I think he has a case. His credit limit is way lower. What this means is if he owed more than that, service should be denied. His ignorance is one thing, but unscrupulous practices should not be rewarded either.

the guy being an idiot is one thing but the telco allowing it to rake up to such obscene amount is another thing.
telco should have cut him off once credit limit exceeded imho

in countries where consumer rights are stronger, cases like these are fought in court and the idiot still needs to pay for his mistake but not to such an obscene back breaking amount and the telcos are required to cut off service once past the limit

Why can't this world unify one telco so one world only has one telco, one data plan, no worries on data and call roaming

its fishy that he didn't post the actual itemised bill

btw, credit limit is for the telco use purpose to limit bad debts, not for customer convenience

Really weird.
But the guy have so much ego, so umobile should get the 42k from him.

i hope you know that middle east is part of asia

Conventional geography wise maybe. Business unit wise ME is typically grouped together with Europe under EMEA separate from Asia/APAC so very possible that fee structure etc are different

you need to activate data roaming, not just data.

with u-mobile need to even pay extra deposit to allow data usage overseas.
this guy knows what he was doing.

Maxis try to mitigate this by auto subscribing to data roaming package the moment you connect to data when overseas.

I checked U mobile website, for UAE it's RM49/MB. His RM42k bill would be about 800MB usage, you can easily use that much in 2-3 days.

I went around Dubai during my 18hours transit last month. Off international roaming for my phone setting and relying on maps.me and free wifi at airport for getting around.
