I received a letter from Maxis, stating that my ValuePlus Family 30 supplementary lines will be moved to Talk and Surf 1 (priced at RM 38, from April 6). mad.gif bangwall.gif

The thing is that my supplementary line holders are just using dumb phones, and thus do not know how to use mobile internet. They need only calls and SMSs.

Thus, there is no reason for me to pay RM 8 more per supplementary line, for 1 GB data my supplementary line holders are not going to use. vmad.gif Even if Maxis gives us Terabytes or Petabytes of mobile data as a part of the "enhanced" package, my supplementary line holders are not going to use even a single bit of data.

If Maxis really want to increase their average revenue per user (ARPU), Maxis can forcefully upgrade the mobile telephone plan of rich tycoons. Leave us alone, as we are just average joes, living from hand to mouth with meagre pay, struggling with daily cost of living.

I would appreciate any advice given, so that I can give best possible reasons and justifications to Maxis, to maintain ValuePlus Family 30 packages (priced at RM 30 per line per month) as it is. notworthy.gif

Thank you very much. smile.gif

I went through this experience some months back. Maxis refused to reinstate the old Talkmore 28 plan for 2 of my lines used by my mom and my son.

In the end, I MNP both numbers out to RedOne's RM8 monthly postpaid plan.

I believe this ValuePlus Family 30 is a nearly 10 year old plan (introduced in Oct 2008).

Unless you can show a big fat number of subscribers still demanding for the ValuePlus Family 30 packages then there is nothing you can do. I'd say at least 100K would suffice as a big fat number and all 100K of you tell Maxis to retain us or else .....

Time for you (as an average joes) to start investigating/researching for more cost effective plans. kmrdeva is correct to suggest that RedOne RM8 monthly plan as a possible way out.

Same here, we went thru the same thing last year, now targeting the next line of subscribers. We had no choice but to mnp. RedOne I'm told is the cheapest? There are other networks you can use but you have to check whether their coverage is acceptable at your place.

100k subscribers of ValuePlus Family 30? sweat.gif I think that Maxis would have managed to "convince" most of these 100k subscribers and many others to migrate to the pricey MaxisOne Plan. Probably, there are not many subscribers of these legacy postpaid plans.

SMS Rate for Value Plus Family Supplementary 30 (after RM 30 monthly commitment fee is exhausted for sending SMS):
SMS from Maxis to Maxis: 5 cents
SMS from Maxis to non-Maxis: 15 cents

SMS Rate for Maxis Value Surf 1 (RM 20 monthly commitment fee does not include SMS):
SMS from Maxis to Maxis: 12 cents
SMS from Maxis to non-Maxis: 15 cents

SMS Rate for Maxis Talk and Surf 1 (RM 38 monthly commitment fee only includes measly 50 SMSs):
SMS from Maxis to Maxis: 12 cents
SMS from Maxis to non-Maxis: 15 cents

After the Maxis so-called Rate Plan Enhancements, the SMS rate from Maxis to Maxis is increased by a whopping 140%, from 5 cents to 12 cents. mad.gif bangwall.gif So, Maxis is really discouraging us from sending SMS, right?

Sigh, I really miss the days of intense SMS rate competitions between telecommunication companies. If I remember correctly, Celcom did offer SMS at 1 cent.

These days, we can easily see that Maxis is constantly bragging about its 4G LTE network speed (http://www.maxis.com.my/content/maxis/en/p...ta-network.html). Zero buffering when watching HD YouTube videos (with file size of several megabytes at least), 20Mbps average speed indoors & outdoors, bla bla...

Why does Maxis see the need to increase the SMS rate? Does sending a SMS (which is just a plain text file with some kilobytes) lead to clogging and thus complete bottleneck of the so-called high speed 4G LTE network?

So, going by Maxis' "logic", I have no problem streaming 100 MB YouTube and Iffix videos without any buffer, but Maxis discourages me from sending SMS which will slow down the high speed 4G LTE network. What is the logic in that? If Maxis can easily transmit YouTube videos, surely sending SMS is a piece of cake for Maxis, and consumes very little network bandwidth, if any at all.

It is only enhancement on Maxis' ever-increasing profit, but is actually a regression from customers' point of view. mad.gif bangwall.gif doh.gif

I think Maxis wants to 'encourage' consumers to sign up unlimited call+sms plan with data or say bye bye.

I just called Maxis to ask to switch/change from Value Surf 2 (Surfmore 30) to Talk and Surf 1 (ValuePlus Family 30) but was denied because Maxis said that plans that has been enhanced cannot be switch/change!!! I find it ridiculous. 1st they enhance then they lock your plan. Well so I guess the only way out is to switch telco!

After 6 April 2017, the Maxis user should be able to change between Maxis Talk and Surf 1 and Maxis Value Surf 1.

You should try asking other Maxis customer service officer.

It's a good thing that we consumers have multiple choices now.

My mom and my son are both on RedOne Crazy RM8 plan (1GB high speed) since Dec 2016. I just MNP to Redone Amazing RM28 plan (4GB high speed) last week. Will upgrade to Amazing RM48 (8GB high speed + 200 mins calls) if needed, after 6 months.

One more user to convince - my wife. She's still on her Hotlink Fast RM50 plan (5GB high speed + 100 mins calls). biggrin.gif

Assume that I am a Maxis principal line owner, with 3 Maxis supplementary line holders.

Can I port all 4 lines in one attempt? For example, I become a RedOne principal line owner, with 3 RedOne supplementary line holders.

Yes, it is the time to go to a place where we are more appreciated, rather than staying where we are, waiting to be slaughtered by Maxis.

Thank you for your advice. wink.gif

If you're not under any contract with Maxis, I believe this can be done.

To be sure, you should reach out to your local RedOne agent.
