Its a great idea to some extend. Cheap way to get some of your workout in and all but one factor to consider is, will using those big & bulky water bottles/pails compromise on your form like when you're doing deadlifts for example. You can try out strongman style workouts and improvise it instead of the conventional ones you see done with traditional barbell etc. coz in my opinion 20kg per side gets pretty easy real fast when you're doing compound movements like squat. But then again, if you want to be a serious lifter, you'll have to use barbells & dumbells etc to achieve your goals.
