Hi Sifus, I'm planning to upgrade my cpu to 7800x3d and would like your recommendation for motherboards.

Looking for the best value and if not much price difference for future proofing may also consider. Wifi is not important for me as I use LAN cable for internet so if there's a cheaper one would be great as well.

Currently looking at MSI B850 Gaming plus wifi. TQ in advance.
*
MSI B650 Gaming plus wifi (yes B650) is prolly the lowest I would go for X3D. I would have inc Asrock ones as their cheaper but you know...

Hmm...atm only using the KC3000 but i guess for future proofing would be great to have if not too expensive.
Hmm..yeah I checked online and B650 seems like no difference from B850 aside from the wifi 7 and may need to update bios? but worth to get B850 for convenience?
*
Gen5 SSD full potential not yet max out. Good to have an mobo with that gen slot but can still use Gen4 SSD. WD 8100 is a monster that is beginning to show how much more untap levels Gen5 can go.

B850 is very minimal diff but whether worth or not is up to you. Its your money after all. And yes need to bios flash but shops can do that if you ask or if comes bundled with that 9000 CPU.

I saw that. Its a crap AM5 mobo if your doing any sort of gaming or productivity work at all. I guess its ok up to Ryzen G APU or 7600

Ignore. BIOS update is a big question mark. Better off getting a 5600G + MSI A520M-A Pro board for that purpose. You also save money from cheaper processor & RAM.
Intel has fewer performance cores. The rest are small cores that has no chance against even Zen 4C.  yawn.gif Having more cores also doesn't scale linearly.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amdahl%27s_law
*
A520 is only limited to Gen3 PCIE so means if slot in any GPU or SSD in future will be limited to Gen3 speeds. China mobo should work as long as it supports the CPU from factory.

QUOTE(Skylinestar @ May 14 2025, 10:25 AM)
why crap if only use for internet surfing? plan to pair with 8500G cpu. will use for 10 years. currently still using intel Core i5 2nd gen laptop.
my only worry is longevity.
*
Read again, I said crap for any gaming or productivity use. Any new build PC would be overkill for internet surfing only. Why not 2nd hand office PC around 8th gen above? Can get for RM 6-700 and still valid for Win11. Or consider mini PCs?

Games will still predominately rely on CPU throughput efficiency rather than num of cores. Few yet to really make use of 4/6 Pcores hence why i5/R5 are still playable.

I've been checking CPU on AliExpress. I don't understand this situation:
seller A. sell processor B. processor B has prices X,Y,Z. all are tray units.
why multiple prices?
*
Why take the risk with tray CPU? Warranty is a big sus

anyone know where is the cheapest place to buy Thermalright fans? from what I've checked, Amazon seems cheaper than platform?
TIL China sellers are similar to Caseking  tongue.gif
*
Why Thermalrights? Apart from ball bearing ones they dont particularly standout on perf nor quality. For a little bit more, a solid budget performer is Scythe Kaze Flex

*
That was for the previous V1 version. Its a budget winner in most other test

And thats just for the previous V1 (max 1200 RPM, grey edge rubbers). The newer Kaze Flex 2 V2 (all black) goes up to 1800 RPM and is slightly improved

where to buy?

That time I wanted the RGB version so I got from ETEX (Enotex). I think the nonRGB is cheaper elsewhere.

Go for the higher RPM version as you can still downtune it to be quieter if needed.

no mention of v2. only KF1225FD18AR-P. not KFS1225FD15-P / KFS1225FD20-P.

*
Its the 1800 RPM version so it ought to be newer (older Kaze maxes at 1200 RPM).

If using Shoppee new user ID, can knock off RM 25.

Is 1st player trilobite T7-P a good case? Never heard of the brand before. I wanted to go for cooler master 600l v2 but no stock at my local store. I am budgeting pc case below rm200.
*
Its a super budget ATX case but sacrificing some design elements to fit those ARGB fans. Ie front only has 1 USB 3 and 1 USB2, no Type C, only 1 headphone/mic jack, weirdly has vent holes on left backplate, typically these have non reusable PCIE covers which can be dealbreaker. I like its quick release front panel and clip in filter panel.

Try not to get solid face panel cases as these are pisspoor airflow which causes higher internal temps. Above reco Montech Air 1000 is a decent case as well Tecware Nexus Air within your budget but these inc fans arent RGB.

Good day sifus, I am currently in Malaysia, but soon going to work in Singapore. I am still deciding whether to build the PC in Malaysia or Singapore(when I reach there).
I’d be grateful if you could provide a recommendation.

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
Monitor only.
- 27" QHD (2560 x 1440) Nano IPS Display
- IPS 1ms (GtG) Response Time and 165Hz Refresh Rate (O/C 180Hz)
- NVIDIA® G-SYNC® Compatible with AMD FreeSync™ Premium

[Personal preferences] As long as it is reliable, and suitable for long-term application.

