Hi All,

i'm staying in townhouse... subscribed to unifi 30M package... everything is fine in the ground floor, but the connection is so bad on first floor till the youtube using smart tv is not working, keep buffer buffer and loading...

i'm thinking to change the wireless router to TP link C7
http://www.tp-link.com.my/products/details...7.html#overview

any comment? is this compatible to unifi?

thanks!

Sorry for late reply.

This Acher C7 router got good review worldwide. But its wireless coverage might not be significantly better than the stock router provided by TM. Another thing we need to understand is, networking involves 2-way communication. In plain example, there's no point to have a wireless router that can transmit signal of let say 200 meter in range but our device itself only able to transmit data for a range of 100 meter. In this case, your device able to receive router's signal, but not the other way round. So wireless connection failed.

Using powerline adapters instead (preferably with wifi capability) might be a better alternative to solve your issue...

Does Archer C7 capable of handling 100Mbps? hmm.gif
*
TM now use Archer C5 as their stock router for Unifi. So if use Archer C7 instead, it is more than capable i believe.

Archer 5 and Dlink 850 which one more reliable?
*
Hard to say actually since that i only use Archer C5 as of now (no experience using the Dlink 850). Anyway, Archer C5 seems stable as of now..but in term of reliability, i reserve my comment (too early to comment..less than 2 month of usage)

been using 5ghz since i flash openwrt on the router. stable but coverage is much smaller than i expected. I can get 3 bars at most, while full bar on 2.4ghz.
*
That's understandable. The higher the frequency (5 GHz in this case), the shorter its range. If wifi range is our concern, 2.4GHz is the one to choose. Not to mention that 5 GHz signals do not penetrate wall as good as the 2.4 Ghz signals do wink.gif

Its 25th. Already tried checking my surprise. Still ask me to check back on 25th January 2017.

No surprise there TM.
*
Actually no surprise from the beginning. When i open their so-called 'surprise' email, i just got the speed upgrade, which is not a surprise at all because everybody knew it & will get it (announced in Budget 2017 what). I thought they will surprise me with extra goodies other than the speed upgrade doh.gif

yeah u're welcome. previous firmware provided by TM have some bugs like after reboot router/BTU, the IPV6 is not connected so i need to reboot for 2nd time.
*
Previous firmware also got bugs at Guest Network Bandwidth Control (cannot control download bandwidth for guests). So my guests got access to all my 30Mbps internet bandwidth sweat.gif Fortunately, i able to control it using other method instead & now my guests can have internet access of 10Mbps max thumbsup.gif

Yet to flash to current firmware. Not sure whether current firmware will solve this issue.

i planned to create before but never mind just let them use since they're not staying here for too long.
*
Yeahh..actually i'm not too stingy about this initially. But sometime when my relatives come for 1 or 2 days, they took too much of the bandwidth until my smart tv sangkut2 when watching youtube or doing other things. That's when i decided to throttle down their (guests) bandwidth

(using 10mbps package) but when i done speedtest on phone can reach constantly 9.5mbps. Anybody face this problem before?

For N wifi, look at mAP Lite, mAP, hAP Lite, hAP, RB951Ui-2HnD, RB951G-2HnD or RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN. Routing speed all about the same.
*
I'm using RB951G-2HnD as a hotspot router (connected to the stock Archer C5 TM UniFi router). Very stable i must say thumbup.gif

I am currently using streamyx atm. However, I am planning to terminate it and change to unifi. The installer will be coming to my hse on this Sat.

Just wanna ask, will unifi use the same port as per streamyx? My hse is an old house and they have 1 port atm.

Appreciate if you can help. thanks!
*
Most probably they will lay another dedicated fiber line into your house. The copper line internet port (Streamyx) cannot be used...
