does anyone noe any LY forumers do sell hamster cages at a lower price?

wat and where is the cheapest bedding and cage have u seen?can u ppl list down? planning to get one...hehe..

shld i jz get one or two hamsters? wan 2 give it as a present...thx

Added on May 28, 2007, 10:04 ambtw wat breed of hamster is the best and doesnt bite?
*
for furthure info about cage sell at lower price, plz check at the garage sale thread biggrin.gif

cheap cage usually the paint is not good...hamster chew2 later left the besi only..
better get tank (aquarium)...or if got much money get a plastic habitrail cage..all of these thing can be find at petshop..
tank is cheap at jalan pasar..

dont look for cheap bedding, look for the one that safe...must not use pine based bedding..here i quote for you from the 1st page

"* Hamsters need a layer of quality bedding in their tanks. You can always get the wood shaving variety but you would need to change the bedding often. Recommended brands would be Chipsi Classic, Chipsi Super, Delikate and Kaytee. Avoid using other brands for pine and cedar wood can cause breathing problems later in life due to the phenol oils produced by the wood. One can also use corncob bedding, wood pellets like Woody Pet or Careline wood cat litter or recycled paper bedding/litter like CareFresh or Breeder's Select/Celect.

for beginner, better get one hamster...if you want a hamster that can be hold/handle and not bite, plz get syrian or winter white..

hmm..Aquarium tank right...is it really good??? What about the air ventilation in it? ONly can flow from above right? NO direct ventilation ...is this alright for the hamsters?and for the owner(the smell of the tank-when cleaning up the tank)
Also if ur hamster is aggressive how are you supposed to take it out of the tank?At least using cage, you can take the cage out and the hamster can climb out.My hamster is very territorial in its cage but when i take them out from the cage, they become very tame.Just imagine tank...only can take them out from above...surely will get bitten.(for territorial hamsters sweat.gif)
*
about the air ventilation, and also light, hamster in nature live underground,in burrows..so they dont need much light..the air from top is enough..if want to add more air dont tutup your aquarium la..but make sure the hammy dont escape

actually there are some benefits of tank compare to cage
- easy to clean. the bedding will not tumpah on the floor. i keep hamster in one cage and five tank...but the five tank only need to be clean once a week..the cage?? everyday must sapu sapu...
- cage bars make hamster more bite than hamster that put in tank...
- alternative for climbing cage bar, put toys in tank to make sure they can climb too..
- my experience, keeping hammies in tank is more odourless than cage..

Hahaha... I got but my own ones.... haven't breed yet lah.
You just came back from hometown? They could be fighting over food or over territory.... really, if this goes on for so long already, just separate them lah. Hamsters do not feel lonely like humans do. They also got short memory so they can easily forget their tankmate.
*
hun..how can not breed yet??i'm waiting for ur peal ma hehehehe

jason,
i agree wih hun..
my ww also like that..
no angin no ribut...suddenly gaduh2 with tank mates...
my solution is always: saperation!! laugh.gif

It is not good to breed hamsters at young age... lifespan shorten. The normal lifespan is about 2 years but if you breed early, it cuts short to 1 year... lucky, can go 1.5 years.

Also, if breed early, it will cause the female to become smaller, stunted in growth and the babies will come out unhealthy.

This is why it is better to buy single sexed pairs and only breed once you have enough knowledge. Sometimes the bullying can become death. I had experienced it before... put 2 pearls together.... always make noise and are on top each other.... then suddenly 1 dies with part of the head eaten away.... this is why we strongly suggest, keep them single. They are happy as single.
*
wa...so ganas hun...eating part of head that its killed...its common habit or what?? rclxub.gif

As a matter of fact if you read some books, they'll clearly state that hamsters are happier living alone than with a 'friend'.
*
ermm...i think sometimes facts in books and internet articles may clashes..and may be this thing confusing some of us...some reading material said dwarf can be keep in group...thats why some of our frend still keeping in group(if they read laa tongue.gif )

base on experienced, me myself keeping my russian campbell in clan..i'm not saying all of them can do well in clan...but for now i had one clan of male rc, living in one tank..one female clan live in a cage..and the latest siblings(male clan and female clan-saperated)

i also feel that they will fight as long as there were no one dominant...this is my 2 sen opinion based on experinece la..becoz when each of my clan didnt fight each other after each has its own dominant hammy..

different with my ww..fighting occur more often, till at one time i must have many tank for ww..becouse some of them just cannot living with friend...luckily now only having one pair of ww in one tank..hehe..so less space..

The thing is.... you must be the judge. If they get along well, then ok lah, a clan is ok. But if they always bully each other and fight on and off.... even if no blood or wounds also, it is better to separate coz bullying is dangerous as well.

I've had hamsters for many years but of course, breeding only a few years but then with all the experience and reading, it is better to keep them single. Those cages sold at petshops, the sizes are all wrong. I only see the best are habitrail.... easier to clean than other cages. Tanks and storage boxes are the best so far coz easier to clean than cages and healthier.

Hamsters have short lives, so we must do what we can to give them a comfortable environment to live out the 2 years....
*
laugh.gif btw sifu is rite...she has more experience..i agree...its bergantung to the hamster...i also experienced some hammies just cannot live together...
my clan now all healthy and chubby..bcoz no bullied..bcoz bully caused less eating to yang dibuli... and each of my clan only have three hammies..no bullied and enough food for all..i also realize if we keep less hammy together..their size will be chubbier and bigger..no need to fight for food la..enough for all..
