but need to inform LHDN on this and keep all the employment letter and pay slip..just in case they start asking where you got the money from when transferring money back to m'sia..
*
Mind to elaborate... what do you mean by "inform LHDN"? I've been wondering, do we still need to do income tax filing in Malaysia legally speaking, considering our SG salary is not taxable in Malaysia? I'm getting mixed answers from online. The tax treaty agreement document from LHDN website doesn't seem to call this out, looks like a grey area sad.gif

my friend said speak to LHDN officer (dunno which branch) la and show them the employment letter to them..then they said just email them with your SG number as a notice la..
for sure you only need to pay taxes in the country that you worked..but takut later problem when bringing the money from malaysia...
if bring in more than USD10K into malaysia, make sure you fill in the forms and pass to the officer...this will show that you bring in the money legally..

Haha... after so many years working in SG, I wonder what'll happen if now I contact LHDN to "volunteer" closing my tax file tongue.gif

r u holding PR now? planning to stay in SG for good?

Yeah, am SPR. Sometimes there're needs to buy stuff in Malaysia so need to TT home.

QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ May 31 2018, 11:22 AM)
Are you still working in Malaysia or started work in SG ? Normally if you are still working in Malaysia, when you resign let the HR know you are going overseas and they will know what to do and submit a Borang something to LHDN. Your last month pay in Malaysia may be withhold (LHDN will instruct HR to withhold your $$$), so you will need to deal with LHDN and clear everything before they can close your file. After that, get that letter and show it to HR for them to release your last month pay if its still stuck.
*
I've been working in SG for quite a few years.

sorry what's SPR?? how's living in SG? better especially with family?
*
Sorry for the confusion. Like what Kenny mentioned, it's short form for Singapore PR. Many versions back, people on this thread typed SPR more often than Singapore PR and I learned from them tongue.gif

I supposed your question is for raising kids? I'm not married yet, so can't tell from experience. Academic stress in Singapore is higher than in Malaysia in general. It's not uncommon to hear parents lament that even primary school syllabus/homework sometimes can be complicated for parents themselves. There was this theory that school purposely make it tough so that parents will be more involved and engaged with children's education, which also helps to foster closer relationship. Regardless of the theory validity, I personally feel that parents (at least one of them) have to be able to allocate time for children everyday, so that they don't face those stress alone. I've seen case, kid crying helplessly, while parents were too busy with works. That hurt my heart. sweat.gif If my children grow up like that, I would worry about their phycological health and personality. One of my friends moved back to Malaysia for the same concern, as her profession was quite demanding in terms of working hours. If working hours is manageable for your job or your partner's, this shouldn't be a concern.

School admission can be another headache. Many of my non-citizen colleagues end up sending their children to international school, I suspect their salary are much higher than mine hmm.gif

QUOTE(thurtin @ May 31 2018, 02:48 PM)
I did it after i quit my old job. Same process. Will need:

1. CP21 form from your last employer
2. Last 5 years EA forms
3. If you haven't settle the previous year(s) taxes, get a BE form to clear them all
*
Thanks bro. I'm thinking to pay LHDN a visit to get thing cleared. I heard that each tax file is handled by specific branch. Any idea how do we figure out which branch is managing our file?

@hacky

Normally..., for SPR with REP expired:
- if physically present in Singapore: PR status remains valid
- if not in Singapore or left Singapore after expired: PR status revoked
I would suggest to read the information from ICA website for details and accuracy.

The exact criteria for getting REP renewal approved is unknown and might change over time, but it's believed by many that working and living in Singapore are among the criteria. REP validity after successful renewal may vary from 1 to 5 years depends on assessment. Most people get 5 years if nothing outstanding.

Answer simply is yes. SPR is no longer valid if REP wasn't or unable to be renewed.

People here will say 80% of kids here is like that what, both parents go out to work, study at government school, piles of homework, tuition, hobby class etc etc, its the trend, you don't start early next time you pick card board.

