hi all,

need to know what type of monitor supports 144hz with my cpu specs?

i7 - 4790
GTX970
16GB RAM

im currently usin dell23U (something) IPS
but i want to get a monitor which supports 144hz to fully utilize my gaming performance
basically, i dont understand whats the difference between TN panel and non TN panel.
read about it in google but still dont get it....
the MS response time also....dont really get it
does that mean getting a 4k HD monitor supports 144hz ?

the main reason: pure gaming monitor, i got the dell for tasking other things

my budget: less than rm2k
size: 23-27inch if possible

any recommendation?

Update:

So it comes down to these two

asus VG248QE = RM1200
BenQ XL2430T = RM1650

can your gpu even get close to 144fps in 4k?

dont know, havent tried before on a 4k monitor
but i capped my games on 120fps (like cs:go), but i have screen tearing
certain games only supports up to 60hz

What game you usually play?.

Basically TN is old tech but with the perks of having faster refresh rates (Hz). But the color and viewing angle is bad compare to IPS panel.

I would suggest Viewsonic XG2401 which around RM1299, but that monitor use Freesync. Since you have Nvidia GPU its better to get monitor with G-Sync.

CS:GO, Dota2, dishonored2, borderlands2, dark souls 3 (even got screen tearing at 60hz), left4dead etc...mostly steam games
hmmm what is freesync and g-sync? sweat.gif

What Gsync and Freesync do is simply adjust the refresh rate of your monitor to match the number of frames per second your computer is churning out. The only purpose of this is to eliminate screen tearing without negatively impacting performance.
also helps when games have large fluctuations in frame rates, makes them a lot less noticeable.

with your gpu and the games u play i dont thnk there would be any problem pulling 144hz.

if you want cheap 144hz how about AOC G2460PF. if you want a really good G-Sync monitor Acer Predator XB241H is always get good review for budget G-Sync monitor.
you can go research professional review and owner review of both said product so you get better judgement.

i think both of Monitor is less than RM2k

Acer is $399.99(RM1.7k++) on amazon
AOC is $209.99(RM900++) on amazon

not sure malaysia pricing, can check lowyat garage sales section.

so between g-sync and freesync which one be prolonged (as in lifespan)?
or it depends on my CPU system?

none, both of that features got nothing to do with lifespan.
also Freesync for you its out of question since you using Nvidia.

Freesync = AMD Card only
G-Sync = Nvidia Card only
*
oh i see
so no doubt i only can get g-sync that means
in terms of usage and lifetime of a gaming monitor, how long can it last before dead pixel or anything goes wrong with it?
btw what is the difference between 1MS and 5MS?

I'm using Benq XL2720Z and having screen tearing when I set it at 60hz. Once I set to 144hz, no more tearing. Benq XL2720Z has no G-Sync but newer model XL2730Z has it but I don't think you need G-Sync. I'm using GTX 970 as well.

*Edit*
Go for TN if you're into Competitive Player for fast respond rate.

Go for IPS if you plan to use it for Photoshop. IPS has better colours and viewing angle.

But 144hz is a must!

i have an IPS monitor, using it currently dell23U something
just need one monitor for pure gaming only which why i started this thread
my friend said not to get benq monitors cuz they have ghosting...
i dont understand what ghosting is, he told me is like a ghost in games..... bangwall.gif

I'm using BenQ XL2430T, 144hz reduces screen tearing dramatically.

Ghosting is something so old, it's a matter of response time from grey to grey.

Even my 25ms monitor doesn't show ghosting. I'm surprised people claim they can see ghosting on 4ms monitors. tongue.gif

is this ghosting?
if it is, then i don't see either with my current monitor
but my games sometimes got latency due to fps drops
like dota2, i experience suddenly fps drops when i either use a skill or move my camera angle to view the map

Yes you can but you won't benefit from it, it will perform just like a normal monitor without GSync/FreeSync (or any other adaptive sync technology).
*
so i can use a 144hz freesync monitor while my gpu is nvidia and still get 144hz?

with your specs, should be fine, just get the asus one. dont have to be fussy, you wont see much difference compare to what people are nitpicking about. you wouldnt notice or even bother about using gsync, so thats out of the picture.

i dont think theres much point in getting 144hz unless you're serious about gaming, its a luxury not a necessity. an ips monitor would be nice if you do watch movie from time to time.

edit: look at my spec

i3 6300
16gb
1060 6gb

i have no problem using 144hz

what resolution do you play csgo in?
*
csgo is 1920 x 1080. the reason why im deciding to purchase a 144hz bcuz it cud utilize more of my games graphics since my GPU is quite good.

i dont think you should try 1080 on csgo, maybe drop it lower to 1280x760 or something iirc. csgo is more of CPU intensive game, and im pretty sure your cpu is enough, but playing in 1080 doesnt really help that much in csgo

if you get 144hz and play on 1080 on csgo, your pc might struggle keeping around 100-120 fps especially on inferno map

dota 2 could probably be better, but then again.. using 144hz on dota 2 is kinda wasting
*
i see....ofc i will be playing other games as well, such as rise of tomb raider (bought it havent got a chance to play it yet), evil within, resident evil 7, bioshock infinite, tom clancy the division and quite alot of AAA games to be honest and all these have environmental effects which really does put 144hz to a good use.
