Maxis try to mitigate this by auto subscribing to data roaming package the moment you connect to data when overseas.

For people who wants to be contacted while they're abroad, while still have some data usage to Waze, email, WhatsApp.

If you're more interested to YouTube and have heavy data usage, then getting a local SIM is preferable, especially nice when you have a dual SIM phone.
