Depends on what version your Mac's using. Yosemite n ElCap just plug n play. On Sierra you have to do some mod in the display policy plist.

Hi I have an iMac (mid 2011) with the same technical features. My graphics card (Radeon HD 6970M 2gb) has stopped working, I would like to upgrade to the GTX 980M but before I want to be sure you work well, what do you mean by the "mod in the display policy plist"? It's difficult?

On the net I saw that my iMac model works well with the GTX 880m but I'm interested in more than 980m.

thank you!

Did you flash the card or simply plug and play?
Did you lose bootscreen or the brightness control?
How did you solve overheating and noisy fan?

Thanks!

- I did not flash the card, just edit the Apple's displayconfig.plist file. the MXM was OEM for Dell Alienware laptops
- Yes I did lose the initial boot screen and no brightness control
- the GTX980M's power consumption are very low, no overheating nor noisy fan problem

How to change Apple's displayconfig.plist settings for the display of the GTX780M video card in iMac 2011 i7?

Hey feez98 nice Job dude.

Im about to do the same on my iMac 27" Mid 2011.
How and what Modifications you did exactly in displayconfig.plist?

I see u use macOS Sierra, will it work with High Sierra?
Can you do a simple HowTo, maybe with Video or Pictures?
I would be very proud of you. =)

I think someone on another forum posted how to make it work in Sierra but never said anything about High Sierra. I wonder if NVIDIA drivers would work.

Maybe the same thing can be done in High Sierra. Obviously Mojave wouldn't be an option because Apple.

I like how people post this stuff they do but never reveal how it was actually done. That doesn't help anyone.
