I have been using Continental Premium Contact 2 for about 6,000+ kms now. they are sized 195/50/16 on a FWD car.
Pros: Good water dispersion (was driving through heavy standing water and though it slowed the car considerably, the car stayed pretty much true to its tracks and no aquaplanning) Good wet grip (no sudden loss of grip on the lighter rear end or front end of the car during sudden lane changes in heavy rain typical of the east coast) Good dry grip (so far no problems for me - hard to gauge though since its just daily driving and not full on red neck driving) Comfortable (sidewalls are not too stiff providing good bump absorbtion whilst maintaining good enough stiffness for spirited driving) Design (nice 4 stripes with premium look which is important for me haha) Cons Noise (not silent enough to warrant its "Premium" in the name) Wear (not as hardy as i want it to be - TW is at 280 only) Overall I would use these tires again when time comes for it to be replaced. However, do you guys have any suggested alternatives? preferably cheaper!! |

I'm on CPC2 195/50/16. After about 13,000 kms, i have lost confidence in high speed (well, i consider 160kmh on a sweeping righthand turn high speed). I was chasing a Carrera on that corner (losing of course) when i tapped on the brakes (not enough guts) when the car started swerving around like mad, nearly losing control and tyre screeching. I managed to catch a few of the swerves and end up doing 80 on the slow lane.
my question is, is it the tire problem? too little grip or too much flex on the 50 series sidewalls? or is it suspension related? if its tire related, would going for lets say the RE002 Adrenaline solve any problems? |
