QUOTE(TristanX @ May 16 2017, 01:20 PM) Just check the specs http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-B25...ing-5-rev-10#sphttp://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-H270-HD3-rev-10#spI can tell you. Intel is not worth the money for workstation rig. The extra cores and threads will blow Intel away. Also, your budget too low to build a good workstation rig. Core i5-7400 - 837 Gigabyte B250M-D3H - 449 Kingston 8GB DDR4-2133 X1 - 254 Corsair VS 450W - 184 Tecware F3 case - 124 Phillips 257E7QDSB 25" monitor - 659 RM2507 total Budget can go up to 3k maximum what else need to get?

QUOTE(TristanX @ May 16 2017, 06:57 PM) Change CPU to i5-7500 and add another 8GB RAM. Well I have told him to go for Ryzen 1600 for daily programming and multimedia designing/video editing usage be much better than Intel 7500. Told me Intel 7500 has a better resale value than Ryzen 1600...Hope so he change his mind....

QUOTE(TristanX @ May 17 2017, 01:35 AM) Yes, in multi-threaded. It can beat any mainstream i7. Ryzen 1600 is definitely worth to get now and it can last for 3 years to run any latest application and high end software etc video editing..

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ May 18 2017, 10:06 AM) I don't see any reason to upgrade from i5 with your usage pattern, i5 is more than enough to serve you at the moment, if the pattern doesn't change, it can last you for many years, those are light weight tasks. I am still using i5 750 4GB RAM since 2010....Thought of replacing it with Ryzen 1600 8GB RAM.....

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ May 18 2017, 02:22 PM) Do you feel that your PC started to slow down a lot? If yes, check the RAM usage, 4GB is barely enough nowadays if you don't practice memory management (especially with multiple Chrome/FF tabs left opened in the background), if the usage pattern of this rig (i5 750 + 4GB RAM) is the same as the one mentioned earlier by you (i5 4570 + 8GB RAM) then I don't think you need to upgrade yet, maybe in the next 2 years AOC E2270SWDN/Asus VS228NE? Thick bezel monitor has started to fade away recently, most of the leftover stocks are still based on old models and specs. Yes is slow down a lot what shall I do.. upgrade to Ryzen 1600?

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ May 18 2017, 03:08 PM) Have you checked the RAM usage, disk usage in Task Manager? Upgrading to Ryzen will help IF the slow down is caused by the processor itself and not other components, if you don't have SSD and still rely on HDD then the culprit might be it. Not sure what is causing to slow down here ..I am using Samsung SSD... This post has been edited by christina1: May 18 2017, 04:56 PM Attached thumbnail(s)

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ May 18 2017, 04:59 PM) That's why I said check "Windows Task Manager" when you feel the slow down, in Task Manager, switch to "Performance" tab, observe the usage of each components (CPU, Memory, Disk etc.). Attach is the screenshot for performance tab...Looks like the RAM is not enough for daily usage...time to upgrade? This post has been edited by christina1: May 18 2017, 05:11 PM Attached thumbnail(s)

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ May 18 2017, 05:26 PM) 80% of the RAM is in use, not very close to the limit where Windows will start using pagefile/swapfile for additional memory space yet, do you feel the PC is very slow now? If yes then what you are doing with the PC currently? Just browsing and already feel slow? Just use this PC for browsing, downloading stuff and watch movies/listen music .. .is gets very slow when I open few browser at the same time.. . QUOTE(terence_nwb @ May 18 2017, 06:02 PM) If you have the budget then you may go for the whole CPU platform upgrade, if you want to save money or see if adding more RAM is able to fix the slow down or not, then you may consider my suggestion I'm taking a risk by upgrading the RAM if it does not improve the pc performance. To upgrade the desktop pc to Ryzen 1600 which a lot of ppl has suggested it will take me almost 2k.. It's better save some money and upgrade to Ryzen 1600 and for the next 3 years won't have any issues on slowness for desktop pc .

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Jun 9 2017, 11:08 AM) Both are different things, one is memory one is CPU. If you are running low on memory then adding more memory will fix the issue, but if the culprit is the slow CPU (4th gen i5 is still kicking a** these days BTW unless you are doing heavy CPU stuffs on it), then adding more memory won't be able to solve the issue. And nope, 16GB is not overkill, it depends on your usage pattern and common practice on memory management. U mean 4th generation i5 4570 is still fast to run all the latest application these days?

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Jun 9 2017, 11:22 AM) I did say it is fast UNLESS you run heavy stuff with it, so it depends on what you do with your PC (or what you use for), there are many application these days and it is impossible to cover all of them under same category, if you do a lot of heavy video rendering, 3D rendering etc then the i5 will be noticeably slower than Ryzen 5 1600 in terms of the time needed to complete an operation. Minimum RAM for Windows 7 or 10 is required minimum 8GB these days? 4GB RAM is like not enough to run Windows nowdays.

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Jun 9 2017, 07:18 PM) Official system requirements stated 2GB RAM for 64 bit OS, that's the minimum value recommended by Microsoft. Some users don't do intense stuff with their PC, only email, light browsing, videos & music etc, 4GB is enough for these super easy and light weight tasks. 8GB is a common value nowadays if you are a normal user (light to medium multitasking, gaming etc.), 16GB or more if you are a heavy user. My office rig only has 4GB of RAM, my usage pattern on this rig is light and only for email, light browsing and music, 4GB is enough for me, so until now I still haven't upgrade it to 8GB yet, so in conclusion, it depends on your usage pattern, if you aren't craving for more memory, then getting more memory will not speed up your PC, it is like you build 3 lanes road in a kampung but then the demand is not there yet (low traffic flow) and you expand the lane again to 6 lanes, isn't it a waste of resource and money? What processor is ur office pc and at home wat processor are you using?

Always thought having more memory is gonna make my pc fast. Well shall I wait till end of this year since Intel is coming out with much more powerful processor than Ryzen 5 and 7 or just upgrade to Ryzen 5. BTW I am just a normal user so stick with i5 4570 8GB RAM should be enough at the moment. Is ur i5 4460 desktop pc fast enough for gaming with 8GB RAM?
