Ok guys, I believe lots of Wira owners do encounter problems such as their meter panels are not working (Tacho/Speedo/Water/Fuel). Any idea where to repair it? Even the trip meter is not working. Do I need to replace it with a new unit or there's a place in which we can repair it? sad.gif PROTON sucks. This kind of equipment shouldn't fail. Even the Nissan 130Y (Year 1990) in my house don't encounter such problem. doh.gif

The cheapest speedometer I ever saw was around RM150, a mitsubishi meter panel, that need to do some wiring modification in order to make the RPM functioning. Add another RM100 for this, total RM250. If not get any Proton meter panels, just plug and play.

if u go for those cheap imitation tachometer parts, most likely will fail.
from my own experience, it started to rattled after a year or so.
sometimes will not move at all until the car go over a bump or pothole to shake it up properly then only will start to move.

1.5/1.6 = RM200

1.8 Putra/GTi = RM300

Some extra RM50, some lesser by RM50, depending on mileage.

try check ur signal cable first before u replace ur tacho/speedo meter.... its most probably the cable that giving fault... replacing the cable is much cheaper than replacing the meter itself....

My advise to you, if you are buying from someone through some forum. Meet up with the person at some accessories shop/workshop that does meter panel installation.

On the spot to know if it's working or not, then only you pay. Make a deal with the person. To be on the safe side.

From my personal experience, 1.6 meter is hard to get and is expensive. About RM 200 if you're lucky.

Putra 1.8 meter is even more expensive, I've seen ppl trying to sell at RM 700, but I think RM 300 you might get it.

Anyway, those meters are expensive and quite rare. 1.3 meter is easier to get and cheaper. Also Lancer/Evo meter are more abundance and cheaper too, about RM 150. But you need to change the wiring a bit. They are also more durable and seldom spoil (from what ppl tell me lah).

For those who are having speedometer problems, I recently tried repairing my wira 1.6 auto speedometer.

The speedometer and odometer wasn't working.

Prices as of 20/1/11

Aircond panel = RM 115
Speedometer (speedometer + odometer) = RM 120
Speedometer sensor (black colour 2 leg attached on back of the panel) = RM 25
Speedometer cable (cable speedometer to gearbox) = RM 25
Autocruise needle = RM 12
Meter Gear (black colour gear connected to autocruise needle inside gearbox) = RM 75

I have changed all these but my speedometer is still not working. At least the speedometer rattles and milleage meter counts now but i dont think accurate. While running there is a constant "tak tak" sound. Maybe install wrongly.

Heard it could be the autocruise sensor. Not experienced to change that.
Plan to go to a mechanic to find out the real problem.

Just replaced my faulty speedo/odometer for Wira. Costed me RM185 (parts from sparepart shop) + RM 30 for labor. Surveyed few places in Sitiawan/Manjung and that was the best price for the part. Few sparepart shop didn't carry this part since they mentioned item doesn't come with any warranty. Perhaps cheaper in KL area. If you have an old car beware of the dashboard rear brackets breaking. It's a simple DIY if your familiar with simple mechanical parts replacement. Attached Image