Agree rclxms.gif

Actually, the need for both parents to work in order to support family financially has been quite common and the trend is not really specific to Singapore. Even Malaysia, or western countries are the same. That's the harsh reality under inflation driven economy. I feel as long as parent's working hours is not over demanding, that's good enough even if they both need to work. Ironically, this is getting tougher to achieve.

Talking about working hours... I started a social project surrounding this. Will share the info here once ready.

1) AFAIK, SG PR and permit holders are not allowed to drive foreign car in SG.
2) Not experienced. Better don't bring boxes/packages along.

Are you going to drive? If not, taking train might be an option to deal with custom jam. A taxi driver told me he traveled everyday by train then drive taxi in SG. Not sure about train schedule though.

So far haven't hear anyone who I know kena stop by police in SG without violating law. Only one friend was stopped twice: first time jaywalking, the traffic police only gave warning; second time... jaywalking again at the same area and he was fined bangwall.gif

hi guys, if I were to submit my PR application now and on November I'm renewing my passport, do I just update ICA on my application? Will it delay my PR approval? If it may, I think I should just renew my passport now before submitting my PR application.

Passport renewal can be done mostly within a day if not wrong, I definitely will renew first in this case to avoid any unwanted surprise smile.gif

QUOTE(zelltan8 @ Jan 20 2019, 01:17 AM)
hi all, I would need your advice as I am in a dilemma now.
I had been working in a multinational company now in Malaysia for almost 11 years.

Now my friend in SG is giving me an opportunity to start-up together a company. I will have a certain percentage of share for the company, but the salary is almost about 4k SGD only. Should I give up my job in Malaysia and try out this startup company? Or just give up and stay in my company now? The new company also requires me to travel to both SG and KL.  blush.gif

confused.gif  confused.gif  confused.gif
*
Starting company together... I assume that means you will be founder rather than just an employee with share. If that's the case, there are other questions more critical than "is SGD4K salary worthy?" smile.gif
a) Who are the other founders?
b) What is each founder's specialisation and role/contribution to make the venture a success?
c) How's the return distribution among founders? Is it fair according to contribution?
d) Funding?
e) More importantly, since startup has high failure rate, are you confident with this venture?

If all aspects look promising base on your judgement, then salary factor is pretty much depends on your financial commitment and risk appetite.

Just my 2 cents.

For those of you who used to work in Malaysia, what's your typical leisure activity on weekend, in Singapore vs in Malaysia? Mind to share?

First of all why ask this question? Are you bored?

Many people claim working life in SG is too boring compare to in Malaysia (or more specifically in Klang Valley). I do get bored sometimes. I don't have much experience for Klang Valley however, so I wonder is working life at Klang Valley really that interesting?

it depends on the individual actually...
if u don't find activity youself....no matter where u go, it'll be boring after some time...

standard entertainment: movie, cafe, sports/gym, chill at home laugh.gif

...
*
Personally... I'm just finding that repeating the same activities over and over again is getting boring.

I assume that typical activities at Klang Valley are not much different from in SG. The only thing I can see is that, in Malaysia it's easier to have excursion/road trip away from city over weekend.

Hi all, I'm about to start my first job in Singapore soon,
would like to ask for opinion before I proceed any further.

Currently looking for a single room with a budget of $550-$650 with the aircond being the option for the price range,
preferably to have own single toilet despite only renting a single room, not sure if this is feasible, and do I shortlist this criteria at those rental website?
my workplace is around Kaki Bukit MRT area, I don't mind to walk, MRT or bus (within 30 minutes) transport combination as my daily routine to work. Any other area that I can cheaper rental with better living conditions? provided I willing to travel 30 minutes

I have no Singapore registered number yet, which telco offers the best of the buck as a starter? Do I need my employment letter or pass to obtain a "non-tourist" sim pack? How much I have to fork out for a data plan that covers minimum data for whatsapp usage and some calls?

Thanks in advance.
*
Base on my experience for HDB flat, rooms with toilet are basically master room. I'm afraid that budget is too low. With that budget, I used to stay in middle room with aircond but shared toilet, at northern Singapore where rental rate is generally lower. Not familiar with Kaki Bukit though.
