Hi Sifus
I've just submitted my documents for Persona Premium.
But lately in this thread I've seen some very negative comments. Can you enlighten me on the concerns? Should I cancel? Thanks for your time 😀
Good morning Blueflame99,
Mine is a standard MT variant hence I can't comment much about the CVT gearbox, the HU, the keyless entry/starting, and any other features available in Premium. Mine is just less than a month old and current mileage is merely 2,000 km. Just a brief sum up:
1.
Comfort: Decent enough, sound proofing isn't the best but fair enough until you gain speed up to 80 km/h and above. Turn on your radio and voila! Seat comfort is good for me, even the rear seats are comfortable as well, not too straight upright like sitting in a near 90 degree angle. NVH level is so-so as the stock tire (Silverstone Kruizer) is noisy AF. Slap in a set of nice rubber and you should get a much quieter cabin. Mine do not have the rattling noise (yet) but I don't give a damn as I crank up my HU volume whenever I drive.
2.
Engine performance: Engine is torquey with the MT gearbox. Acceleration is effortless as long as the RPM goes beyond 1,500 to the redline. And i love the engine note too, the low RPM rumble is nice and doesn't whine like a mosquito.

The engine, however, hunts while idling, and I could feel it from the cabin. Not sure if this only happens to my car. Another issue is the brief loss of power after upshifting to a higher gear (e.g. 1st -> 2nd, 2nd -> 3rd, etc.). This phenomenon happens in a fraction of a second and only I could feel it (not the passengers) because I know I'm already flooring the accelerator pedal (with the clutch pedal fully released). It's more noticeable when you're driving in a faster pace. As per one of the forum member here, it's NORMAL for all Persona VVT, but I doubt so...
3.
Gearbox: Mine is a MT so I guess I can't help much about the CVT. Gearbox is made by Getrag and engagement is snug fit. Gear ratios are beautifully matched with the engine and as long as you're at the right gear. 3,000 RPM at 5th gear is about 107 km/h on the speedometer. Hydraulic-operated clutch is easy to play with, not really tiring up your left leg after a long crawl in the highway. Heel-toe downshift is nice too if you're an MT user.
4.
Vehicle handling: Vehicle rides rather high and body roll is noticeable when negotiating bends. I came from Waja and the difference is quite obvious. Steering feedback is decent in urban city driving and small turning radius makes U-turning a simple task. Steering tends to sway very little to the sides when travelling at high speed (> 100 km/h), maybe it's just the characteristic of the electric power steering. Hit any speed above 140 km/h and you'll start to notice the vehicle swerving left/right, possibly due to high vehicle ride and soft suspension setting. Anyhow this car isn't designed for speed freak and corner king, so don't expect much in high speed cruising and cornering.
5.
Safety features: Dual front airbags for the Standard and Exec variants. ABS and ESP come as standard and they work brilliantly on my car (tested and verified). Hill Hold Assist is useful for MT when you're about to accelerate off an uphill. Fancy for a drag launch with MT? Remember to switch off the ESP first.
6.
Fuel consumption: Not very good IMO. I'm getting approx. 350 km from full tank until the low fuel warning blinks (8.3 liter/100 km as per on board calculation). I'm most of the time stuck in traffic jam, and I'm prone to have heavyfootitis (a sickness with heavier right foot) and occasionally do some drag launch, and that sums up my poor fuel consumption LOL!

7.
Conclusion: A very decent car for a sub RM 50k price tag. It takes you from point A to point B without much issue and yet provides you safety features that many cars do not have at this price tag. Boot space is generous with 510 liters and is good for family starter; standard safety features that assure you a safer ride; and a price tag that doesn't burn a big hole in your pocket. IMO Proton has made quite a handful of improvement in terms of fit-finish and body trims. Nonetheless there are still rooms for improvement and one could still pick up some negative bugs about the car (e.g. dashboard rattles, fuel consumption, non-adjustable rear headrest, popping up front bumper, etc.), but if you could bear with all that small little bugs, it is really a decent, fun car to own.
The above review is solely based on my personal POV.