Price wise I think hardware in SG is overall cheaper if you can buy from Amazon (& Newegg?) direct ship from USA. Ie iinm you can get Nvidia FE cards at MSRP. But then do factor in importation fees and taxes (do they have in SG?). Do your comparison with online here prices and see which is better.

Thanks a lot for the information, I will check on the Amazon and Newegg for the comparison. but do you mind recommend the specs I should looking for?

For SM2, target around 100+ FPS @1440P

user posted image

Depending where you buy, your RM 7k budget can go baseline or play with some higher specs item:

7800x3d (9800x3d if budget can fit)
CPU cooler PA120SE/ IDC Frozn A620
MSI B650M Gaming PLUS wifi (or B850M Gaming PLUS wifi)
2x 32GB DDR5 6000MHZ (CL36 or as low as budget can fit), Acer Pallas?
2TB Adata Legend 960 or S70 Blade (or SN850/X if can afford)
5070 FE or 9070XT MBA (5070TI if budget can fit)
Phanteks G400 or similar Lianli seems affordable when buy from Amazon/NE.
Any 750W Gold rated ATX3.1 PSU with native 12V 2x6 connector (forgot to include)

During Black Friday, the higher specs prices can drop a lot down to your budget. And with Amazon Prime iinm, its free shipping.

Was planning to build a PC but saw this guy selling his old prebuilt Acer on FB marketplace. Went to his house to check out the PC and stress tested it on Furmark for around 30 minutes and it seems to be running fine. It is a 3 years old PC.

Acer Nitro 50 N50-120-5600W11G
Ryzen 5 5600X
3060ti 8GB DDR6
32GB 3200 RAM
512GB NVME SSD

Asking price: RM 1450

It is a prebuilt though so the airflow ain't the best. If it gets too hot I will just transplant the parts into a new case with a new PSU and B550m Mobo. What do you guys think? Is it good value, average or bad value?
*
Do check if it uses off the shelf parts or any proprietary BS items which will cost a bomb to replace later. for prebuilds, warranty dont gets transferred to 2nd buyer afaik.

Its not bad for the price as used 3060TI goes for RM 1100 ady.

But actually what is your use case for the PC and whats your budget to build?

Thank you for the input. My budget was around 3000. Planning a build with i5-12400F/Ryzen 5 5600 with a 4060 class card. Upgrading from my old 1650 laptop.

I checked the pre-built and only the motherboard was proprietary but at least it has wifi and bluetooth built in. A B550M board would be around 400 in case the original motherboard fails so it's not too bad. Even the PSU is replaceable. I do have spare a spare PSU and a mATX case available in case I plan to transplant the whole thing into a new case.

Anyway I ended up buying it about an hour ago since it seems to still function really well. After reinstalling Windows and playing Marvel Rivals on it for 30 mins it seems to function well with the highest temps at around 78 degrees for both CPU and GPU. The jump from 1650 to 3060 TI is massive. For less than half of my original budget , I am pretty happy with the purchase.
*
Some prebuilds like Dell has the front IO built into the mobo so if you replace it with off the shelf you lose that connectivity, so just be aware if yours is the case.

Its good that it works for your use, no need to spend more money if used stuff is good enuff for you. Save money & save environment from a dumped PC.

If you can add more fans then its better.

hi all,

my monitor failed on me today (Alienware 25 - AW2518Hf). am thinking of a replacement for this of similar size.

24-25 inches, 240fps/hz. came across this and seems pretty close to what the previous one gives me..

https://rog.asus.com/my/monitors/23-to-24-5...x-xg258q-model/ - apparently msia hard to find this?

https://rog.asus.com/monitors/23-to-24-5-in...strix-xg259qns/ - what about this?

any other suggestions tho?

Hey guys. I'd like to ask for some advice from all the sifus here in the forum.

I'm currently running

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
RAM: 4 x 8GB DDR4
Mobo: Gigabyte B550M DS3h
GPU: Zotac GTX1660 Super

I'm using a 1080p monitor at 60hz. I'm not looking to increase the resolution or frequency.

I'd like to ask if there is a point in upgrading the GPU to say an Arc B580 or similar. For gaming, mainly. I'm wondering if there is a possibility to get 60fps in 1080 at max settings in games like Expedition 33.

I know that my mobo is not the best and there's no VRM cooling so going for an AM4 X3D CPU may not be an option.

What is your opinion? Should I upgrade with a budget of maybe 2k to 3k?
*
Whats your budget?

Imho your current system much too limited for minor upgrades. That mobo cannot tahan X3D CPUS. Better just to buy a much better GPU even if it will bottleneck by that system, about RTX5070/ RX9070, and 750W PSU (bronze C tier at least, ie MSI A750BN).

This GPU & PSU will outlast your current rig so that when time comes for full upgrade, you can port them over and save future money on GPU & PSU.
Case & any SSD storage also same. Then only need to buy CPU+MOBO+RAM
