Hmm, I doubt leather would cause static buildup. I'm more prone to guess that it's actually your shoe sole rubbing against the interior carpet that's causing this static buildup, or even your clothes (shirt and pants are of a synthetic/fabric). I put a PVC coil car mat to prevent this when refuelling..remember touch any metal to release static before pumping and never go in car before finish pumping to avoid static build up
Anyway, touching a finger against your car, or any metal parts to discharge static electricity is a good practise
