This is interesting. For 158/month + RM1/year you get unlimited roaming in Singapore with 500mb/day.. Could this mean we can just maintain 1 number? If you're someone who's gonna be driving in and out of Singapore daily, would it be worth it? Currently I'm using Maxis One 98, would need to upgrade.
*
To me I feel it's definitely worth it. I have a device contract though. Gonna see if I can settle it in full and switch to this.

QUOTE(jojolicia @ Mar 20 2017, 03:41 PM)
any idea, if the unlimited roaming extended to sub-line?
*
Apparently not. The subline has to be upgraded to principal and also pay the full 158 minimum to qualify. But if it is any consolation, the newly upgraded principal can be grouped under the original principal account and be paid by the latter. Say in my case if I upgrade my subline it would be 158+158.

If you mean the IPA for EP, I just got mine yesterday. Took 8 days from the moment they put in the application.

Btw, anyone here work in CBD? Got any recommendation on how I might get a season pass near MBFC?

Woah, you're planning to get a car right after moving over?
*
Um... Not really. I've been driving my Malaysian car into Singapore everyday. But then again, my colleagues said I should really get a car in Singapore instead. They claimed that even with COE thrown in, it's cheaper to get a car in Singapore than having to pay for the VEP and other costs on a daily basis over 10 years. I have not worked out the TCO to determine whether that is true. If any sifus here can advise that'd be great as well. notworthy.gif

Oh, to add context, I'm already working in Singapore. smile.gif

What car you drive? You can compare that car equivalent value in SGD then you can calculate the savings / expenses
*
I'm driving a Japanese car at the moment. Thinking of switching over to a continental. (Everyone can think right?) smile.gif Will do a calculation one of these days.

ur colleagues could be right.
it depends how long will u be commuting between MY SG. If commuting on every working day for more than 6 years, probably better to buy a SG car.
*
The point is valid. I drive between SG and MY every work day. I suspect that I won't be looking to go back to Malaysia for work anytime soon so this is going to be long term for now.

QUOTE(KilJim @ May 12 2017, 06:33 PM)
Ohh right you were asking some stuff previously too, forgot about that
How long does it take you to drive from JB to CBD area everyday?
*
Yes! And thanks to all the advise from everyone on this forum things turned out very well. smile.gif
Driving from JB to CBD should take about 1.5 hours on a good day, I imagine.

QUOTE(ThanatosSwiftfire @ May 12 2017, 06:36 PM)
Well, the benefit is, if u dun come into singapore u dun pay the VEP, and you can change more cars.

And when u travel arnd msia u less worried abt getting robbed cos ppl target sg cars.
*
That... I have not considered before. Didn't know that SG cars get targeted more. Very unfortunate for our friends from Singapore. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the advise.

QUOTE(iceypain @ May 12 2017, 06:48 PM)
you can lease a spot at the sail condo. it's 500+ a month
*
That's prefect! Thanks for the tip, iceypain! Appreciate it much!

QUOTE(knwong @ May 12 2017, 09:11 PM)
In my honest opinion savings of buying a S plate car is negligible compared to driving Msian car. The headache like high up front downpayment, high insurance, worry of car get stolen in Msia, worry of low fuel when exiting S'pore checkpoint, etc doesn't justify for it. The savings only realized towards the end of your 10 year ownership. Just get a S plate car when u decide to get PR

Since you are aiming for conti cars, I can suggest you to get plug-in hybrid like BMW 330e and find parking lot with charging point when you park at MBFC
*
Your argument makes a lot of sense. Rhymes a lot with what I was thinking. Do they still check for 3/4 fuel when exiting? I don't see the officers checking for that at the checkpoints.

You have good tastes in cars bro, BMW 330e. smile.gif I like BMWs too but I've heard too many complaints about frequent faults with the car. Not that there's a faultless car but recently the Audis with their new virtual cockpit really caught my fancy. biggrin.gif

But it still depends on whether how long is he going to stay in SG.

Let say 5 years?

Then for 5 years don't even bother apply for PR? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

That's another headache I'll revisit at a much later date. sweat.gif

Another thing is... SG car max life = 10 or 20. Not like M'sia car can go 40 50 60 as long as it don't breakdown and the maintenance cost is reasonable biggrin.gif
*
Definitely not keeping any car for more than 10 years. smile.gif

QUOTE(thurtin @ May 29 2018, 04:22 PM)
My friend is in IT. Doing SAP stuff I think. He is trying to do the math on how much he can save in SG based on his current and future lifestyle.
*
Everyone's definition/interpretation of what each of those items mean can be different/subjective under the seemingly endless variation of conditions/environments. However, your friend's desired lifestyle is similar to mine so I'll hazard a generalization based on my own experience. I'll also assume your friend is single and live 10 minutes' drive to work in the CBD, along with dropping all other considerations that is not in your list.

Your friend could be looking at spending something in the range of S$6k. And here's a sample breakdown:

Condo S$4,000 (c.850 sqf)
MRT S$50
Grabcar S$200
Hawker S$230 (breakfast and lunch every work day)
Grabeat S$300 (dinner every work night)
Drinks S$300
Restaurants S$560

I don't know about movies though. I am so tired on weekends that if I have time I'll sleep it in or work on my own projects/chores so "movies" is pretty much limited to what's on HBO/Fox Movies. I much prefer Discovery Asia or BBC Earth though but this is off-topic. =)

Hope this helps your friend adjust his expectations/lifestyle and/or plan accordingly.

Anyone has the latest on conditions imposed by both countries for crossing the SG-MY border? My MY driver’s license has expired recently, weighing my options for a quick trip to UTC in JB to get it renewed.
