Own a PS4 Pro, but do not own a 4K TV or monitor. Currently only using a cheap 27" 1080p monitor.

Is it wise to buy a 4K monitor and pair it with my PS4 Pro, instead of a 4K TV? Reason to prefer a monitor than a TV is because of size. For 4K monitor, 24" to 28" available. But for 4K TV, minimum size is 43", which is very big and not practical to be put on table, sit near and use as a monitor.

Anyone faced this dilemma before or perhaps can give some idea?

to be honest...anything less than 60" or 70" ...wouldn't really feel the difference between 1080p and 4k

So you're suggesting instead of buying a new 4K monitor or TV, I should just stick to my 1080p monitor, unless I go for 60" and above screen size?

Even though im using the slim version, plugging the console on a monitor feels more laggy compared to tv. Maybe because of the distance. Sit near, our eyes can 'feel' the framerate...

You have answered your own question. If you having small area and where you sit is near, use your existing monitor no point wasting money. Once you have more space and budget get the 4k TV for future proofing.

FYI, not all games will run 4k on consoles.

Hmm....this I frame rate thing I hardly notice. I did try plug it to my living room TV, which is a 32" 1080p, and for some reason, I feel the picture quality is better on TV, and color also looks nicer on TV. Maybe my monitor sucked, I'm not sure. It's a cheap Viewsonic 27" 1080p monitor after all, so this is why I'm thinking of changing it, and 4K monitor (or TV) comes into mind.

Budget have, but room space don't have, unless I move to a new and bigger house. But thanks for the input anyhow, really appreciate it. I guess I should just stick to my current monitor then, no point spending on something that I can't fully utilise. For my kind of space, distance and table, I think maximum monitor/TV size is 28" only. Anything beyond that will be too big and will hurt eyes due to short distance.

4K HDR monitor is not available in the market at the moment.

with your PS4 pro, you should aim for 4K AND HDR capability. HDR 10bit to be exact. Best if you aim for tv instead of monitor.

I'll stick with 1080p 60fps with my ps4 pro until 4K HDR tv price drops to a reasonable price range.

Check out my thread on choosing 4K HDR tv for PS4 Pro.

The 43" TV model that I am aiming does have HDR, but again, it's 43", will be too big to be used as monitor with short distance. This is why I'm hoping for a 4K monitor instead, because it has 24" to 28" size. But again, I'm not really sure if a monitor is ideal for a PS4 Pro.

Yes, HDR, this is the TV I am looking at

http://www.lazada.com.my/lg-43uh617t-ultra...s-10792998.html

It's the size that concerns me more because I'll be using it as a monitor as well at the same time. And unfortunately, not a single 4K monitor available today has HDR capability. Therefore I'm wondering the current 4K monitor (without HDR), is it worth investing in, for both my PC and PS4 Pro use.

this is a common misconception..

some games actually run at native 4k...

while others running at 1440p, 1600p or 1800p...

thn it uses checkerboard rendering to upscaled it to 4k..

unless u stick ur face to the screen..it is almost impossible to see..

most people go for monitors for the refresh rate.
there's hardly any ghosting to speak of when jumping to a high end monitor-4k or otherwise.
but if you're not looking to play a game competitively, there's hardly any reason to go for a monitor; at least IMO.

at home I'm using a 55"KS7000, which I'm sitting about 2 feet away. the size takes a little bit of an adjustment, coming from a 50"W800b, but feels just right after a day or two of gaming.

back in my hometown, i recently bought a "gaming" monitor which is fairly low end, but still something alot of "pro gamers" claim is better than a TV.

I'm not impressed.

Something about having the size of the screen vs a 27" monitor...it just doesn't compare.

anyway, as others have mentioned; if you're going to upgrade, be sure it's HDR enabled. don't just look at the resolution of the screen.
There's a reason Sony pushed HDR instead of 4K when announcing the PS4Pro.

I find this very odd.
On my monitor I had to bump up my control sensitivity up 2 notches-from medium to very high before i can feel as comfortable on the monitor as I am with my TV.

no idea why..it has nothing to do with the frame rate either, the controls just feel way more responsive on my TV.

I can feel the difference when playing Hitman. The lag is noticeable in my 24" monitor compared to my 32" viera. Technically framerates are the same as we are using the same console/hardware.. but yeah...agreed its sound strange.

Alright, now I know, TV it is then, for my PS4 Pro. I haven't really seen what HDR is all about yet, but it seems that everyone is talking about it when it comes to 4K TV, so it must be important I suppose. Guess I just have to wait until I get a 4K TV only can see it for myself what it is all about. Thanks man.

I have finally bought a 4K TV, to be exact it's a LG 43UH610T, at a very good value/price from Lazada. All I can say, to those who said better pair the PS4 Pro with a TV than a monitor, you are absolutely right! I tested it last night, I was very impressed! The HDR thing is amazing. Luckily I have one game that supports it, which is Uncharted 4, and the difference is very obvious. Some settings need to be done on the TV itself, or else the HDR is disabled by default. And on the PS4 too, have to set some stuff in the Display section. Got 2 kinds of HDR though, one is RGB and the other is YUV20. I pick the RGB one, but still have no idea what is the difference between these two.

