But then I heard it is very troublesome when you are going to sell the car in the future.

Need to pay the exempted tax based on some value i remember. For the tax saved maybe its worth, more than 50% of the car price.

Tax saved is so much? I thought tax is like 10% of the car price only. Or the excise duty also exempted?

LTA should charge triple ERP for cars that have no passengers, only driver. That will control the traffic and make the roads more efficiently used 😂

Kiasi don't want take public transport. Went back last week with kids, so crowded everywhere like covid already die off.

Maybe I will try to ask LTA if I can drive in.

The most important thing to bring in is actually my computer hardware, with monitors and what not.

So I think at the same time I can bring everything in.

I am planning to not enter with my IPA yet, just drive in as a normal short term visitor, after I drop my things off then I will go back to Malaysia the next day.

What other trouble do you think I might run into? Would it help if I ask someone else to send me in?
*
What you bring in, you need to think about the time when you going back too, plus the stuff accumulated through out the years, then Malaysia import duty too when crossing borders. Unless go back under REP then can skip import tax.

QUOTE(Roboguru @ May 23 2022, 11:12 AM)
be careful.. officer may stop you because you not yet a singapore resident.

Social visit pass carrying electronic goods across the border will raise unnecessary suspicion.

Actually, not so easy to drive across the pond these days with Malaysian car requiring approved VEP application.
Can't you buy the Monitor in SG? and cpu hardware can break into carry on luggage bag then bring it with you like that.

No need car but it's up to you. Me personally, I think it's too troublesome for common goods like monitor or Pc parts and you are opening yourself to questioning from officer.

Some people may not have privilege to get new everything in a short period or they just don't want to waste. Ah the good times when 1st moving to SG wub.gif .

Hi, recently obtained a software developer job. Company is based in Singapore, while I from Petaling Jaya/Kuala Lumpur.

I am planning to rent a HDB unit.

So some questions I have:

i) Let's say I need to be in office 5x a week on weekdays, is it okay to travel back lets say every weekend now that borders have reopened? Tiring and expensive or not?

ii) If let's say I can negotiate and allow myself to work from home, and once in a while only need to go office, can I work from my house in PJ/KL?

iii) Use what mobile plan? I will still need a mobile line in SG and will be renting a HDB unit as well. Will travel up and down between Malaysia and Singapore very regularly (family reasons)

iv) Any other concerns I should be aware of?

Thanks!

i) flight not tiring, used to do it weekly for years. uni time before airasia expensive but papa pay. airasia is not expensive. now not sure. can see many familiar faces taking the same flight weekly so you not alone.

ii) after WFH culture its much more acceptable now. I asked for a 4 days office 0.5 day on plane 0.5 day at home when sign on HR made big fuss. lucky boss is ang moh style.

Uni time before airasia expensive but also airasia not expensive? Don't so understand that part.

Oh usually those familiar faces taking the same flight weekly, why do they do so? Why did u do so? For you and them, is it mostly family/business related?

Also I saw this news on Lowyat.net that day (https://www.lowyat.net/2022/276286/firefly-resumes-flights-singapore/)...but when I checked the Firefly website, its not cheap also

Long time ago before budget airline can land at Changi, only MAS and SQ flying to my place, around 1k that time if not wrong. Mama want see her daughter so papa forced to pay wub.gif . Most people I guess is for family, weekends no people working. Buy ticket months earlier, 200-300 sgd kl return trip now?

Wow, RM1k to and fro, so RM4k+ per month? Did u book the tickets in advance? If book the tickets few weeks before, its gonna be more expensive than few months before right, for example?
What about those flights like Firefly? Saw on lowyat news that it resume again. Depart from Subang airport is it?
*
My home is Sabah so its more expensive. KL should be cheaper if buy early.

Hi fellow forumers,

I am planning to transfer to my company's Singapore branch, planned for early to mid 2023. I'm planning to bring my dog over as well, and already have contact for professional pet relocator.

However, my concern is the ease of finding rental where the owners will allow medium sized dog (14kg). Will be moving with my wife and child, so 2 adults, 1 child and 1 dog.

Anyone had experience in finding rental properties with pets? Office will be at Paya Lebar Square, so properties not too far from Circle or East West line should be fine. Rental around SGD3k should be fine, or SGD2k+ if further from office

Thank you
*
HDB don't allow mid size dog I think. Condo can have mid breed, but depend on MC and the neighbours complain or not. Try ask the MC before signing. Not sure about the rental now but allow more budget if condo. I kept 3 husky, they howl at night sometime but never get complain. Its cruel to muzzle the dog at home all the time.

Thanks! Are you living in a condo too? HDB seems to allow bigger local mongrels now, but don't think that will apply to mongrels from Malaysia  sad.gif Do you happen to know any good property agents. so that I can also engage them when the time comes?
*
I staying landed and short while at condo during renovation. They howl at the condo maybe not used to the new environment we have to scold them. Big breed need a lot of running space else they havoc your house. Now no more staying in SG, come here for kay poh only. Try ask others for recommendation.

You can't choose who you want to pay tax to, nor your company can choose that for you. In general, you pay tax to the country you at when you generating that income. Otherwise you just freeloader to the country while using their facilities for free that other people paid tax for. Good luck explaining to LHDN if they pick you up.

So competitive now, start to worry on my sons' future dating plan already. When I date their dad, we just use BMW bus mrt and walk, can't even afford cab, no complain.

sifu sifu...

I'm considering further my study in master in HSE (safety).

NUS' master is sgd 44k (non-pr) / 38k (pr) weekday evening class while UTM in Skudai only cost  rm15k, weekend classes.

1. Wonder anyone taking master while working in SG? If yes, master in SG or MY?
2. Will a master degree from MY helps our career progression in SG?
*
NUS so expensive now? NUS used to be the place for good student but family not so well to do. I planned to send my kids there but 44k how to afford?

Agree. After some research, there are similar master degree from UK (Uni. of Aberdeen, Rm 80k, online distance learning) including MY (UTP, Rm 35k, weekend) that can be considered.

As I am just too old to invest Rm140k for master,  likely will enrol in UTP (Msia) for weekend master degree. For youngsters, no doubt a master from NUS or NTU could be a good investment, especially those in finance/banking.
Sgd 44k is for master by coursework. PR is 4k cheaper if not mistaken. By the way,  the fee will increase yearly.

So expensive, SG known for its good and affordable education last time... Just checked the MBA become 90k now, double up already...
