Let's see how close the AIP figures are:

RON95 - AIP Petrol
Last week MOPS95 average price from 23/9-29/9 = AUD 0.564 per litre.
Last week average MYR-AUD exchange rate from 25/9-29/9 is AUD1=MYR3.3441 BNM

Thus, calculated MOPS95 price in Malaysia converted to RM is 3.3441 x 0.564 = RM1.8860724
Malaysia Fuel Operator Margins for RON95 is RM0.3173

So final RON95 fuel price is RM1.8860724 + RM0.3173 = RM2.20
Quite close to the RM2.19 price announced yesterday.

Diesel - AIP Diesel
Last week GASOIL average price from 23/9-29/9 = AUD 0.569 per litre.
Last week average MYR-AUD exchange rate from 25/9-29/9 is AUD1=MYR3.3441 BNM

Thus, calculated GASOIL price in Malaysia converted to RM is 3.3441 x 0.569 = RM1.9027929
Malaysia Fuel Operator Margins for Diesel is RM0.2279

So final GASOIL fuel price is RM1.9027929 + RM0.2279 = RM2.13
Not close enough to the RM2.17 price announced yesterday.

Good info. The MOPS average price published on AIP is best refrence so far. Before this they had published the daily price. You should post the calculation on top of the MOPS futures price from CME for comparison.

Just for the diesel I suspect its beause of the 7% palm oil in our diesel here, will look around for info on this.

Keep up the good work here....

But the price should be on average, right? So increase/decrease in current price would only be taken into account much later kan?

Why we are using MOGAS? Anyone know?
*
Most probably the same reason why Australia & Singapore uses it.

"The petrol companies use Mean of Platts Singapore (“MOPS”) prices, not crude oil prices in their cost accounting and pricing decisions for retail petrol. Crude oil price is the price of unrefined oil while MOPS price is the price at which petrol companies purchase the refined wholesale petrol from the refineries. MOPS price tends to be higher than crude oil price as it includes the cost of refining the crude oil into wholesale petrol." - quoted from the www.ccs.gov.sg below

FYI - MOGAS is one of the product listed under MOPS.

isr25 could you put this up on the first page for future reference thanks mate!

the ultimate question is does the government really follow global pricing to do adjustment?
there's numerous times our price increased while global price decrease  unsure.gif

I've read these kind of comments soo many times but still I've yet see someone show proof of the MOPS price to back up their statement. At least that would help OP better OP's calculations

The answer is 90% of the time, yes.

Because there is another variable, foreign exchange
*
I've found out that Bank Negara Malaysia publishes various exchange rates for USD
http://www.bnm.gov.my/index.php?ch=statistic&pg=stats_exchangerates&lang=en&StartMth=2&StartYr=2018&EndMth=2&EndYr=2018&sess_time=0900&pricetype=Sell&unit=rm

Theres rates for the 0900 session, 1130 session, 1200 session, 1700 session.
Heck for all you know they might have one just for govt use also. hmm.gif

isr25 I think it would be beneficial for all to post the AIP report here when it comes out.
For ease of reference for newbies of this thread.

FYI - Comparison of price is on page 3 for those interested to read.

QUOTE(isr25 @ Mar 5 2018, 09:44 AM)
Looks like the AIP prices are the opposite of CME prices. Thus, on average, the fuel price is expected to go up by 2-4 sen for both Petrol and Diesel

There is a significant flaw in your assumption which is all petrol & diesel is subsidized.

In actual fact the petrol & diesel market is divided into the retail and commercial. Assuming that both of these market is subsidized is incorrect. As the weekly petrol price announcement only states retail price.

The biggest market for commercial diesel is in shipping at the ports. Company with huge fleets also have their dedicated diesel refueling facilities.

For petrol company with huge fleets and also petrol perks for staff is charged at a different rate since the volume is big which the company has a specific account with the oil company.

As for figures there is only market intelligence which you need to pay a hefty price to get them. So I don't have it.

QUOTE(isr25 @ Apr 19 2018, 11:46 AM)
AFAIK, the only diesel for commercial use is unsubsidized (power generation etc). Is there any RON95/97 for commercial use which is unsubsidized? In face, diesel for fishing vehicles & public transport is even more subsidized iinm.

In any case, do you have the breakdown for the figures where I can update the assumptions/formula?
