 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz connection, at different speed

Last weekend I went to Singapore.
Using my iPhone 6S
Connect to a 2.4Ghz SSID (DLink DIR-868L router)
Did a Speedtest and got this result.

Then connect to a 5Ghz SSID (on the same router)
Did a Speedtest and got this result.

How come I can get a faster speed on the 5Ghz connection?

2.4GHz: Wider range + Better penetration through walls + Slower speed

5Ghz: Smaller range + Worst penetration through walls + Faster speed

its a hardware limitation, not the internet speed limitations

me on 2.4GHz in a 30mbps unifi getting 7 mbps only, while on 5ghz get 28 mbps

5 ghz is a short range firing wireless network, while 2.4ghz is more extensive

I tried on iPhone 7. Same result as the iPhone 6S.
I tried on iPhone 5. Only managed to get below 100Mbps on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

Does it means that if I have a 300Mbps internet connection, I must connect to the router on 5Ghz wifi?
2.4Ghz wifi cannot go beyond 100Mbps?

to be more specific is hardware technology limitation laugh.gif

2.4ghz can reach so far as 300mbps but you aint going to get that full speed.

Lets factor in the bandwidth, the width of 2.4ghz wireless-n is 40mhz and while 5ghz width have 80mhz which double up the so call "highway" to allow more data to be transmitted. This effectively explain why there is so much different on 2.4ghz & 5ghz.

The fibre internet speed in singapore is hitting way over what 2.4ghz wireless can do.

In malaysia....only TIME fibre are doing that. Meanwhile if you are on unifi forget about it, majority unifi user are still stuck on below 50mbps laugh.gif

Any users from Time 300Mbps can give some feedback?

as mention you will not get 300mbps fully outta of 2.4ghz

is shared and not all wireless-N standard can give you that

Inteference from all other devices nearby on 2.4GHz. Use 5GHz and u will see significant improvement as long as there is line of sight or through thin walls.

Again, it doesn't have anything to do with how many user is at home, so stop repeating that

You need to check the maximum Wi-Fi speed of your devices
Most mobile phones & tablets is limited to 72Mb/s when on 2.4Ghz

Mobile phone with single stream wifi n 2.4Ghz you cant reach 100Mbps...tested with Galaxy S6, iphone 6 and iphone 7 plus on unifi 100Mbps(Router Archer C2600 ) and Time 300Mbps(Router RT-AC68U and Archer C2600). Both Unifi and Time only can get 80++Mbps sometime 90++Mbps on 2.4Ghz. But on AC 5Ghz easily to get 300Mbps.

It's all about hardware limitation, I am using TIME Fibre 500mbps & Asus RT-AC3200.

For 2.4GHz, my phone can get 100mbps (up and down) in average but my old laptop is only able to get max 60mbps (up and down), both tested just beside my router.

Looks like it is the limitation of the iPhone6S on 2.4Ghz wifi connection.
On the iphone 5, eventhough it can detect the 5Ghz SSID and can connect to it, it still has a speed of the 2.4Ghz wifi connection.

the 2.4ghz and 5ghz not the problem here, 5ghz support wireless N too
the 5ghz support higher bandwidth at shorter distance only, but at last u have to refer to the wifi N and AC
and what the picture show i also a theory speed only not real life benchmark usage speed
