The last time I took profit off Greater China was in May 28th, no new top up to it since then

As for Gold, i have only been adding position. No profit taking yet this year.

This rebalancing is to adjust for the recent correlation divergence that I could observe between Gold and other equities. Also greater china equity momentum has slowed down a little. My modelling suggests a cut of allocation to all range of equities to reduce risk. We'll have to see if its the right or wrong call.
*
New here, just wondering how do you read the momentum of the fund? Was it by the look at the NAV of the fund? hmm.gif

I can afford to do 1/3 coz my portfolio size is not big. Still 5 figures only. Once cross 6 figures, I will need to readjust the size. Bigger portfolio need to have a slightly different approach usually.
Yes. In fact I only use the NAV data. I like it simple.

It involves a certain risk management that uses the current market price, equity level in my account, and current market volatility.

Thanks for the info, added to my learning list as i read and explore more through this thread and fundsupermart website. flex.gif

🙁

I read this:

China’s days as world’s factory are over, iPhone maker says

*
This will affected all the unit trust fund related to it and the NAV will drop in this few weeks, correct? Is good time to invest?

Don't try to time market.
Most of the time will lose out.

Alright, patient to wait for long term is the answer right.

QUOTE(whirlwind @ Aug 14 2020, 08:02 AM)
If you dca, shouldn’t be a problem right?

Like me now I’m praying that the fund will climb up back or I risk by switching
*
I plan to do lump sum in small amount to test out first.

Unit trust is meant for medium to long term investment.
It's not meant to be treated as daily trading or money game investment.
*
Understood. nod.gif daily trading and money game has always been my bad luck so no touching it.

QUOTE(MUM @ Aug 14 2020, 08:14 AM)
if you are refering to that article, what does that article mention?
Iphone makers said will stop making phone in China in the next few weeks/months?
or what does it mention that will impact the "all the unit trust fund related to it and the NAV will drop in this few weeks"?

in the mean time, best is stick with the below advice
*
I could not read full content of the article as it open to member only. But based on the header and first few content, it sound like part of china market in production going to be split to other country. So may sound like bad news lead to drop in NAV just like the news of tencent and wechat on last week. Am i correct?

QUOTE(whirlwind @ Aug 14 2020, 08:49 AM)
Good luck! The best was 4 months ago according to most of the UT charts but I don’t think so it’s easy to predict a good time. For me, I predicted when covid is under control then the market will start to climb but I was wrong, It starts even earlier
*
Luck is not always on myself, so i just go with the flow. Yes, from what i see from the graph of most fund, from around month of May to date has been on uptrend and look like break NAV record (based on 10 years) to me. So is unsure whether good time to invest.

splitting up into more production bases is actually a good strategy that should be welcomed by investors / customers for it reduced "concentration risk" of a business
example, in early Feb during the early Wuhan virus lockdown crisis....alot of the world's manufacturing production segment were affected bcos they cannot get supplies from Wuhan.
also it had been made known that alot of companies had been shifting "some" production out of China in the last few years to avoid US tariff on their export.
*
Good for the company, good for unit trust good for us, but loss for now for china i guess.

*
Assume the question to me, yet to find out which fund related to the company yet. As my capital is small, i need to research which fund to allocate to it first as it is for long term. One of the fund that i am looking at now is the precious metal securities.

If top up a fund during Merdeka Sales, will be eligible for lesser sales % charge when sell it in any other day?

sorry, i am guess what you really wanted to ask...
do you mean if you buy during the merdeka promotion, will it be cheaper than when buy it during normal (non promotion) days?
if yes, then usually during promotion it will have lower % of sales charge imposed....
example, normal days 1.5% promotion is 0.8%
*
I understand the part on promotion period, get lower % sales charge.

Then it means when first brought a fund, it had already defined how many % sales charge are applied to the fund?

Like for my new account, i invest in the Principal Greater China Equity MYR fund, it says 1% sales charge. So when i sell it after few months/years, i get 1% sales charge, correct?

Check for redemption fee under Charges:

Previously, i have miss-understand on the 'sell charge' by thinking it is for sell/exit the fund and get charge. doh.gif Alright, i understood it now. The 'sell charge' is applied on the fund i first brought it (RM1000 - 1% = i get RM990 fund). When i sell/exit RM1100, i get RM1100. smile.gif

I’m new to UT. Around 2 months old only

Bought Precious Metal Securities early August and the price of gold and NAV went sliding down. Panicked and switch it to Ambond immediately. Lost few hundred there.

Anyway, it’s my mistake for investing in it in the first place when I’m not prepared with the volatility

How many % is the loss?

Not yet.
I believe it will drop further due to today's gloves counters performance.
*
I read some comment in the stock market discussion thread ( https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3854236 ) that glove counters going to rebound in the coming future. Also the owner or glove company buyback the shares which lead to some investor confident in the glove shares. So the glove counter of this fund should be a jump in future. hmm.gif
