Im using C1200, wifi signal quite bad for upstairs. So I use homeplug for upstairs.
C1200 has 3 antennas btw.
One thing I don't like about this C1200 is that it only has one USB port.

Yes, 5ghz is weaker than 2.4. But 2.4 is also weak upstairs, so I rely on homeplug wifi extender plug.
I needed one more USB port for recording my cctv footage.

Guys, I'm having random disconnect sometimes when I am on the 2nd floor ( my house is double storey ) and the modem/router was set up on ground floor

most of it works exactly the same, take the existing wifi signal and rebroadcast it.

addon, current market for such device have all the functionality is just up to you, how you want it to be.

pulling a cable to it and create a new SSID, take existing wifi and amplify , or take existing wifi and rebroadcast it to another SSID.

previously i bought aztech repeater , somehow sometimes the connection on and off , it just like internet disconnecting for few second then back to normal ... i decided not to use the repeater and bought good router for better signal , now no problem
