QUOTE(filage @ Oct 5 2019, 03:20 PM) Okay so at one shop I went it is 25 too, A properly fitted drain plugs with thread that is not damaged does not require teflon to seal. 25 for bringing your own oil they said lesser I can't remember what 10 or 15 for if you use their oil. Which means discrimination to you for bringing own oil. You pay them the profit loss for their lack of engine oil sales profit. Did blow air gun on air filter, pump tyre. But what amazes me is they pour the bottle of oil like they are so sure they won't overfilled. One pour and then he went to check the dipstick and that's it. When I was home the mark overstretched the MAX by 5mm or so which means overfilled. And not to mention they didn't rewrap my drain plug with teflon, previously also I had wrapped with teflon tape because the washer is missing. So they just screwed it back with the existing teflon and when I was back, the oil seeped and dripped with small puddle overnight. Went back again to ask them to redo and they weren't too happy like not our fault kind but they did loosen the plug and rewrap new teflon and the seeping is arrested. Overall I don't think the charge and workmanship is satisfactory. If you use new drain plug and still leak that means the thread on your oil pan probably damaged if every time require teflon tape QUOTE(Thrust @ Oct 6 2019, 07:23 AM) When I buy the engine oil from Honda stockist, they do sell washers. So I'll buy from them and replace the washer every time. My drain plug and washer been re-used for years and still works fine... i compared it with a brand new washer, and honestly i can't tell the difference. But i do keep a spare just in case it leaks and i need to replace it. |

QUOTE(filage @ Oct 6 2019, 12:00 PM) Do you mean with good threads and new bolt, even without a washer also won't leak? Yeah, both my cars, the oil pan bolt does not need teflon tapeAbout your spare, if lets say you changed oil and have leaks, how will you proceed to change the washer? The bolt has to be taken out entirely and the oil has to be catched and poured back again? Actually i believe even without tightening the bolt and no washer also won't leak, because when i change engine oil, loosening the bolt, there is no drip, need to almost fully remove the bolt before any oil comes out. Yup, thankfully no leak ever... if got then no choice have to drain the oil into a clean bucket and pour back the oil into the engine. |

QUOTE(wanttotree @ Sep 23 2020, 03:17 PM) I change it myself for all kind of cars, they are all the same anyway. I changed from malaysian brand to japanese to germans. Just slight variation. I hate to say it, but most service place will charge you according to what car u drive. Went to a place to change for myvi charged rm15, came back for vios charged rm25. Then i came with bmw, its suddenly rm40 for labour. I now do it all myself, its not hard anyway. The drain plug same for Myvi, Vios and BMW ?I want to know if the drain plugs for both the engine and gearbox between the various brand is different or all cars no matter brand is the same. |

QUOTE(wanttotree @ Sep 24 2020, 10:09 AM) Drain plug for myvi and vios is the same size. Slightly different position. So the gasket is basically the same. Bmw is smaller. I cant say for gearbox though. Will find out soon and update post here. Ok, thanks. I was wondering do i need to buy special tool next time if i do get a BMW.Local brand and Japs normally uses standard stuff... I know contis always like to be different to make life difficult for people to work on their own cars. |
