declaring income from uber/grab will cause their total income either from non taxable to taxable or from lower to higher tax bracket |

Non-sense. All income derived from Malaysia have to pay.
But did they eligible to contribute SOCSO?  Personally think that they shud cover under SOCSO too. |

many uber and grab drivers claim can easily earn more than RM5k per month, so it's only fair that they be subjected to income tax just like every one else

Probably govt will want to force Uber to host their server locally so that govt can have visibility on how much drivers are paid. Then it's just a matter of taxing Uber, after which Uber can direct potong from the drivers..
It's 'income' tax, after all. |
