from the Continental global info, it's the CPC6 that is positioned to compete with PS4. However Continental Malaysia doesn't seem to have indication to bring in CPC6 here, and instead introduce the local MC6 while making the same claim. Anyway from the little info that I have read, it is a big improvement over the rather disappointing MC5, so it might be pretty good, just not sure how good yet exactly. I personally would rather go with Hankook V12 Evo2 or S1 Evo2 if want even cheaper yet already much more proven as pretty good UHP tires that perform close enough to those top tires.

For the V12 Evo2? That's very cheap as long as it's not too old tires.

In Hankook Malaysia website got. I've seen some cars used it before but pretty rare. I haven't really asked any Hankook shops though. Last time I asked it was like 3 or more years ago and they did not have, even the V12E2 still not yet back then. Here in mudah got this shop selling:

The seller sells the SUV range...but likely will have the sedan version around. Eagerly awaiting their latest product range refresh, seems to be lagging behind their european competitors.

I have been using UC6 for the past 3 months or so. Grip is ok on dry road but wet road still bearable for the price range. However the sidewall of this tire is EXTREMELY weak. I don't think UC stand for UltraContact, to be its more UselessContact. This will be my last time using this tire. Spoke to people at Conti, they agree that this tire compound is way too soft. He said to increase tire pressure, go above car manufacturer's tire pressure recommendation.

laugh.gif Absolutely agree! laugh.gif

As I've mentioned previously, this tire is just the 2nd lowest level of Continental models, hence no surprise it's lousy! biggrin.gif It's only designed for comfort & silence and not much else. Continental naming convention is always aimed at fooling the customers like this Ultra Contact and Max Contact which mislead customers to thinking that they're very high performance with superb grip while in fact those models are just low end to mid range with mediocre grip performance.

cheapest tyre is oscar tyre in kemuning, but some people not keen on their workmanship. i think if u can try to install there if u bought 4pcs since its free installation (B+A). later if youre not satisfied, just go to your preferable shop to do B+A. if 2 pcs, i suggest you buy there and install somewhere else.

I think CPC series is much better than this so call ULTRA CONTACT.
and UC6 only aim for asian market.
They don't dare to market in europe market.

Yup of course, CPC series is higher than UC. UC is just slightly better than CC series so only 2nd lowest model, while CPC is mid range borderline to UHP category. I'd even say CPC is also better than MC5!