Anyway, I hope more titles will come with HDR support in future. This TV is a worthy buy. Hopefully this thread can provide the info to those who wish to buy PS4 Pro in future but face similar dilemma like my situation here. Just go for a 4K TV..........you won't regret it!

As expected, HDR option is unavailable when using 4K monitor because there is no 4K HDR monitor at the moment.
But the most important to look for a 4K monitor is that it supports USB 2.0, otherwise, you won't be able to get the 4K RGB or YUV option in PS4 Pro video settings menu.

But according to this guy, it's already looked marvelous even without HDR.

He's using a Philips BDM4350UC 43-Inch Class IPS-LED Monitor 4K monitor.

I think u must be referring to HDMI 2.0 and not USB 2.0, a typo error there perhaps? And yes, HDR is indeed a big deal when it comes to 4K and PS4 Pro. After I have tested and seen what my PS4 Pro can produce on my recently purchased 4K TV that has HDR support, I was really impressed. Of course the game itself has to be able to support it and I just lucky enough to have one of them, which is Uncharted 4. The graphics and color are so beautiful and realistic, especially on tropical jungle scenery location. For a non-gamer who happens to be around while I'm playing, she also shocked that how come a videogame can look so realistic and even asked whether or not I'm playing a game or watching a movie. I certainly looking forward for more titles to support HDR functionality in future, especially AAA first party titles.

The TV is superb, especially when I got it for that unbeatable price. I was using a LG 43" also before this, but it was a Full-HD model (43LF570T). Watching HD and FHD stuffs, I'd say, can't see or tell any difference. Both are very much the same. It only shows a real huge difference when playing HDR content, in which for my case is my PS4 Pro running a HDR supported game Uncharted 4. If you have a big room with long viewing distance, get bigger size, then maybe you'll see more difference. Unfortunately my room is small and viewing distance is short, so I can't get bigger size model. For 4K, usually people go for 49" and beyond.

Expensive loh, with this amount of money, can buy a very nice and good 4K TV already. Besides, PS4 is also unable to utilize the 1440p resolution.

Thanks man.

HDR basically means the image has better balance exposure...dark parts can see without over exposing the bright part. IMO, it's more for watching movies/videos than playing games. Games, all fake mah, programmer can adjust the lightning as see fit...LOL.

Thee are some small difference in games, but it's not quiet as contrasting comparing to videos/photos.

Yes, TV will usuallly have better color. Even my not too expensive LCD TV also looks better than my monitors anyday. TV colors and contrast simply looks better without needing any adjustment.

Alright.. been looking for HDR10 monitor for about a month.. finally, Acer has come out an HDR10 monitor which has affordable price!

Wish to do programming work, game dev work, photoshop, and console games in one monitor.

Tada ET322QK ~!! Not yet available in Malaysia (as shitty as always). Available already in Singapore, at SG$434.99. Yep it is around RM1400... no kidding...

https://www.newegg.com/global/sg/Product/Pr...158&ignorebbr=1

Need to find a way to deliver to Malaysia.

A monitor that cost twice the console.

Absolutely no.

Based on this, the monitor is pseudo HDR :

As long as it doesn't hit 1000cd/m², of course it's pseudo HDR with HDR 10 standard. I don't really need 800 - 1000nit feature on my monitor and sit so near to it unless you're wearing sunglasses and work in front of your monitor cool2.gif .

Someone has already complained the Acer HDR mentioned above because they CAN'T change the brightness and contrast when HDR mode is turned on, and yes again, you get what you pay.

Just realized 4K is a gimmick instead of what we want is HDR and 60fps in gaming.

I saw this BenQ EW277HDR, 1080p with 400 cd/m² in Taobao around RM1100, The only downside of this monitor is shitty VA panel...

So now I need to spend extra time to look for 1080 with 400nit HDR feature with IPS panel...

Differences between visual with HDR and without HDR is f**kinly huge. A cheap monitor with brightness of 400cd/m2 is a very good buy, if we want to play console games on it...

Most of the ps4 pro-enhanced AAA games are only enhanced in either 4K with 30fps, OR less than 4K (mostly, 1080p) in 60fps. Very less sports and casual games supports 4K with 60fps.

So, ask yourself back again, given you a monitor, do you want to play your games in 4K with 30fps (with option 1080p in 60fps) on it? Hell NO.

So yep, cheap, 1080p monitor with 400cd/m2 and high contrast ratio, HDR10-ready in VA panel (darker black) for console games -> BUY.

Even though im using the slim version, plugging the console on a monitor feels more laggy compared to tv. Maybe because of the distance. Sit near, our eyes can 'feel' the framerate...
