I find that I get sore throat/cough/fever with or without running nose mostly about 2 or 3 times per year and every episode can last 4 to 5 days. How to reduce frequency? Any solid tips? I would like to hear how often you get sick and what are the steps you have taken to drastically reduce frequency and what are the things you find sort of "caused" your sickness e.g. if you are lack of sleep etc.

It is caused by viruses either common cold or influenza or in some cases, strep throat (streptococcal bacteria).

So, stay away from ppl who are coughing/sneezing.

Wash your hands after dealing with sick ppl.

There are still ppl who don't bother to cover their mouth when they cough/sneeze coz they think it's not infectious.

When you tell them nicely to cover their mouth, they will reply, "oh it's just the chocolate, fried chicken, fried food, fried snacks, etc I ate a few days ago", when it is obvious they are having a viral infection.

I wonder whether putting hands in your mouth or rubbing your eyes without prior exposure to people already infected...can these cause sickness? Or is the mode of transmission mainly airborne like people infected coughing in cinema etc

Yes, that's how the virus gets transmitted. Both airborne and through contact with respiratory fluids.

Someone infected touch a lift button and then you touched the lift button, and then u rub your eyes or u put your fingers into your mouth.

Are beards good for your health?

After keeping a circle beard, I rarely catch the common cold and the ladies find me more attractive too...

Too frequent sore throat if tonsillitis, then its worth getting a tonsillectomy. Solved my problem. Vit D deficiency affects your immune system as well. Get more sun n sweat!

Hmm... Maybe I should save less often but seriously I highly doubt beard helps. If anything, it probably helps trapping more germs!

I sometimes drink from same cup as gf but I doubt that is the cause of it because she hardly gets sick. Furthermore, I can accept transmission through touching the eyes because of thinner membranes of the eyes but is it that easy to transmit through mouth, say from biting fingernails? How long can virus stay alive when exposed ? Is it even proven that viruses/ diseases are transmitted through hand? Maybe those bacterial ones from babies to parents? Other than that, I think most are transmitted thru air. Do u agree?

That's why always wash hands with soap and water.
Another way is to strengthen the immune system. How?
- Proper sleep
- Do not smoke
- Exercise
- Exposure to morning/evening sun for about 1 hour/you can supplement with Vit D but not recommended since sunlight is free biggrin.gif
- Take lots of immune boosting foods. Fruits, vege, garlic, ginger
- Avoid sugar/decrease sugar. If you eat lots of sugar, sugar depress the immune system. Places where you can fund sugar: bread, rice, potatoes, noodles, roti canai, boxed drink, canned drinks, soft drinks, fruit juice sold in supermarket, 3in1 drinks

Yea, wash hands more. Regarding nutrition, I believe it only play a small role in preventing flu and such. Genetics and hygiene I think. Of course eating healthy is a given .

Nope not really. While I was overseas, I make it a point to eat 5 choves of garlic each day. and I was never down with flu/sore throat.

Pharyngitis perhaps? Check the ventilation of your workplace. Service your aircond, bacterias can colonized airconds. Get your teeth checked as well, dental problems, ear problems can contribute to frequent sore throat. If you smoke, stop.

i get sick quite frequently too and i was told by a traditional chinese medicine dr that sleep early is the cheapest way to be healthy.

i try my best to eat bland and soupy food instead. i only eat fried food and the like like 3 months once.

u might want to keep a journal of the things u do and eat so u can see what triggers sore throat.

Thanks for opinion but I do not believe in avoiding heaty stuff at all. Food is food. Thrre is no such thing as heaty or not heaty, to me at least and I do not find correlation with food at all.
